Financial Models in Production (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Othmane Kettani, Adil Reghai Financial Models in Production (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Othmane Kettani, Adil Reghai
R1,634 Discovery Miles 16 340 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides a hands-on guide to how financial models are actually implemented and used in practice, on a daily basis, for pricing and risk-management purposes. It shows how to put these models into use in production while minimizing the cost of implementation and maximizing robustness and control. Addressing some of the most important and cutting-edge issues, it describes how to build the necessary models in order to risk manage all the costs involved in options fabrication within the world of equity derivatives and hybrids. This is achieved by extending classical models and improving them in order to account for complex features. The book is primarily aimed at market practitioners (traders, risk managers, risk control, top managers), as well as Masters students in Quantitative/Mathematical Finance. It will also be useful for instructors hoping to enrich their courses with practical examples. The prerequisites are basic stochastic calculus and a general knowledge of financial markets and financial derivatives.

Asset Sales - Their Role in Restructuring and Financing Firms (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Claudia Curi, Maurizio Murgia Asset Sales - Their Role in Restructuring and Financing Firms (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Claudia Curi, Maurizio Murgia
R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In a new world characterized by more frequent and rich flows of information, with more efficient and plenty of available external capital, how will the - simultaneous - investment and divestment decisions be affected? This book thoroughly covers the main features and relevance of asset sales as an integral component of many companies' growth strategies in the current and continually evolving corporate finance eco-system. After an introductory section on the relevance of asset sales in corporations (both non-financial and financial), it discusses the corporate asset market and the mechanisms of asset sale transactions. The focus then turns to the theory of finance in asset sales (the efficiency and financing theory) and the extensive empirical literature now available. In light of recent and rapid technological and digital advances, a concluding section presents new perspectives on analyzing asset sales transactions. Chiefly intended as a primer for PhD students and academics, the book offers roadmaps for the empirical research landscape and suggests future research directions.

Understanding Corporate Risk - A Study of Risk Measurement, Disclosure and Governance (Paperback, 1st ed. 2019): M. V.... Understanding Corporate Risk - A Study of Risk Measurement, Disclosure and Governance (Paperback, 1st ed. 2019)
M. V. Shivaani, P.K. Jain, Surendra. S Yadav
R3,328 Discovery Miles 33 280 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book proposes three normative frameworks pertaining to risk-measurement, disclosure and governance using expert opinion and data from the top 429 non-financial companies (of the NIFTY 500 index) over a 10-year period. The book offers a novel contribution to the global literature on disclosure quality by presenting a composite measure of the quality as well as quantity of risk disclosures. Focusing on the quality of risk disclosures and risk governance structures, and using sophisticated methodology to tackle the issue of endogeneity, the book explores the important yet uncharted confluence of accounting information, risk and corporate governance. It addresses the interplay between three facets of risk, and is corroborated by practitioners' perspectives as well as case studies. It is an excellent resource for practitioners, professionals and policy-makers, in addition to researchers working on the topic.

Statistical Analysis of Operational Risk Data (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Giovanni De Luca, Danilo Carita, Francesco Martinelli Statistical Analysis of Operational Risk Data (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Giovanni De Luca, Danilo Carita, Francesco Martinelli
R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This concise book for practitioners presents the statistical analysis of operational risk, which is considered the most relevant source of bank risk, after market and credit risk. The book shows that a careful statistical analysis can improve the results of the popular loss distribution approach. The authors identify the risk classes by applying a pooling rule based on statistical tests of goodness-of-fit, use the theory of the mixture of distributions to analyze the loss severities, and apply copula functions for risk class aggregation. Lastly, they assess operational risk data in order to estimate the so-called capital-at-risk that represents the minimum capital requirement that a bank has to hold. The book is primarily intended for quantitative analysts and risk managers, but also appeals to graduate students and researchers interested in bank risks.

The Theory of Credit Contracts - With a Focus on Group Lending (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Christian Prem The Theory of Credit Contracts - With a Focus on Group Lending (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Christian Prem
R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In this book Christian Prem features new innovations on several levels. On a conceptual level he presents a complete restructuring and modularisation of the field of lending theory. On a formal level he bestows great care on providing precise definitions and promotes notational standardisation. On a technical level the development of an algorithm to solve repayment games automatically is thoroughly documented. Eventually, new theoretic results on the performance of various credit schemes are established, the quality of existing lending schemes is scrutinised and new more efficient mechanisms are presented. The content therefore inspires theorists as well as it provides well-grounded advice to practitioners in the lending industry. Altogether this thesis is a major step towards improving the quality and applicability of lending theory.

