Atelier’s Unlocking Formula has been specifically designed to help you control the drying of Atelier Interactive. It allows you to keep your acrylic paint wet for as long as you need. Mix the Unlocking Formula into your paint with either a brush or an atomiser spray. This formula will keep your paint wet, it will also re-wet or re-open recently dried paint. Free flowing slightly thixotropic medium with an alkyd based. This medium will not increase gloss when added to oil colours. Fast drying and non-yellowing. Use this medium to thin oil paint. Stir before use.

It is is advised to store Jackson's Oil Medium at a stable temperature. Storage in an overly hot or cold environment will affect the consistency of the product.

Jackson's Alkyd Medium should be quite a fluid medium.

Maintenance of Alkyd Mediums - Like all alkyd-based mediums, the introduction of air space in the bottle allows for solvent evaporation and drying - even with the lid closed. To compensate, add a little solvent of your choice to the bottle immediately after use and shake it well to maintain the desired thickness of the medium. We tested a variety of types of solvent and they all worked.

Rescuing Thickened Alkyd Medium - If your painting medium has thickened but is still fluid, add in a small amount of solvent and shake thoroughly. Continue adding more solvent and shaking until the medium is close to its original consistency. If a fluid alkyd painting medium has thickened to a gelled consistency, it will no longer help to add solvent - unfortunately it cannot be rescued.

Sennelier’s Gum Arabic is sourced from the finest gum that Kordofan in Sudan has to offer. It is retained in its raw natural state. The large chunks should be dissolved in cold water slowly and gently in order to preserve the gum’s maximum binding strength. The solution should be stirred frequently during the dissolving process. Once dissolved, a solution very rich in resin is obtained. Gum Arabic is an ideal binder for gouache and watercolour.

XL Crackle Paste is designed for adding textural effects and impasto to artworks on a range of surfaces.

The kit consists of two parts, a white base (primer) and the XL Crackle paste for the top layer. The primer adheres well to materials such as canvas, wood, styrofoam, plastic, glass or metal. It is not suitable for materials made of silicone. The primer adheres perfectly to the crackle paste and can be pigmented before application.

The XL Crackle Paste is a structural paste for the production of cracks, which appear as the paste dries. These cracks are deeper and wider the thicker you apply the XL Crackle Paste - a layer of up to 50mm thick is possible. Paint can be sprayed or painted over the crackle paste after application - please see below for more information.

Base Layer: Component 1 : Base / primer (small container). Apply the white primer paste as a base coat on your surface / substrate. Apply a thin and uniform layer. The primer adheres well to canvas, wood, styrofoam, plastic, glass or metal. It will not bond well to silicone or materials with silicone content.

XL Crackle Paste: The XL Crackle Paste is a structure paste for the creation of cracks. Cracks will appear as the paste dries. The cracks will be deeper and wider the thicker you apply the XL Crackle Paste. A layer thickness up to 50 mm is possible. Adhesion of the XL paste to the Base / primer (component 1) is excellent. Optimum results are achieved at temperatures of 18–25°C.

Tinting the base layer: The Base primer is white by default. When you apply the XL Crackle Paste on top, cracks will appear in the paste and the white colour of the
primer will be visible underneath and show through the cracks. Use regular acrylic paint or acrylic inks as a pigment to get the colour shade you desire.
Simply mix them into the Base primer by adding a maximum of 20% pigment. For example, if you need a total of 100g to prime your painting surface, you can use 80g of primer and 20g of paint (or more primer and less paint). You can introduce more flashy colours by mixing
shimmering pigments into the primer or use EliGlow Photo Luminescent pigment powders to provide a radiance to your crackle art. You are limited only by your own imagination!

Pigmenting the XL Crackle paste: By default the XL crackle paste is beige in colour. The paste itself cannot be coloured before application, but you can still colour your cracks afterwards. You have two options for doing this:
Option A: Spray the XL Crackle Paste with spraypaint immediately after application (i.e. when still wet). The paste will break apart and as it dries and you will obtain coloured cracks.
Option B: Let the XL crackle paste dry, then paint the surface as desired. You can either select individual cracks or paint the entire surface. With this technique take care not to let the paint run into the cracks otherwise you will no longer have a colour contrast

A mid viscosity medium that allows paint to be diluted smoothly for glazing and blending techniques without altering sheen level.
