The dark night was strangely quiet. The moon had disappeared behind
the clouds, and there were absolutely no sounds. Not just quiet,
but total silence. Then the lonesome cry of a whippoorwill broke
the silence. Or was it really a whippoorwill!
A strange ghost-like figure appears during the night as the
twins and their cousin are camping in the Ozark Mountains above
Moore's Lake near Heber Springs, Arkansas. Akiela, the last of a
mysterious tribe of Native Americans, has come to warn the young
adventurers about evil men in the area of the lake. He seems to be
able to appear and disappear at will. He is very tall, and pale,
almost deathlike...his long white hair flowing to his narrow
shoulders. His eyes burn with agitation and displeasure at what is
happening to his beloved mountains.
geskiedenisboek. Nieke en Kurt besef hulle droom albei oor onaardse
aaklige musiek, en 'n koor van kinders geklee in swart, met aardige
groot koppe . . .
Elena is the school beauty, but she's bored, until a new boy turns
up in her class. Stefan is dark and mysterious - and she's
determined to get to know him better. But Stefan is just as
determined to resist her...until a series of attacks in the area
terrify the town and Stefan is held responsible. Elena is the only
one who offers to help and, falling in love with her, Stefan tells
her his terrible story. He is a vampire, on the run from his evil
brother, Damon, who doesn't share Stefan's qualms about drinking
human blood. And Damon is the one Stefan suspects of really being
behind the recent attacks...Can Elena help prove his innocence -
without revealing his secret?

This deliciously spooky, yearningly romantic ghost story from a
brilliant debut author will thrill fans of Kalynn Bayron and Wilder
Girls by Rory Power. Jade Nguyen has always lied to fit in. She's
straight enough, Vietnamese enough, American enough - at least for
this summer with her estranged father in Vietnam. Just five weeks
of ignoring the quietly decaying French colonial house he's fixing
up, then college and freedom are hers. But soon Jade begins waking
up every morning certain that something has clawed down her throat
... from the inside. Then the ghost of a beautiful bride visits her
with a cryptic warning: DON'T EAT. When her father and little
sister don't believe her, Jade decides to scare them into leaving
by staging some haunting events of her own. She recruits Florence,
the daughter of her dad's business associate (and more of a
distraction than Jade bargained for) to help. But the house has
other plans. It's hungry. A home, after all, is only as powerful as
those who breathe new life into its bones. And this one is
determined never to be abandoned again ...