Ruling or Serving Society? - The Case for Reforming Financial Services (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed.... Ruling or Serving Society? - The Case for Reforming Financial Services (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018)
Shahid Ahmed
R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book argues that the 2007/08 financial crisis revealed fundamental flaws in how the financial sector had evolved over the previous three decades. While access to financial services has improved, the total stock of debt in the global economy has risen to more than twice the size of global GDP. Financial services now play a far bigger role in all economies, developed and developing, than in the 1960s. This development has produced few, if any, worthwhile benefits. The book concludes that the largely deregulated financial sector needs to be radically reformed. The first of these reforms would be to establish the pre-eminence of the public interest in how financial services operate. The second would involve breaking up financial institutions that have become much too big. Third, the phenomenon of financialization needs to be regulated and controlled. Finally, all countries need to work- both nationally and internationally- towards a more democratized, more robust, and less laissez faire system of socially progressive financial sector regulation to make it subservient to the needs of society rather than the other way round. This Palgrave Pivot will be of interest to economists, financiers and banking specialists, interested in an informed debate on the causes and consequences of the 2007/2008 financial crisis.

Final Basel III Modelling - Implementation, Impact and Implications (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed.... Final Basel III Modelling - Implementation, Impact and Implications (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018)
Ioannis Akkizidis, Lampros Kalyvas
R1,649 Discovery Miles 16 490 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides a concise and practical guidance on the implementation analysis of the new revised standards of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) on the supervision of the international banking system. Based on publicly available data on default rates and realised loss-given-default rates, it provides an analysis of credit and market risk, assessing the extent to which the new framework on risk-based and leverage ratio requirements affects the modelling of banking risks. Moreover, it provides a detailed analysis of the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB), which changes the philosophy for the risk valuation and capital requirements of the market risk, and of the latest developments on the credit valuation adjustments (CVA) framework. It also examines the impact of the final calibration of operational risk parameters on the level of capital requirements. It provides an overview of the modelling properties that govern the application of the internal models for credit and market risk, and provides evidence on the overall impact on banks' cost of funding due to the implementation of Basel reforms as shaped in December 2017. Finally, the book provides practical examples and hands-on applications for assessing the new BCBS framework.

Jerry Buckland, Chris Robinson, Brenda Spotton-Visano
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book analyzes the highly contentious payday lending industry, presenting valuable new data collected during Canada's recent regulatory reviews and demonstrating its relevance to payday lending conversations taking place worldwide. The authors treat the industry with a balanced hand by establishing its importance as an example of financialization and acknowledging the complex impact of payday lending services on low-income and credit-constrained clients. Up-to-date data from an interdisciplinary mix of financial, econometric, legal, behavioral economic, and socioeconomic sources-all in the context of an established Canadian industry-provide both proponents and opponents of payday lending with valuable evidence for their discussions of how much regulation is required to minimize harmful consequences. These insights from Canada expand a US-centric conversation and provide a key resource for the growing list of countries in which the industry is present, from the UK and Poland to South Africa and Australia.

D. Gareth Thomas
R1,747 Discovery Miles 17 470 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The book explores the endogenous creators of inside money, the commercial banks, and their key role in igniting the 2007-8 monetary crisis and the aftermath of the Great Recession. This is an area of study overlooked by the traditional approach in the form of neo-classical analysis, a body of theory based on a barter system of exchange. Money has evolved from a construct of barter to become a medium of exchange based on fiat money and loan creation by the banking system, underpinned by legal tender, and therefore, a creature of law. It is not a phenomenon exogenously controlled by the monetary authorities and simply assumed to be a "veil" over the real economy, which just determines the absolute price level. This monograph, in the eyes of the student, represents critical thinking and the realization of a more precise formulation of the endogenous money supply with various features systematically added in an attempt to derive a fully dynamic model of the monetary system, which will be straightforward to visualize and contrast with the benchmark approach.

