Jakobus skryf sy brief aan Christene in ’n era van konflik. Rondom hulle in die samelewing is daar rusies en konflik; tussen hulle as gemeentelede is daar stryd en onmin; en binne-in hulself is daar teenstrydige begeertes, onsekerheid, en twyfel oor wat hulle te doen staan.
