Growing plants in the home has always been popular, and in this volume interior and garden designer, Diana Yakeley, shows how to choose and position plants to create maximum impact, taking into account scale and proportion, form and shape, colour and scent, and texture and pattern.;There is also guidance on finding just the right containers and accessories to suit different plants and room schemes. A section on interiors looks at each room of the house in turn, revealing the best plants to create a striking focal point. The remaining chapters are a visual extravaganza of plant displays. Choose from the understated elegance of architectural plants, cacti and succulents or foliage plants in "Plant Sculpture", or indulge those creative urges with the section on "Colour". "Seasonal Displays" shows how to ring in the changes throughout the year, while "Edible Plants" explains how to grow herbs, salad leaves and tender fruits indoors. A useful section at the end of the book gives practical advice on how to care for indoor plants, while "Plant Focus" provides detailed horticultural information on a range of different plants.
From the visual variety of foliage to the wide range of artfully
designed pots and planters, keeping houseplants is an addictive
hobby that's enjoying a renaissance in popularity. In Plant
Inspiration Frame-Ups, 50 beautifully illustrated affirmation cards
derive wisdom from the world of indoor plants, with each card
featuring clever plant-art interpretations of classic phrases.
"Don't be afraid to take up space" is juxtaposed with a monstrous
monstera plant engulfing a living room; "Take a moment to breathe"
features a collection of air plants suspended in hanging planters;
and "Create something" comes alive with an illustration of a spider
plant sprouting many pups. Bright, whimsical, and uplifting, these
cards call out to be displayed, and the Frame-Ups format makes it
easy to do just that. With a pull-out tabletop frame included, you
don't need to have a green thumb to display your favorite saying or
swap it out for another whenever you need fresh perspective.

setting up their homes for the first time and discovering that
nothing can add energy, style, and that essential "lived-in-ness"
to their spaces better than a little bit of green. Whether it's a
statement-making fiddle-leaf fig or a tiny tabletop succulent, a
houseplant instantly elevates the look of your home. But where to
begin? In Decorating with Plants, Baylor Chapman walks readers

The floristic diversity in southern Africa is not only one of the
region's greatest natural assets, but also one of the botanical
wonders of the world. Here, South of the Cunene-Zambezi rivers,
more than 10% of all vascular plants (over 30,000 species),
including more than 46% of all succulents, are found on about 2.5%
of the world's land surface area. Moreover, at least 60% of these
species are strictly confined (endemic) to the region.;It is
remarkable that most of southern Africa's endemic plants are
concentrated in only a few relatively small and well demarcated
areas known as Regions or Centres of Endemism. Although the
existence of these centres has been known to field botanists for a
long time, most of them remain comparatively unknown outside
scientific circles. Over many years, the authors of this work have
carefully documented the diversity of endemic plants and here they
present the results of their efforts to recognize and define areas
that warrant status as "centres of endemism".;Contrary to what
would be expected from a botanically rich region, large parts of
southern Africa are subjected to regular and almost predictive
droughts, prolonged periods of below-average rainfall and a marked
seasonality in precipitation. One consequence of the general
aridity of the region has been the development of succulence as a
survival strategy in many plants, including a significant
proportion of endemics. In addition, many of these fat-bodied
plants have acquired distinct defence mechanisms that enable them
to survive in this harsh and often inhospitable climate. The
resultant peculiar forms and behaviour patterns of these plants
have fascinated botanists, plant explorers and the general public
for years.;Whereas the classification and mapping of southern
Africa's vegetation types have been the subject of numerous
publications, the classification and mapping of the distribution
patterns of the region's plant species have been neglected. This
study brings together all the relevant information on most of the
principal Regions and local Centres of Plant Endemism in southern
Africa.

beans and that they are truly easy to grow, no matter where you try
to do so. All plants in this book can be grown in jars, colanders,
sieves, or bags at any height, using many different kinds of light
sources, and even under pressure. In addition to showing how to
grow shoots and sprouts, Wallentinson teaches how to make delicious
meals with your harvest. Using step-by-step pictures and
descriptive recipes, she demonstrates that shoots and sprouts are
much more than just decorations on a plate. Recipes include sushi

friends, this book is perfect for urbanites with little or no
outdoor space who want to increase the amount of greenery in their
life.
In today's world of technological advancements, political
polarization, the responsibilities of life and career, and the
unending world of social media chatter, many of us are stressed
out, inside all the time, and yearning for peace. After certified
horticulturalist and master pruner Karen Hugg discovered the
miraculous effects of peaceful planting on her own life, she
wondered whether these powerful benefits were limited to people who
had a garden. Can apartment dwellers heal from their stress with
either a small or no outdoor area? Is it possible to create a
soothing green space indoors with houseplants? And, for those who
are either physically unable or uninclined to grow plants, could
they benefit as well by mimicking a green space through photos and
decor? According to the growing amount of scientific research about
the healing effects of nature, the answer is yes. Leaf Your
Troubles Behind shows readers how to discover nature's healing
effects to reduce stress and increase happiness. This practical and
inspiring book puts forth the concept of "Green Leisure", an
original and approachable system for dialing into nature's healing
via seven basic destressing strategies. Composed of relatable
stories, insightful scientific research, and fun, easy-to-do
exercises for beginners and experts alike, this guide to
houseplants and their profound impact will be a refreshing oasis in
our mostly indoor world of work, school, and home where screens,
not nature, dominate our lives. Through stories, science, and
easily replicable exercises, Leaf Your Troubles Behind offers
detailed how-to advice on creating your own plant-oriented space to
unlock and maintain the power of nature at home.
