In 1999, the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament - known to many as Q School - will find itself sitting on 35 years of unique history. Q School Confidential chronicles this tournament's deep, dense story of heartbreak, black humor, back-room politics and magnificent golf under dire circumstances.
Danny O'Malley, a fairly decent amateur golfer, is tricked into selling his soul to the devil in exchange for a promise of winning the richest prize ever offered in a professional tournament: Five million dollars A history of the game and many of its greatest players is interspersed throughout the story. Why do people from every culture attempt to master this cruel game when there is so little chance of success? For example, can you name a great Italian golfer? Trust me, my friends. There are no great Italian golfers. In the spring, when the first bold blossoms of bougainvillea splash down the hillsides of Sicily in a glorious crimson tide and gondoliers ply their trade along the romantic canals of Venice, a young man is more intrigued by the upward slash of a signorina's skirt than the downward slope of a green, and more beguiled by the lie that rests on her lips than the lie of a dimpled white ball in the fairway. The English, self-deprecating and stoical, are as emotionally suited for golf as they are for espionage. They know the fairways and greens are as duplicitous as any double agent and will ultimately betray them. It is not a question of if, but a matter of when. For years, Nick Faldo was the personification of a golfing machine, an assassin of par whose deadly game struck fear in the hearts of opponents. His sponsors tried to humanize him to enhance the sale of their products. On rare occasions, an involuntary twitch in the shadowy recesses of his stiff upper lip created the fleeting illusion of a smile. But their feeble attempt to cast the dour Brit as Prince Charming fooled no one and was as futile an exercise as painting a happy face on the Sphinx in order to alter its enigmatic essence. Still, in fairness to "Sir" Nick-recently knighted by Queen Elizabeth-it should be noted that as tournament prize money has escalated to astronomical levels, the Americans and Europeans have also developed a decent impersonation of Faldo's English sc

Fancourt is a luxurious multi-million rand golf estate in George in the Western Cape. It has four golf courses, a health and beauty centre and a conference centre, among other amenities. And it is the venue for the prestigious Presidents Cup in November 2003. This Presidents Cup brings together the 12 best American golfers to compete against the 12 best players from the rest of the world (excluding Europe) and attracts golfing enthusiasts from around the world. While the golf courses at Fancourt are becoming increasingly well known, the colourful history of the estate has never been told. Henry Fancourt White built Blanco House in 1859 in the style of a Cotswold mansion. He lost his money the following year due to the collapse of the George Divisional Bank and died a pauper in 1866. The next two owners also went bankrupt -- a recurring theme in the history of the property. Fancourt's son Montagu acquired the property in 1903 and renamed it in memory of his father, but he was fated to meet an untimely end. Successive owners had a chequered time of running the estate until 1994 when Dr Hasso Plattner became Fancourt's new owner and set about bringing it to its present glory.

Rich Beem became an overnight folk hero with his victory at the 2002 PGA Championship, where he dazzled fans with fearless shotmaking and glib one-liners. By the time Beem had stared down Tiger Woods in an epic back nine and then danced a goofy jig on the final green, the sports world was clamoring to know, "Who is this guy, anyway?" That question is answered in Bud, Sweat, & Tees, Alan Shipnuck's no-holds-barred look at modern professional golf. Shipnuck began tracking Beem during his rookie year in 1999, when he was a logo-free rube only a couple of years removed from a seven-dollar-an-hour job hawking cell phones. Beem and his hard-living caddie, Steve Duplantis, would find sudden fame and fortune, and Shipnuck enjoyed unparalleled access in chronicling their wild ride -- sharing endless drives across the desert and eventful nights at strip clubs, cutthroat golf matches and late-night confessionals at assorted watering holes. The result is an intimate portrait of two exceedingly colorful characters. Beem and Duplantis invite us deep into the world of the PGA Tour, exposing the rowdy, randy reality of the most interesting subculture in sports, which has always been a well-protected secret -- until now. Sometimes bawdy, often hilarious, and always unpredictable, Bud, Sweat, & Tees stands as the finest insider sports book since Ball Four.

It may be true that no athlete is bigger than the game, but one thing is certain: Tiger Woods is golf. From dominating the junior ranks in his boyhood, to becoming the first player in history to hold four major championship trophies at once—the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA—it has been his mental game that fuels his fire.
For the first time ever, John Andrisani explores the mind and its expansive application to golf, using Tiger Woods as the ultimate role model. Think Like Tiger shows how the champion’s techniques can be applied to anyone’s game. Learn how to:
• Use the power of concentration to let nothing disturb you • Meditate to alleviate mental stress and relax muscles • Use your imagination when planning shots • Practice shots that will stimulate your mind • Develop your own system for inducing self-confidence
“I’m honored to say that I was one of the official members of ‘Team Tiger’.
