When does gambling step over the line from entertainment to addiction? As we have previously discussed, gambling has moved from a sin and a vice to a past time and form of recreation. How does a family know when the entertainment has moved from a hobby to a compulsion or addiction? Estimates of how many people classify themselves as social gamblers that really qualify for a diagnosis of gambling addiction are from 2%-5%. Millions of Americans suffer from pathological gambling, although more men than women, at a ratio of 4:1. Men tend to enter the world of gambling as teenagers, but women begin gambling as adults. Women escalate their gambling addiction faster than men, however. Men gravitate toward personal betting games like table games, cards, blackjack, craps, and sports betting. Women are more likely to choose bingo, slots or keno games that are impersonal and passive. This book will explore history and trend of the gambling addiction.

Every weekend throughout the fall, McCarran airport expels thousands of people on to the Las Vegas Strip. Many of these visitors come to Las Vegas to bet on football, hoping to profit from the obsession that overtakes their weekends from September to February. Many will return to McCarran a few days later, a little poorer but a little wiser. However another group, reveling in winnings, boards that departing plane with a belief they know more than those large casinos that dot the Strip; convinced they could leave behind their day to day life back in the town where they live, move to Las Vegas and make a living gambling on the sports they love. So, what would happen if someone actually did that? Swimming with the Sharps is a first-person account of an amateur trying to make a living via football gambling. Swimming with the Sharps follows David McIntire as he spends the 2012 football season in Las Vegas, chronicling what he learns and whether he wins or loses gambling on games every week. The book has two components. In part, it looks at the various components that make up sports gambling - such as developing a handicapping system, identifying when to bet or determining the size of a bet - and how professionals approach it compared to how McIntire handles it. McIntire talks with professional bettors, gambling journalists and bookmakers to understand what they have learned in their years in town while providing full transparency into his unique approach that straddles the worlds of amateur and professional bettors. Interspersed with this look at gambling fundamentals are the experiences of a football fan gambling each week in America's playground: days in sportsbooks surrounded by every character imaginable; insight into the lives of bookmakers who run these vast money-making operations; the joys of winning money; the pain of lost money and lost games for his favorite teams. There is no 20/20 hindsight on bets. McIntire writes about the games he bets on each week, gives

"The book comes in two major sections. First you'll read a series of hand examples. These examples are designed to show you the difference between how a typical no-limit hold'em player thinks and how a professional-level player thinks. Each of these hand examples represents a small improvement you can make in your play. The second section turns the lessons from the first section into missions you can do on your own. These missions are the equivalent of recipes in a book on nutrition or exercises in a workout book. Doing the missions-doing them as often and using as much your brain on them as possible-are what will make you a better poker player. Do the missions, and you'll see results. Ignore the missions, and you likely won't." from the Foreword by Ed Miller -Author of Playing the Player, How To Read Hands At No-Limit Hold'em, Small Stakes Hold'em

Hammer is a way to wager on a golf match. The game has evolved through generations in several different directions. This manuscript will cover multiple ways to play Hammer but certainly not all. References will be made throughout this writing to "our game" which simply means the game I prefer and the reasons why. I have been asked many times if I could put together a list of the rules to "our game" as it has become very popular. I often get calls from players at other clubs asking for a rule interpretation. Hammer becomes a game within a game. At the time of this writing, I am a 12.5 Index golfer but I am a scratch at Hammer.

Ten years ago 2003 to be exact I realize why players lose in Cash 3, Play 4, Fantasy Five, Mega Money, Mega Million, and Powerball. I always say if you know why you know how. Because I am a handicapper of parimutual (horses and greyhound). I knew my odds, and it was impossible for me to bet specifically on Powerball 175,000,000 to one (1). So I never won because under no circumstances I will play $2.00 I felt bad that everybody was losing so I decided to write a book about why you lose. Little did I know that is along the way, I will figure out how to win. Never cross my mind that was possible and it is, this book is the proof. Powerball is 2 lotto, lotto 1 of the Powerball is made of 59 numbers and the odds are 5,163,632.65 to hit 5 Lotto. 2 is composed of 35 numbers with mean you must hit 5 off the lotto, 1 and 1 of lotto 2 which is the Powerball when you mix 5 with 1 the Powerball 1 out of 35 the odds become 175,223,510 to 1 to win.
