Ben Hogan's legendary secret finally comes to light, literally making it a whole new ball game. This Whip grip (coupled with a change in the stance) is designed to give the rest of us the flexibility that has been missing from the Vardon technique since the days of the hickory shaft. Named after the first man-made object to break the sound barrier - the Bullwhip - it enhances the four variables to the physics formula for distance: more length, width, launch angle and clubhead speed. The senior golfer will find it a veritable fountain of youth; supplying extra distance, while massively reducing joint and muscle stress with an astounding additional THREE FEET OF TAKEAWAY ON THE DRAWBACK. For the pro, it prevents the small muscles in the hands from creating havoc under the pressure of the TV cameras. For the novice, it's a fast track method of improvement to the intermediate and advanced levels. And, for the non-golfer, it provides a method of hearing the glorious wail of the bagpipes for the very first time.

Often called "Mr. Golf" or the "Icon of Golf," Harry Vardon was not much interested in golf as a child. His brother Tom loved golf and Harry eventually gave it a try in his late teens in his hometown of Gourville, Jersey on the British Channel Islands. Harry became a super star and was the first golfer to ever wear knickerbockers. With the first one being in 1896, Harry went on to win SIX Open Championships - a record that still stands today. In 1900, he toured the United States as the first international golf celebrity and finished his tour by winning the U.S. Open. The movie "The Greatest Game Ever Played" is about Harry's runner up performance at the 1913 U.S. Open. Harry was also a runner up at the 1920 U.S. Open at the age of 50. Harry struggled for years with tuberculosis but managed to win 62 golf tournaments with a record 14 in a row. When his health grew too poor to continue playing, Harry spent his time coaching and writing golf instruction and inspirational books. Harry Vardon died in 1937 in Totteridge, Hertfordshire, England. After his death, the PGA of America created the Vardon Trophy. It is awarded annually to the player on the PGA Tour with the year's lowest adjusted scoring average. This is an absolute "must read" for any golfer who has not yet had the pleasure

After dominating the world of golf from 2000 to 2002, Tiger Woods
struggled with his game in 2003, allowing four relative unknowns to
win major championships. Mike Weir triumphed in the Masters,
becoming the first Canadian to win a major. Jim Furyk emerged
victorious in the U.S. Open. In the British Open, Ben Curtis became
the first player since Francis Ouimet in 1913 to win while playing
in his first major championship. And Shaun Micheel prevailed at the
PGA Championship with the first tour victory of his career.
ELEVATE YOUR GAME If you have ever played golf in the Carolina Mountains, the pages inside will be a treasure. If you have wanted to play golf at a higher level, this will be your guide. You can learn about the best public and semi-private 18-hole courses to play. Or you can read about two of the nation's finest course architects, the late Donald Ross and the great Tom Fazio... our toughest 18 holes... where you can rent llamas as caddies or how to send used clubs to the military serving in the world's largest sand traps. Yes, your golf ball will travel further on tee shots in the higher elevations. But the remarkable scenery will be a distraction. Our courses include boulders larger than your vehicle, streams winding through many fairways, lots of ponds, the largest lake in the state in terms of shoreline, even a few flat spots for aiming at those undulating greens - usually above or below you. And gorgeous waterfalls. Oh, don't forget to enjoy the views Cover photo: By Ron Clark of First Tee Mountain Golf at Mount Mitchell Golf Club. As Tiger Woods broke down in tears on the 18th green at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, legions of spectators strained their eyes to read the emotion on his face. Like the millions watching on television, they knew that Tiger had just won the British Open, and that his father had recently died. Beyond that, however, they knew precious little -- only that he played with a Nike golf ball, carried an American Express card in his wallet, and, presumably, drove a Buick. They were hungry for more, but everything else about his off-course life, and those of his fellow pros, was forbiddingly well-guarded. Until now. In "The Scorecard Always Lies" veteran "Sports Illustrated" golf correspondent Chris Lewis reaches past the results, stats, and sound-bites to focus on the personalities and personal lives of the sport's top players. While embracing all the drama and excitement of the 2006 PGA Tour season, he takes us inside the locker rooms, hotel rooms, and private planes to deliver an unrivaled, behind-thescenes look at the Tour and the men who play it. Lewis spent thirty weeks of the 2006 season on the road with the best golfers in the world, exploring their backstories, motivations, and preoccupations, and collecting telling, character-revealing tales. He bore witness to both the hard work and the privilege that frame their lifestyles. But he also discovered a Tour that to this point remained largely unknown -- one where a player while pursuing dreams of glory might also be suing his agent, going through a messy divorce, or looking to throw down in the locker room with one of his peers. There's John Daly trying to explain how his wife has just been taken off to jail. There's Chris Couch making a midnight, barefoot run through a derelict district of New Orleans, fearing he was about to be kidnapped, and taking refuge in a tattoo parlor. We watch as Tiger Woods tries to deal with losing his father to cancer, while refusing to abandon his fondness for blue humor. We see Phil Mickelson hanging with rock stars, sharing a Masters victory gift with a national championship-winning college football coach, and hooking up a sportswriter with a would-be groupie's phone number. All in all, we get a rare glimpse of the off-course lives of the Tour's stars and their supporting cast. At turns humorous, touching, and insightful, the book sheds new light on every aspect of Tour life, from easygoing Tuesday practice rounds to feverpitch Sunday showdowns, always taking care to show how their off-course concerns inform their every swing. Fans will savor the fullest portrait yet of a group of players who, throughout their successes and struggles, remain unfailingly smart, funny, and engaging, and make up the most intriguing subculture in all of sports.
It was "scary," Jack Nicklaus said of Pebble Beach, and gave him nightmares so acute he famously woke his wife on the eve of his 1972 U.S. Open victory totally spooked. "It's not a golf course," sportswriter Jim Murray wrote, "it's a hellship." Golf writer Dan Jenkins once joked that the famed venue of the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am should be dubbed "Double Bogey-by-the-Sea." A one-time failed Division One golf walk-on, Zachary Michael Jack opts to stare down an early midlife crisis by chronicling a U.S. Open year spent at Pebble Beach, object of his ailing father's fantasies and site of the nation's number one public course and its fairy-tale host town, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. There, along the blue Pacific, he traces the colorful, capricious, and comical world of golf on the Monterey Peninsula as never before via interviews with legends of the game Johnny Miller, Gary Player, and Tom Watson; with today's brightest stars-Padraig Harrington, Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson; and with some of its most famous celebrity linksters-actor Bill Murray, Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain, and billionaire entrepreneur Charles Schwab. Conducting more than one hundred interviews, Jack ranges far and wide to get the scoop, talking golfing haunts with bestselling golf novelist Michael Murphy; teeing up with members of a Carmel-based worldwide golfing society devoted to mystical play; learning to play Pebble at the knee of one of the Top 50 Golf Teachers in America and with a Carmel-based journeyman pro described as "a golf savant"; and raising a cup with a lifelong Pebble Beach resident and caddy who, unbeknownst to the hackers he shepherds, is a Hall of Fame golfer. By turns hilarious, haunting, and historic, Let There Be Pebble reveals the utter uniqueness-the people, the rich history, the unforgettable setting and sporting culture-of this one-of-a-kind golfing cathedral.