The Digital Journey of Banking and Insurance, Volume III - Data Storage, Data Processing and Data Analysis (Hardcover, 1st ed.... The Digital Journey of Banking and Insurance, Volume III - Data Storage, Data Processing and Data Analysis (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021)
Volker Liermann, Claus Stegmann
R1,988 Discovery Miles 19 880 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

This book, the third one of three volumes, focuses on data and the actions around data, like storage and processing. The angle shifts over the volumes from a business-driven approach in "Disruption and DNA" to a strong technical focus in "Data Storage, Processing and Analysis", leaving "Digitalization and Machine Learning Applications" with the business and technical aspects in-between. In the last volume of the series, "Data Storage, Processing and Analysis", the shifts in the way we deal with data are addressed.

Credit Correlation - Theory and Practice (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017): Youssef Elouerkhaoui Credit Correlation - Theory and Practice (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017)
Youssef Elouerkhaoui
R1,458 Discovery Miles 14 580 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides an advanced guide to correlation modelling for credit portfolios, providing both theoretical underpinnings and practical implementation guidance. The book picks up where pre-crisis credit books left off, offering guidance for quants on the latest tools and techniques for credit portfolio modelling in the presence of CVA (Credit Value Adjustments). Written at an advanced level, it assumes that readers are familiar with the fundamentals of credit modelling covered, for example, in the market leading books by Schonbucher (2003) and O'Kane (2008). Coverage will include the latest default correlation approaches; correlation modelling in the 'Marshall-Olkin' contagion framework, in the context of CVA; numerical implementation; and pricing, calibration and risk challenges. The explosive growth of credit derivatives markets in the early-to-mid 000's was bought to a close by the 2007 financial crisis, where these instruments were held largely to blame for the economic downturn. However, in the wake of increased regulation across all financial instruments and the challenge of buying and selling bonds in large amounts, credit derivatives have once again been found to be the answer and the market has grown significantly. Written by a practitioner for practitioners, this book will also interest researchers in mathematical finance who want to understand how things happen and work 'on the floor'. Building the reader's knowledge from the ground up, and with numerous real life examples used throughout, this book will prove a popular reference for anyone with a mathematical mind interested credit markets.

Financial Literacy Education - Edu-Regulating our Saving and Spending Habits (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st... Financial Literacy Education - Edu-Regulating our Saving and Spending Habits (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017)
Asta Zokaityte
R4,671 Discovery Miles 46 710 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book explores the issue of consumer financial education, responding to increased interest in, and calls to improve peoples' financial literacy skills and abilities to understand and manage their money. New conceptual frameworks introduced in the book offer academic audiences an innovative way of thinking about the project on financial literacy education. Using the concepts of 'edu-regulation' and 'financial knowledge democratisation' to analyse the financial education project in the UK, the book exposes serious, and often ignored, limitations to using information and education as tools for consumer protection. It challenges the mainstream representation of financial literacy education as a viable solution to consumer financial exclusion and poverty. Instead, it argues that the project on financial literacy education fails to acknowledge important dependences between consumer financial behaviour and the socio-economic, political, and cultural context within which consumers live. Finally, it reveals how these international and national calls for ever greater financial education oversimplify and underestimate the complexity of consumer financial decision-making in our modern times.

Shadow Banking and the Rise of Capitalism in China (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017): Andrew Collier Shadow Banking and the Rise of Capitalism in China (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017)
Andrew Collier
R2,427 Discovery Miles 24 270 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book is about the growth of shadow banking in China and the rise of China's free markets. Shadow Banking refers to capital that is distributed outside the formal banking system, including everything from Mom and Pop lending shops to online credit to giant state owned banks called Trusts. They have grown from a fraction of the economy ten years ago to nearly half of all China's annual Rmb 25 trillion ($4.1 trillion) in lending in the economy today. Shadow Banks are a new aspect of capitalism in China - barely regulated, highly risky, yet tolerated by Beijing. They have been permitted to flourish because many companies cannot get access to formal bank loans. It is the Wild West of banking in China. If we define capitalism as economic activity controlled by the private sector, then Shadow Banking is still in a hybrid stage, a halfway house between the state and the private economic. But it is precisely this divide that makes Shadow Banking an important to the rise of capitalism. How Beijing handles this large free market will say a lot about how the country's economy will grow - will free markets be granted greater leeway?

