Along the way, you’ll see practical implementations of this important discipline along with thorough coverage and straightforward explanations of essential theories. This book intends to bridge the gap between researchers and practitioners, providing both with a comprehensive, easy-to-digest, and useful reference guide. After completing this book, you will have a firm grasp of Bayesian optimization techniques, which you’ll be able to put into practice in your own machine learning models. What You Will Learn Apply Bayesian Optimization to build better machine learning models Understand and research existing and new Bayesian Optimization techniques Leverage high-performance libraries such as BoTorch, which offer you the ability to dig into and edit the inner working Dig into the inner workings of common optimization algorithms used to guide the search process in Bayesian optimization Who This Book Is ForBeginner to intermediate level professionals in machine learning, analytics or other roles relevant in data science.

Computational and Machine Learning Tools for Archaeological Site Modeling (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Maria Elena Castiello Computational and Machine Learning Tools for Archaeological Site Modeling (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Maria Elena Castiello
R6,463 Discovery Miles 64 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book describes a novel machine-learning based approach to answer some traditional archaeological problems, relating to archaeological site detection and site locational preferences. Institutional data collected from six Swiss regions (Zurich, Aargau, Grisons, Vaud, Geneva and Fribourg) have been analyzed with an original conceptual framework based on the Random Forest algorithm. It is shown how the algorithm can assist in the modelling process in connection with heterogeneous, incomplete archaeological datasets and related cultural heritage information. Moreover, an in-depth review of past and more recent works of quantitative methods for archaeological predictive modelling is provided. The book guides the readers to set up their own protocol for: i) dealing with uncertain data, ii) predicting archaeological site location, iii) establishing environmental features importance, iv) and suggest a model validation procedure. It addresses both academics and professionals in archaeology and cultural heritage management, and offers a source of inspiration for future research directions in the field of digital humanities and computational archaeology.

Machine Learning and Its Application to Reacting Flows - ML and Combustion (Paperback, 1st ed. 2023): Nedunchezhian... Machine Learning and Its Application to Reacting Flows - ML and Combustion (Paperback, 1st ed. 2023)
Nedunchezhian Swaminathan, Alessandro Parente
R1,431 Discovery Miles 14 310 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This open access book introduces and explains machine learning (ML) algorithms and techniques developed for statistical inferences on a complex process or system and their applications to simulations of chemically reacting turbulent flows. These two fields, ML and turbulent combustion, have large body of work and knowledge on their own, and this book brings them together and explain the complexities and challenges involved in applying ML techniques to simulate and study reacting flows. This is important as to the world's total primary energy supply (TPES), since more than 90% of this supply is through combustion technologies and the non-negligible effects of combustion on environment. Although alternative technologies based on renewable energies are coming up, their shares for the TPES is are less than 5% currently and one needs a complete paradigm shift to replace combustion sources. Whether this is practical or not is entirely a different question, and an answer to this question depends on the respondent. However, a pragmatic analysis suggests that the combustion share to TPES is likely to be more than 70% even by 2070. Hence, it will be prudent to take advantage of ML techniques to improve combustion sciences and technologies so that efficient and "greener" combustion systems that are friendlier to the environment can be designed. The book covers the current state of the art in these two topics and outlines the challenges involved, merits and drawbacks of using ML for turbulent combustion simulations including avenues which can be explored to overcome the challenges. The required mathematical equations and backgrounds are discussed with ample references for readers to find further detail if they wish. This book is unique since there is not any book with similar coverage of topics, ranging from big data analysis and machine learning algorithm to their applications for combustion science and system design for energy generation.

Machine Learning Algorithm for Fatigue Fields in Additive Manufacturing (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Mustafa Mamduh Mustafa Awd Machine Learning Algorithm for Fatigue Fields in Additive Manufacturing (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Mustafa Mamduh Mustafa Awd
R2,655 Discovery Miles 26 550 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Fatigue failure of structures used in transportation, industry, medical equipment, and electronic components needs to build a link between cutting-edge experimental characterization and probabilistically grounded numerical and artificially intelligent tools. The physics involved in this process chain is computationally prohibitive to comprehend using traditional computation methods. Using machine learning and Bayesian statistics, a defect-correlated estimate of fatigue strength was developed. Fatigue, which is a random variable, is studied in a Bayesian-based machine learning algorithm. The stress-life model was used based on the compatibility condition of life and load distributions. The defect-correlated assessment of fatigue strength was established using the proposed machine learning and Bayesian statistics algorithms. It enabled the mapping of structural and process-induced fatigue characteristics into a geometry-independent load density chart across a wide range of fatigue regimes.

Impact of Class Assignment on Multinomial Classification Using Multi-Valued Neurons (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022): Julian Knaup Impact of Class Assignment on Multinomial Classification Using Multi-Valued Neurons (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Julian Knaup
R2,610 Discovery Miles 26 100 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Multilayer neural networks based on multi-valued neurons (MLMVNs) have been proposed to combine the advantages of complex-valued neural networks with a plain derivative-free learning algorithm. In addition, multi-valued neurons (MVNs) offer a multi-valued threshold logic resulting in the ability to replace multiple conventional output neurons in classification tasks. Therefore, several classes can be assigned to one output neuron. This book introduces a novel approach to assign multiple classes to numerous MVNs in the output layer. It was found that classes that possess similarities should be allocated to the same neuron and arranged adjacent to each other on the unit circle. Since MLMVNs require input data located on the unit circle, two employed transformations are reevaluated. The min-max scaler utilizing the exponential function, and the 2D discrete Fourier transform restricting to the phase information for image recognition. The evaluation was performed on the Sensorless Drive Diagnosis dataset and the Fashion MNIST dataset.
