Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886) was one of the most important British illustrators. He transformed the world of decorated children's books in the Victorian era. In 1877, he was asked by Edmund Evans, the colour printer and talented engraver, to illustrate two children's books. These books were an immediate success and he went on to produce two books every Christmas until he died. Caldecott chose all the stories and rhymes he illustrated and occasionally wrote and added to the stories himself. His delightful style and humour can still be enjoyed by young and old alike. This story, 'An Elegy On The Death Of A Mad Dog', was originally published in 1879. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality, colour editions, using the original text and artwork so these works can delight another generation of children.
The National Chess Syllabus; featuring The Bandana Martial Art Exam System; is a fun & funky way of learning how to play chess The books author is 2009 England u16 Chess Coach Fide Master Charles Storey a 4 X National Chess Champion & winner of more than 60 open tournaments in England. A Professional chess instructor to children for over 15 years the Author has defeated over 30 Grandmasters in officially rated games. The book is well structured and is set up as 108 simple lesson plans with the school teacher in mind. What makes this book particularly unique is how it weaves the learning into a Traditional Martial Art Syllabus from White-Yellow-Orange-Green-Blue-Purple-Brown-Black Belt. Each Belt (Bandana) course content is well thought out to enable a teacher, or the private reading student, to complete each Belt within 5 Hours followed by a 1 Hour Test available at www.CharlieChess.com. With the net result the kids are highly motivated to develop their chess skills and the teacher leaves all the production of the Bandanas to our Head Office, the teacher has nothing else to do but apply the simple lesson plans and can quickly see each student's ability guaged by what colour Bandana each student is wearing. Any person acquiring the Black Bandana also attains the Teaching Certificate on completion of a C.R.B Police check. This Stllabus is recognised in many British Schools and is part of a chess cafe network.