The Management of Mutual Funds (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017): G.V. Satya Sekhar The Management of Mutual Funds (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017)
G.V. Satya Sekhar
R3,033 Discovery Miles 30 330 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides insight into the multi-dimensional process of coordinating and supervising mutual funds. This book focuses on the management of mutual funds within financial markets, with an emphasis on how corporate governance and benchmarking influence asset and portfolio management. Chapters explore four important aspects of this process in particular detail: corporate governance, benchmarking, asset management and portfolio management. The author shows that the mutual fund industry provides wider access to payment systems and to a savings safety-net that operates similarly to deposit insurance. Furthermore, he demonstrates that the Indian government's focus is on establishing the right of every person to have access to affordable basic financial services offered by banks and non-banks.

In this volume, authors present empirical research on liquidity risk discussed in the context of Basel III and its implications. Chapters also investigate topics such as bank efficiency and new bank business models from a business diversification perspective, the effects on financial exclusion and how liquidity mismatches are related with the bank business model. This book will be of value to those with an interest in how Basel III has had a tangible impact upon banking processes, particularly with regard to maintaining liquidity, and the latest research in financial business models.

Financial Literacy and the Limits of Financial Decision-Making (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016):... Financial Literacy and the Limits of Financial Decision-Making (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016)
Tina Harrison
R4,013 Discovery Miles 40 130 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book presents selected papers on the factors that serve to influence an individual's capacity in financial decision-making. Initial chapters provide an overview of the cognitive factors affecting financial decisions and suggest a link between limited cognitive capacity and the need for financial education. The book then expands on these cognitive limitations to explore the tendency for overconfidence in decision-making and the interplay between rational and irrational factors. Later contributions show how credit card companies benefit from limitations in consumer financial literacy, how gender and cognition intersect to play an important role in financial decision-making, and how to improve financial capacity through financial literacy and education campaigns, including those addressing developed marketplaces. This comprehensive collection of papers will be of value to all readers who seek to better understand the multi-factorial and complex nature of personal financial management in today's economic climate.

This book reports on the results of an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary workshop on provenance that brought together researchers and practitioners from different areas such as archival science, law, information science, computing, forensics and visual analytics that work at the frontiers of new knowledge on provenance. Each of these fields understands the meaning and purpose of representing provenance in subtly different ways. The aim of this book is to create cross-disciplinary bridges of understanding with a view to arriving at a deeper and clearer perspective on the different facets of provenance and how traditional definitions and applications may be enriched and expanded via an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary synthesis. This volume brings together all of these developments, setting out an encompassing vision of provenance to establish a robust framework for expanded provenance theory, standards and technologies that can be used to build trust in financial and other types of information.

A Socially Responsible Islamic Finance - Character and the Common Good (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed.... A Socially Responsible Islamic Finance - Character and the Common Good (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2017)
Umar F. Moghul
R909 Discovery Miles 9 090 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book explores how, through spirituality and the development of character, Islamic financial institutions and Muslim communities can integrate their businesses with contemporary social responsibility initiatives to produce positive social and environmental impact. From the looming environmental crisis to the divide between mainstream and extremist interpretations of Islam, the book addresses significant questions facing Muslim communities - and humanity - and demonstrates why Islam should sit 'at the table' with other faiths and ethical traditions discussing humanity's great obstacles. Unlike existing literature, this work explores the intersections between classical Islamic ethics and spirituality, contemporary Islamic finance and economic markets, and select sustainability and impact initiatives (such as the Equator Principles and UN Principles of Responsible Investment) designed to make the worlds of business and finance responsible for the environments in which they operate and the communities that support them. Drawing on his years of experience in Islamic banking, Moghul addresses these applications in light of real-world practices and dilemmas, demonstrating how Islamic organizations and Muslim communities should embrace the broad range of stakeholders countenanced by the Shari'ah in conversations that affect them. By situating his exploration of Islamic finance in the light of the much larger critical issues of balance, justice, and moderation in Islamic praxis, Moghul creates an interdisciplinary book that will appeal to academics and researchers in economics, finance, business, government and policy, and law.
