Mountaineering in the Swiss Alps presents a selection of classic
routes in the main Swiss climbing areas that have forged
Switzerland's reputation as a mountaineering paradise. Featured are
over thirty climbs, ranging from relatively easy normal routes to
more challenging itineraries. All are within the capabilities of
most mountaineers and provide an excellent introduction to the wide
variety of climbing that Switzerland has to offer. Every route,
whether it is a pure rock climb, a mixed ridge, a big north face or
a long traverse, was chosen for the beauty of the surroundings and
the quality of the climbing. Some are on world famous peaks that
every mountaineer aspires to climb, such as the Matterhorn (Mont
Cervin), the Breithorn and the Monch; others are on lesser-known
summits and will delight those who like getting away from the
beaten track. Written by mountaineer and author Stephane Maire,
each route features technical notes, a route description and topo,
and photos illustrating the climb's unique character.
This beautifully illustrated book showcases the Hindu and Jain
temples of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka
built prior to the invasion of peninsular India by the Delhi
sultans at the end of the 13th century. Unlike temples in many
other parts of India, those of the Deccan are well preserved, with
their wealth of figural and decorative carvings miraculously
intact. They demonstrate the development of Indian sacred
architecture and art over a span of more than 600 years. Focusing
on some 50 historical sites, the Temples of Deccan India begins
with artificially excavated "cave" shrines dedicated to various
Hindu deities, before proceeding on to examine free-standing Hindu
and Jain monuments sponsored by successive rulers of the Deccan.
Attention is paid to the beautiful sculptures found on temple
basements, walls, brackets and ceilings. Carved in crisp relief,
and sometimes even in three dimensions, these carvings are among
the greatest glories of Indian stone art. Among the featured
highlights are the cave temple on the island of Elephanta, with its
stupendous representation of three-headed Sadashiva; the colossal,
monolithic Kailasa temple at Ellora, a technical feat unsurpassed
in the entire history of Indian architecture; the magnificent
columned pavilion at Hanamkonda, now currently being reconstructed;
and the temple at Belur, with its exquisitely carved female figural
brackets. Specially commissioned plans of temple layouts accompany
300+ photographs. and clarify the succession of dynasties that
governed the Deccan during the centuries covered here. Maps locate
the temple sites, while passages of text illuminate the succession
of dynasties that governed the Deccan from the 7th to 13th
centuries. Educational, accessible and beautifully illustrated,
this book will be of interest to anyone fascinated by Indian
architecture.

The map of Giona - Vardousia 1: 25.000 is not the new version of
the map of Giona - Oiti - Vardousia but a completely new map that
proposes for the first time exploration and adventure routes.
Because more and more people are seeking adventure on the spurs and
the peaks of Mts Vardousia and Giona. Vardousia has a face for all
tastes, from the unvisited northern massif, to the splendid
crossing of the southern ridge and the technical alpine style
ascents to Plaka-Pyramida and Korakas crest. On Mount Giona, almost
everything moves around the imposing peak Pyramida and the endless
cliffs that stretch down to the south. Along with the demanding
routes Karagiannis and Bekos, the map offers many alternative
trails, from the long Reka ravine to short hikes to Arsali cave
church and the cave of Myer.
Western Crete has some remarkable landscapes such as the shore of
Gramvousa and Elafonisos, the numerous gorges of the southern side,
including Samaria gorge and many more. Indeed it is the most
attractive area for hikers as it includes the most engaging trails
either on the mountains or along the south coast. The course of the
E4 trail is accurately recorded on the map
The Underground is the backbone of the city of London, a part of
our identity. It's a network of shared experiences and visual
memories, and most Londoners and visitors to the city will at some
point have an interaction with the London Underground tube and
train network. The Tube Mapper project deliberately captures
moments of subconscious recognition and overlooked interests,
showcasing images that can be seen near or at many of London's
Underground, Overground and DLR stations. Photographer Luke
Agbaimoni gave up city-scape night photography after the birth of
his first child, but creating the Tube Mapper project allowed him
to continue being creative, fitting photography around his new
lifestyle and adding stations on his daily commute. His memorable
photographs consider such themes as symmetry, reflections, tunnels
and escalators, as well as simply pointing out and appreciating the
way the light falls on a platform in an evening sunset. This book
reveals the London every commuter knows in a unique, vibrant and
arresting style.
