Go on an adventure with Katherine Rundell ... From the winner of
the Costa Children's Book Prize 'A writer with an utterly
distinctive voice and a wild imagination' - Philip Pullman Feodora
and her mother live in the snowbound woods of Russia, in a house
full of food and fireplaces. Ten minutes away, in a ruined chapel,
lives a pack of wolves. Feodora's mother is a wolf wilder, and Feo
is a wolf wilder in training. A wolf wilder is the opposite of an
animal tamer: it is a person who teaches tamed animals to fend for
themselves, and to fight and to run, and to be wary of humans. When
the murderous hostility of the Russian Army threatens her very
existence, Feo is left with no option but to go on the run. What
follows is a story of revolution and adventure, about standing up
for the things you love and fighting back. And, of course, wolves.
Follow Juney Brown Toes, a young and adventurous Hare, her friends
Slow Freddy and Tufty Thomas, and many others, as they spend a
remarkable 'Mad March' day, racing, chasing and being chased by
friends and enemies alike. What will Juney do when the evil Grey
Hound shows up unexpectedly in the middle of a dangerous 'Hare of
the Dog' game, and will Farmer, and his daughter Samantha, be of
any help to save poor Slow Freddy from the jaws of the Grey Hound!
Hare's have been a fascination of mine for sometime. I've rarely
seen one! I remember walking above Lancaster, my hometown, some
years ago. It was a beautiful, crisp, sunny morning and the ground
was covered in a layer of snow. In nearly every field we walked
through a Hare would bolt from the hedge nearby and race across the
snow covered ground. They were magical to watch, almost alien in
appearance, and completely fascinating to me. I have since done
research on them, and they become more interesting with every new
fact I learn. They are ancient animals, and ever present in
mythologies from around the world. They are low down on the food
chain, and even buck rabbits have been known to kill Leverets now
and then. Speed and stealth are their only defenses, and they have
been clocked at near forty-five miles an hour, one of the fastest
land animals. Anyway I digress, this book is about Hares, it is
primarily written as a 'read to' book, for children of all ages. It
is an adventure/fantasy short story, and Hares are the heroes, with
a little girl taking a strong supporting role. The cherry-wood
carving of the Hare actually exists in my garden, and its origins,
bought from the side of the road from a bodger, are true too.
Otherwise this is a work of fiction written out of a love and
fascination for Hares, I hope you enjoy.

In this uplifting picture book about spring, follow two children
and their father through their backyard as they discover all the
different ways nature wakes up from its long winter sleep. Spot the
busy creatures and plants as the tale unfolds, then learn about how
each responds to the increasing daylight and warmth that usher in
the season. Co-authors Sean Taylor (picture book author) and Alex
Morss (ecologist, journalist, and educator) offer an inviting
introduction to the science behind spring. The yard is bright,
birds are singing, the bees are buzzing and there are tadpoles in
the pond! What is all the commotion about? In each colourful scene,
the family discovers a different sign of spring - a bird collecting
twigs for its nest, a fox snuggling her cubs, a caterpillar
feasting on leaves... After the story, annotated illustrations
explain the spring behaviours of various plants and animals.
Inspire an appreciation for the natural world in this joyous
exploration of spring.

An epic story of determination and love, about one family's escape from the Allied bombing of Dresden in the Second World War.
Lizzie and Karl's mother is a zoo keeper; the family has become attached to an orphaned elephant named Marlene, who will be destroyed as a precautionary measure so she and the other animals don't run wild should the zoo be hit by bombs. The family persuades the zoo director to let Marlene stay in their garden instead. When the city is bombed, the family flees with thousands of others, but how can they walk the same route when they have an elephant in tow, and keep themselves safe? Along the way, they meet Peter, a Canadian navigator who risks his own capture to save the family.
As Michael Morpurgo writes in an author's note, An Elephant in the Garden is inspired by historical truths, and by his admiration for elephants, "the noblest and wisest and most sensitive of all creatures." Here is a story that brings together an unlikely group of survivors whose faith in kindness and love proves the best weapon of all.

As the moon rises over the South African savannah, a young African
girl called Thembile and her father, a wildlife ranger, are out
patrolling through the night on horseback. They hear the
heart-rending cries of a terrified rhino calf, and find him
shivering beside the mutilated body of his mother. Help is
summoned, but who will care for this orphan, look after him and pay
for his milk and medicines? Ubuntu: Summer of the Rhino is
brilliantly told and beautifully illustrated and will delight
children from the age of eight years upwards. It tells the story of
a young African girl and an English boy living in Dubai, whose love
of animals and interest in wildlife inspires them to care for an
orphaned Rhino, Ubuntu. The story of Ubuntu the rhino weaves back
and forth across continents, at once heart-breaking and
heart-warming, teaching children the importance of conservation and
protecting our wildlife. All royalties will be donated to the Rhino
Rehabilitation Centre of Rhino Revolution, to help rescue and
rehabilitate orphaned rhinos. By buying this book you are making a
difference - but do join the Revolution and help make the world a
kinder place: visit rhinorevolution.org.
