A practical illustrated guide to making scale model tug boats,
offering information and guidance in line with the very latest
developments in tug technology and design, and modern advances in
model building. It covers scratch building, kits and mixing the
two. The first six chapters are devoted to tugs in general,
arranged by the duties for which each type of tug is designed.
Subsequent chapters cover the details of scale modelling. This book
is an enlargement and substantial revision of the tug material
which appeared in the author's previous book Scale Model Tugs &
Trawlers (Nexus Special Interests, 1999). Illustrated with original
photographs and plans, it has been compiled from a wealth of
practical experience and material gathered by experienced
professional ship modeller Tom Gorman.
The 'ShipCraft' series provides in-depth information about building
and modifying model kits of famous warship types. Lavishly
illustrated, each book takes the modeller through a brief history
of the subject class, using scale plans to highlight differences
between sisterships and changes in their appearance over their
careers, then moves to an extensive photographic survey of either a
high-quality model or a surviving example of the ship. Hints on
building the model, and on modifying and improving the basic kit,
are followed by a section on paint schemes and camouflage,
featuring numerous colour profiles and highly-detailed line
drawings. The strengths and weaknesses of available kits of the
ships are reviewed, and the book concludes with a section on
research references - books, monographs, large-scale plans and
relevant websites. The subject of this volume is the Fletcher
class, often considered the most successful of all American
destroyers. Built to the first design that was freed from treaty
restrictions, they came into service near the beginning of the
Pacific War and fought with distinction through all the most
ferocious of the campaigns against Japan. They were constructed in
large numbers, with a number of variations, and their popularity is
reflected by the wide range of available kits.
In the last few years the first person view phenomenon has taken
the RC world by storm. It has brought an entirely new field to the
hobby with new thrills and challenges. Despite this, FPV remains a
hobby that requires a steep learning curve, significant research, a
decent investment and a lot of trial and error. This book is a
beginner's guide to FPV piloting. It intends to bring the reader
from zero knowledge of the subject to a position where they can
safely conduct FPV flights. It covers the broad range of necessary
topics such as vehicle selection, control link, video link,
component placement, ground station design, interference
troubleshooting, and tips for successful flights. It provides
photographs of commonly used equipment and schematics of typical
setups - including a detailed case study on the author's own
configurations. The must-have guide for any hobbyist new to the
exciting world of FPV.
Christopher D. King has created beautiful and detailed designs
drawn from nature, from under water scenes, to forest canopies,
elephants and crocodiles, to fantasy creatures. The pages echo the
simple lines and intricate details to be found in plants and
animals around the world for you to get lost in as you colour. With
hidden animals throughout the book for eagle eyed colourers to
unearth and bring to life, and a range of difficulty levels there's
something for everyone to discover. Ranging from delicate and
detailed designs, to simple images and patterns, and leaving lots
of room for colouring outside the lines, this book provides a
beautiful experience to dip into and out of when your brain, or
hands, need to relax. Christopher created this book for people
whose minds need a little peace every now and then.
Simple, easy-to-follow instructions make it possible for everyone
to make replicas of modern fighter aircraft and exciting fantasy
planes. Clear, concise illustrations make Thay Yang's new book of
aerodynamic paper airplanes easy to use. An award-winning
illustrator and master folder, Thay won the senior aesthetics award
in the Great International Paper Airplane Contest, sponsored by the
Seattle Museum of Flight.
This book provides all the information any ship modeller interested
in powering a model boat using live steam will need. It offers both
the basic theory covering the steam power plant and fully detailed
drawings for the construction of simple and advanced steam engines,
boilers and ancillary equipment. There has been a huge growth in
interest in live steam-powered model boats in recent years but
modellers have endured a dearth of practical construction drawings
for suitable steam plants. Here, the author covers many types of
engine from simple oscillating cylinder types to piston and poppet
valve engines and the application of radio control to the
management of the boiler and engine. The projects (which all
include detailed scale plans) include simple single cylinder
oscillating engines, multiple cylinder oscillating engines, single
and multiple cylindered slide valve engines, piston and poppet
valve engines, boiler construction and heat sources, control units,
reversing systems, radio control valves, and the mounting of engine
and boiler units into model boats.
