Are we alone in the cosmos? Could we one day live on a different
planet? How is life formed? What other secrets does the universe
hold? Through profiles of seven remarkable women scientists
and their achievements in their respective fields, Searching Beyond
the Stars takes us deep into space, looking at once to the distant
past and the distant future to capture the awe and intrigue of some
of the biggest questions we can possibly ask. Making connections
across astronomy, chemistry, physics, history, and more, Nicole
Mortillaro draws on her own experience as a woman in STEM to
highlight the incredible odds each scientist faces while chasing
new discoveries and the ways in which sexism and racism, among
other barriers, still affect women scientists to this day. Sidebars
filled with fascinating facts take readers behind the science and
encourage them to delve deeper. Vibrant illustrations by Amanda Key
showcase the wonder of space and the passion and eternal curiosity
that drive each scientist in their work unfurling the mysteries of
our universe.

The recent COVID-19 global pandemic exemplifies the need for
efficient, reliable, and real-time tools and technology for
forecasting and predicting healthcare disasters as well as for
helping to restrict subsequent spread and fatality of deadly
diseases. This new book discusses many of the innovative and
state-of-the-art tools and technology that can help meet the
challenges of predicting such disasters. The chapters offer a
plethora of useful information for designing healthcare disaster
management systems that can be dynamically configurable with
implementation of today’s modern technology, such as cloud
computing, artificial intelligence, IoT, data analytics, and
machine learning. These can increase effectiveness in remote
sensing technologies, data analytics, data storage, communication
networks, geographic information system (GIS), and global
positioning System (GPS), to name a few. The book discusses
mathematical models using graph-based approaches for analyzing
dynamic, heterogeneous, and unstructured data for applications in
epidemiology. The authors also address the use of mobile
applications for communication efforts and remote monitoring for
gauging health and the effectiveness of preventive healthcare
measures. The chapters discuss influencing factors that directly or
indirectly target public health infrastructure that can lead to or
exacerbate global health crises, such as extreme climate changes,
refugee health crises, terrorism and cyberterrorism, and
technology-related incidents. The book further looks at efficient
methods to analyze disasters and how to deliver healthcare in areas
of conflict and crisis. This important volume, Global Healthcare
Disasters: Predicting the Unpredictable with Emerging Technologies,
provides a bounty of useful information for health professionals,
academicians, researchers, governmental agencies, and policymakers

Winner of the 2021 Ruth Lovell Murray Book Award Dance Education
redefines the nature of dance pedagogy today, setting it within a
holistic and encompassing framework, and argues for an approach to
dance education from a soci-cultural and philosophical perspective.
In the past, dance education has focused on the learning of dance,
limited to Western-based societies, with little attention to how
dance is learned and applied globally. This book seeks to re-frame
the way dance education is defined, approached and taught by
looking beyond the privileged Western dance forms to compare
education from different cultures. Structured into three parts,
this book examines the following essential questions: - What is
dance? What defines dance as an art form? - How and where is dance
performed and for what purpose? - How do social contexts shape the
making and interpretation of dance? The first part covers the
history of dance education and its definition. The second part
discusses current contexts and applications, including global
contexts and the ability to apply and comprehend dance education in
a variety of contexts. This book opens up definitions, rather than
categorising, so that dance is not presented in a hierarchical
form. The third part continues to define dance education in ways
that have not been discussed in the past: informal contexts. The
book then returns to the original definition of dance education as
a way of knowing oneself and the world around us, ending on the
philosophical application of this self-knowledge as a way to be in
the world and to engage with others, regardless of background. This
textbook is a refreshing and much-needed contribution to the field
of dance studies by one of the most eminent voices in the field.
