'Hilarious' Guardian
'Had me laughing out loud from the very first page' Emily-Jane Clark, author of The Beasts of Knobbly Bottom
From the bestselling author of the Big Bright Feelings picture book series
Squirrel and Duck might seem strange housemates but they are drawn together by their secret - they are the only two talking animals in the world. When bulldozers arrive to redevelop the abandoned theme park they call home, they flee with nothing but Mr Spikes, Duck's beloved 'pet' cactus. Overhearing a conversation between two nincompoop art thieves puts them on the trail of untold riches (according to Squirrel) or a great deed to help the nation (as far as Duck's concerned). Only some surprisingly unhelpful woodland creatures and a temporary lack of transport stand in their way! Young readers will love this zanily brilliant story, full of unlikely scenarios and laugh-out-loud moments.
As jy iemand baie, baie liefhet, wil jy graag sê presies hoe jy voel.
"A beautiful, gentle, rhyming exploration of grief and mourning." -
Joe Coelho, Waterstones Children's Laureate The Hare-Shaped Hole is
a beautiful, touching, and poignant picture book which gently
explores themes of grief and loss. Hertle and Bertle were always a
pair, though one was a turtle and one was a hare. They were utterly
buddies, and best friends forever and whenever you looked, you
would find them together... until quite unexpectedly... the end
came. When Hertle disappears for good, Bertle can only see a
Hertle-shaped hole where his friend should be. He pleads with it,
get angry with it, but the hole still won't bring his Hertle back.
It seems like hope is lost... until Gerda the kindly bear finds
him. She explains that he must fill the hole with his memories of
Hertle. And slowly... Bertle begins to feel a little bit better.
Powerful and moving text from children's author and poet John
Dougherty is paired perfectly with warm illustrations from the
wonderfully talented Thomas Docherty in a thoughtful and sensitive
approach to this difficult topic. This moving picture book can be
used as part of a gentle conversation about death and grief with
children.
The team who brought grins to young readers with "The Boston
Balloonies" and "I Met a Moose in Maine" have created a third
charmer about a family of codfish and their friends. According to
Shankman's rhyming narrative: The Cods of Cape Cod / Love their
summer vacation, / And though they could go / Anywhere in the
nation, / They keep coming back / To their favorite location, /
'Cause they know that Cape Cod's / A vacation sensation! The Cods
of Cape Cod / Have a house on the beach, / And it's just the right
size, / With a fish tank for each. . . . To this colorful
fish-friendly house come the Cods' many fishy friends, shrimp comes
from Sandwich, bass from Mashpee, swordfish from Chatham, and so
on. And boy, do they know how to have fun!

These are the stories of four animals and their friends. There are
two cats - Cher Khan and Tabby. Cher Khan is a young ginger cat and
is rather vain. He loves attention and is forever looking at
himself in any mirror he can find. Tabby loves to eat, and anything
will do. A cat who likes his independence, he is quite a Jack the
Lad, but has a very kind heart. KoKo is a West Highland Terrier who
is very good at sorting out problems. Blackbird is, well, a
blackbird, excellent at singing. They all live in the village of
Little Chirp and get along together well. Mostly! Nearby is the
town of Chirp, which has a circus, shops, village green, a
playground and a library. In Little Chirp live Jamie and Leah, who
reside at Little Chirp Farm. Jamie is a farmer, and the couple make
a good living from the wonderful food Leah produces from the farm.
Jamie is also a great handyman. Dr Blister runs the village
veterinary surgery. He is a good-hearted chap who will help any
animal in trouble. Later on, we will meet the tigers, whose growl
is far worse than their bite. The animals all speak Animal
Language, which is not a difficult language to learn. Most humans
are too lazy to learn it, and although young children can speak it,
many grow out of it. However, animals understand EVERYTHING that we
say.
Roy enjoyed telling his grandchildren these stories and decided to
publish them for other children who enjoy a good tale, well told.
'Hilarious and charming. The most loveable duo since Frog and Toad' - Dav Pilkey, bestselling author of Dogman and Captain Underpants
Narwhal is a happy-go-lucky narwhal. Jelly is a no-nonsense jellyfish. The two might not have a lot in common, but they do they love waffles, parties and adventures. Join Narwhal and Jelly as they discover the whole wide ocean together.
A wonderfully silly early graphic novel series featuring three short stories and a super fun ocean fact page – and joke page too!
In the first, Jelly learns that Narwhal is a really good friend. Then Narwhal and Jelly form their own pod of awesomeness with their ocean friends. And finally, Narwhal and Jelly read the best book ever!
The perfect first book for young readers, just moving on from picture books, discovering the joys of friendship, working together and the power of imagination.
