Reveals the historical roots of the symbology of the Tarot in the Mithraic tradition of the Persian Magi and the Hermetic tradition The Tarot is a mythic map of the world and of consciousness. It offers a meta-language of signs and symbols that communicate their meaning precisely. Yet the true origins of the Tarot remain shrouded in mystery. These oracular cards have long been thought to have come from Egypt or from the "Gypsies," but as Stephen E. Flowers reveals, their original roots lie in the Mithraic tradition of the Persian Magi. In this book, Flowers explores the historical roots and mythology of the symbolic images that became known as the Tarot. Drawing on theories first pioneered by the Swedish scholar Sigurd Agrell (1881-1937), he reveals the genesis of the Tarot's symbolism in the great Hermetic tradition at the same time the Magical Papyri were being written in Greco-Roman Egypt. He explains how the sequencing of the Major Arcana is related to the images used in Mithraic initiation, elements of which were then integrated into existing Roman and Egyptian traditions. Exploring the Magian teachings on the Stoeicheia, an alphabet that acted as a map for understanding the order of the cosmos, he demonstrates how this alphabet of magical symbols was the template for the Tarot. The author also shows how the 22 Major Arcana cards were related to the 22 letters of the Roman alphabet used for oracular purposes in ancient times. Looking in-depth at the principles of Mithraism, the author explains how the Roman form of Mithraism, a guiding factor in the early shaping of the Tarot, was itself a synthesis of Iranian Magianism, Greek stoicism, Babylonian astrology, and Greco-Egyptian Hermeticism. Exploring the cards themselves, Flowers then looks at the original meanings of the Major Arcana using Mithraic symbolism and its offshoots. He also explains the truth behind many of the myths surrounding the Tarot, including their deep-level connections with Egypt, the Romani people, the Semitic tradition, and runes. By restoring the original mysteria to the icons of the Tarot and learning their true origins, we can better understand the insight these powerful cards impart in divination.

The paranormal derives from us on a daily basis. Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Joyce, E.M. Forster, Ingmar Bergman, and Chesterton understood this and made the paranormal essential to their depiction of humanity. However mainstream studies of western literature, culture and psychology deny the importance of psychic phenomena in our lives. Freud himself recognized telepathy as a daily occurrence to be explored in clinical work and established principles for doing so but most of his followers have failed to walk in his footsteps. Nor do psychoanalysts acknowledge the parapsychological history of psychoanalysis including the findings of the Mesmerists, Jung and Ferenczi or more contemporary psychoanalysts such as Eisenbud . Anthropologists are unaware that shamans developed sleight-of-hand techniques to facilitate psi (that is psychic) phenomena nor do they appreciate the manner in which tribal cultures integrated psychics into their societies. And Western legal theory avoids psi as a causal agent, never addressing its artificial construction of reality. Literary academicians attribute the psychic discoveries of great masters to "poetic license" rather than to accurate, understanding of our parapsychological capacities. The author-a practicing senior training psychoanalyst, a parapsychologist, and a lawyer familiar with Navajo culture-enjoins us to recognize psi phenomena such as telepathy, precognition and apparitions in our lives and to integrate our understanding of them into psychoanalytic theory and clinical work, literary studies, and anthropology. He investigates psi as it expresses itself in dreams, unconscious dynamics, psychic photography, and precognition and provides instances from his clinical practice.
The culture of two continents blends together in this one-of-a-kind tarot deck-creating a fresh perspective on what it means to be African-American. Publisher Review: I have to begin by saying that this may be the most inappropriately named Tarot deck ever. It might be better named the African Tribal Tarot or African Wisdom Tarot or African Culture Tarot. The only cards that have anything to do with the powerful influence African Americans have had on U.S. culture are on some of the pip cards, and this appears in monotone in the background as if the images were plugged in as an afterthought. I get the impression that someone submitted the deck to a publisher and it was refused with the advice that an African Myth and lore Tarot was not wanted, but an African American deck would sell. The artist appears to have plugged in some images in the already existent art. But I'd rather focus on what this deck is rather than the questionable naming, and it's terrific. As with most people in the U.S. educated in the public education system [read more]

Remote viewing is the mental ability to perceive and describe places, persons, or events at distant locations in the past, present, and future. This book describes the science and theory of the remote-viewing phenomenon. The reality of the remote-viewing phenomenon is not in dispute among a large body of respected researchers both inside and outside of academia who have published an extensive collection of high-quality investigations over the past few decades. But profound mysteries remain. This volume breaks new ground by resolving some of remote-viewings greatest enigmas. In these pages, new research and new theories explain why remote viewing works, and why it is scientifically possible. These investigations utilize remote-viewing methods that are derivative of those used for decades in well-documented U.S. government funded psi research sponsored by the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) and the Defense Intelligence Agency (D.I.A.). Filled with descriptions and analyses of highly original experiments, here is an investigation into the fascinating characteristics of time and physical reality using remote viewing as a tool of exploration, offering evidence that the past, present, and future truly exist simultaneously. The idea of differing future and past time lines is not just science fiction.
