The pencils feature dark graphite with high density, providing distinctive contrast for artists. The pencils are coated in a fine black varnish with gold-blocked writing and a distinctive white stripe over the paint-dipped end. The barrel is hexagonal and the very end is cylindrical. Available in 17 degrees of hardness: 9H - 6H (extreme hard): for special techniques like Litho work, 5H - 3H (very hard): for technical detail drawing, 2H-H (hard): for geometric and technical drawing, HB - H (medium): writing and linear drawing, B - 3B (soft): free-hand-drawing and writing, 4B - 6B (very soft): used mainly in arts for light, expressive drawing.

Faber Castell Graphite Aquarelle pencils are watersoluble, which makes them ideal for preliminary sketches for watercolour drawings as well as for grisaille-effect watercolour graphite drawings. The pigments dissolve completely when lightly brushed with water. The leads are 3.3mm diameter and come in five grades: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B and 8B. This pencil is a 4B.
