This work is a complete mathematical guide to lottery games, covering all of the problems related to probability, combinatorics, and all parameters describing the lottery matrices, as well as the various playing systems. The mathematics sections describe the mathematical model of the lottery, which is in fact the essence of the lotto game. The applications of this model provide players with all the mathematical data regarding the parameters attached to the gaming events and personal playing systems. By applying these data, one can find all the winning probabilities for the play with one line (for each category in part or cumulatively), and how these probabilities change with playing the various types of systems containing several lines, depending on their structure. Also, each playing system has a formula attached that provides the number of possible multiple prizes in various circumstances. Other mathematical parameters of the playing systems and the correlations between them are also presented. The generality of the mathematical model and of the obtained formulas allows their application for any existent lottery (including variations like Keno) and any playing system. Each formula is followed by numerical results covering the most frequent lottery matrices worldwide and by multiple examples predominantly belonging to the 6/49 lottery. The listing of the numerical results in dozens of well-organized tables, along with instructions and examples of using them, makes possible the direct usage of this guide by players without a mathematical background. The author also discusses from a mathematical point of view the strategies of choosing involved in the lotto game. The book does not offer so-called winning strategies (proving that the only strategy is that of choosing), but helps players to better organize their own playing systems and to confront their own convictions (so many times based on false perceptions) with the incontestable reality offered by the direct applications of the mathematical model of the lotto game. As a must-have handbook for any lottery player, this book offers essential information about the game itself and can provide the basis for gaming decisions of any kind.
Why has gambling become so accepted in the U.S. when other historical vices, like smoking and drinking, continue to evoke morality-based opposition? That simple but intriguing question guides this path-breaking volume, the first interdisciplinary academic study of gambling. Led by the renowned Alan Wolfe and with essays by experts at the country's premiere centers in public policy, clinical addiction, law, gaming, psychology, sociology, moral philosophy, theology, and the arts, "Gambling: Mapping the American Moral Landscape" is a tour de force of the booming cultural and moral phenomenon that has become woven into the fabric of American life. Both an attempt to understand and an effort to predict its future consequences, the book will prove evocative and critical reading for American civic and church leaders, activists, historians and government officials.
Why do "you" lose at poker? Before you answer that question, think about this. There is no magic key that unlocks the door to poker. You might be able to pinpoint a leak or two in your game, but you may be surprised to find that there are many more lurking under the surface. This book shows you the sixteen most common errors in poker, and how to avoid them. You will learn the keys to finding the leaks in your game and plugging them for good. Stepping away from the table and watching others play incorrectly is the best path to understanding your own mistakes. You?ll learn why these errors are so bad, and why they cost you money over and over. Recognizing these errors in your own game can be painful, but the rewards of revealing them are well worth it. If you?re ready to admit that you?d like to lose less and win more, then you need this book!
The intent of Winning Blue-Collar Hold'em is not to put you at the final table at the WSOP or WPT. Instead, the intention of the author is to improve the play of the average low-limit/low buy-in Texas Hold'em player. Televised tournament final tables or high-stakes games distort the way average players approach the game. On TV you see only 10% of the action. The successful bluff or an improbable two out all-in is exciting, and thus will make the program, while you rarely see the player making the solid play, except when they lose to the two-outer. The other aspect players viewing televised poker fail to understand is that the style of play seen at the final table is not the same style of play that it takes to make the final table. This book takes you beyond the "What" of poker and provides you with the "How" and "Why" you need to become a winning low-stakes player. The use of poker aphorisms (pokerisms) throughout the book separates it from all of the other books on the market.

People have been gambling, in one form or another, for as long as history itself. Why? Money, entertainment, escape and a desire to win are all traditional explanations. Arguably, however, these are secondary considerations to a higher order purpose: a craving for control. Gambling offers a means of gaining authority over the unknown, granting us a sense of control over uncertainty. Almost always that sense is illusory - gambling, including betting and investing, is essentially random - yet for many it is nonetheless profoundly rewarding. This book attempts to explore the reasons why. Along the way, it examines: The science of probability and uncertainty Why gambling is often condemned The difference between expectation and utility The irrationality of human beings Evolutionary perspectives on gambling Luck and skill Market efficiency and the wisdom of crowds Why winners take all Cheating Why the process matters more than the outcome

Is this a great country or what? You can bet on the turn of the card or a roll of the dice, but also on the NFL, the NCAA, and which Olsen twin marries first. We bet $80 billion a year, the amount growing wildly as more and more people gain access to this huge American wheel of fortune. No longer quarantined in Las Vegas, gambling has become as local and convenient as our neighborhood cineplex. If there's not a casino around the corner, there's one on your laptop computer. In "Jackpot Nation," Richard Hoffer takes us on a headlong tour, alternately horrifying and hilarious, across our landscape of luck. Whether he's trying to win a side of bacon in a Minnesota bar, hustling a paper sack filled with $100,000 in cash across Las Vegas parking lots, poring over expansion plans with a tribal chief in California, or visiting the New York prison cell of a retired bus salesman with a poor understanding of three-game parlays, Hoffer explores with wit and heart our national inclination--a cultural predisposition, even--to take a chance.

A riveting inside look at the lucrative world of professional high-stakes sports betting by a journalist who lived a secret life as a key operative in the world's most successful sports gambling ring. When journalist Michael Konik landed an interview with Rick "Big Daddy" Matthews, the largest bet he'd placed on a sporting event was $200. Konik, an expert blackjack and poker player, was no stranger to Vegas. But Matthews was in a different league: the man was rumored to be the world's smartest sports bettor, the mastermind behind "the Brain Trust," a shadowy group of gamblers known for their expertise in beating the Vegas line. Konik had heard the word on the street -- that Matthews was a snake, a conniver who would do anything to gain an edge. But he was also brilliant, cunning, and charming. And when he asked Konik if he'd like to "make a little money" during the football season, the writer found himself seduced . . . So began Michael Konik's wild ride as an operative of the elite Brain Trust. In "The Smart Money," Konik takes readers behind the veil of secrecy shrouding the most successful sports betting operation in America, bypassing the myths and the rumors, going all the way to its innermost sanctum. He reveals how they -- and he -- got rich by beating the Vegas lines and, ultimately, the multimillion-dollar offshore betting circuit. He details the excesses and the betrayals, the horse-trading and the paranoia, that are the perks and perils of a lifestyle in which staking inordinate sums of money on the outcome of a single event -- sometimes as much as $1 million on a football game -- is a normal part of doing business.

What makes this book different than any other blackjack book is
that it was written for beginner and novice blackjack players.
Unlike most gambling books, where the author tries to prove how
much he knows by using complicated math and confusing terms to make
his point, Blackjack - Made Simple will not intimidate or overwhelm
new players. If you are new to blackjack, or just want to improve
your understanding of the game in general, this book was written
for you.
This is the most comprehensive book yet written on the subject of sports arbitrage. It is written by a professional gambler and trader with over 30 years of experience in this field. The author has also produced and directed TV documentaries for the BBC about gambling. It provides the theory and practice of this potentially riskless investment and with many examples shows how it is possible to generate a substantial income even from a small starting bank. Many of the opportunities outlined have never been published before and it delves into the mysteries of 'synthetic arbitrage' and 'each-way arbitrage' amongst many other techniques. If you want to take a look into the exciting world of riskless sports investment, whether you're a beginner or professional, then this book is for you. You're guaranteed to learn something new.
