Everything you need to know about building your own hydroponic garden system Complete instruction with detailed pictures on how to build 4 different types of hydroponic systems. If you are new to hydroponics, we recommend starting with the small ebb and flow system. It is easy to build and works well both indoors or outdoors. Once you have the feel of adjusting the flood cycle, controlling the ph level you may the feel prepared for a larger MPT Tray System, NFT System or a Top Feeding System. The plans in the DIY Hydroponics Systems Builders Guide will provide you with all the information needed to build your own systems. In most cases, once you obtain the tools and materials necessary you simply follow the detailed pictures to assemble the systems. Most of the required materials can be purchased at your local home builder supply store such as Home Depot or Lowe's. You can also purchase parts and supplies online through hydroponics and garden suppliers for which we have provided a list. When using this manual, it is not necessary to follow each step and measurements precisely. Use these instructions as a guide. Be creative and flexible, adjust the plans to create your own custom system. For example, you may find a container that you believe would make a good reservoir or growing tray, but the size is not exactly the same as in the plans. Simply adjust the PVC pipes used to hold the tray to fit your container. Once you understand the basic principles, you should be able to modify and create many variations of the systems in this guide. This is another "Professor Grow Guide," part of a series of books dedicated to helping people grow successfully. Growing Sativa is a step-by-step guide aimed at Medical Marijuana patients and caregivers. It covers all the basics so a beginning grower can set up and grow their medicine safely and cost effectively. The authors go into detail on how to set up a good clean growing area, practice preventative maintenance, and detect nutrient deficiencies. They give you instructions to help keep your indoor grow safe, inexpensive and under the radar. There are defined schedules for lighting, watering and fertilizing the plants, to help people who don't want to go through trial-and-error. And Professor Grow tells you how to save money by building your own dehumidifier, odor neutralizer, and more. They even tell you how to time your harvest if you don't know the flowering period of your Sativa strain. The glossary of terms is very extensive and provides the new grower with definitions of the many terms that are bandied about when talking about growing.
Ever wondered why supermarket potatoes are so bland and boring? In the Andes, where potatoes originate, there are thousands of varieties with bright colours, beautiful markings, unusual shapes and variations of flavour and cooking quality. In the modern world, industrialised monoculture has reduced all this diversity down to a handful of near identical varieties. However, it's incredibly easy to grow potatoes from seed, and every seed is full of unexplored diversity. Best known for her Daughter of the Soil blog, Rebsie Fairholm gives clear and practical instructions for how to make seeds from potato berries, how to cross different varieties, how to choose which ones to experiment with, and how to keep your newly created varieties growing into the future. She gives examples from her own experiences with all kinds of potatoes, from ordinary garden varieties to historic Scottish heirlooms and rare Andean landraces, and explores the different colour possibilities, from orange flesh to purple flesh. Our ancestors created their own vegetable varieties in their gardens and took it for granted as a completely normal thing to do; and then the commercial age came along and changed our habits, and so it became something of a lost art. This unique book is a small step towards changing that.
Medical marijuana patients in the 14 states (at the time of this writing) that currently allow medical marijuana use now have an eBook guide to getting by with just a few plants. "How to Grow Medical Marijuana: An in-Depth Quick Grow Guide: with over 155 full-color photos/illustrations" is a very different "how-to-grow marijuana" book. Most of the instructions, currently available in book or DVD form assume the buyer wishes to grow a large and illegal amount of marijuana. This book based on Curran's DVD shows patients how to get by with the few plants that state laws allow marijuana patients. Previously, any medical marijuana patient who wanted to get by with a few plants had to do some very serious mental arithmetic. In addition, those would be growers had to choose between a variety of methods, soil, soil-less or hydroponics which could make the task if not somewhat intimidating, at least so choice heavy that there is too much room for error. Learn How to Grow Medical Marijuana: An in-Depth Quick Grow Guide: with over 155 full-color photos/illustrations, addresses, one very specific method of growing that anyone can master. David Curran, author of The Complete Ginseng Grower's Manual, and an agricultural writer for many years, became a medical marijuana user in 2010 after four years of increasing pain from chronic kidney stones. Says Curran, "I would sit on my couch and take codeine all day and if I barely moved I could get by without too much pain. The pain was so bad I would heat clay or rice heating pads, and put them on my side. I would get them so hot they left permanent scars, but at least the heat relieved some of the pain. Then a friend suggested medical marijuana. Before long the kidney stone pain was gone. I could walk around and do things again. Medical marijuana gave me my life back." One of the things Curran was able to do was create a video on how to focus on growing just enough medical marijuana for one patient's needs. This book is based on the video. Instead of covering every single method of growing, Curran picked one. According to Curran (an agricultural writer with many years of experience), the soil-less method is the easiest for anyone to master. This book chooses soil-less with a specific soil mixture, which has the advantages of hydroponics without the risks. (if you make a mistake with hydroponics all your plants may die) And presents an almost foolproof method of growing that almost anyone can master, using both CFLs and LED lights and sunlight when possible. The book covers everything from mixing the soil-less mix to how to create two small (2 x 2 x 6) grow sheds to provide a person's medical needs with only 6 plants. There is a myth out there that only sunlight or expensive (high powered-energy consuming) sodium lamps can grow quality medicine. According to Curran it is true plants grown with LED light will not grow as "tall" as with Sodium lights (Would you really want to try and grow 16 foot plants in your apartment?), but the quality of the medicine will be as potent as the plant can provide using any other method. Curran who suffered from the intense pain of kidney stones, can attest to the method providing quality medicine from experience. The book is intended only for medical marijuana patients in the states which allow it, or their agents and by purchasing this book you indicate that you are a medical licensed marijuana patient or the agent thereof.

Palms that grow in Canada? Bananas that overwinter in Michigan? How about southern crape myrtles that flower in Birmingham, England, instead of Birmingham, Alabama? Although the voice of authority -- and nursery labels -- might say, "You can't grow those plants here," author Dave Francko has a different message for gardeners: "Plants can't read the information on their tags." Laced with humorous anecdotes and based on years of first-hand observations and research, this book provides real-world information to help adventurous gardeners grow plants they never before dreamed possible. Nobody who reads this book will ever look at a plant label the same way again.
