In this revised edition of the Period Ship Handbook, the best of
the original has been retained: a well-illustrated guide to the
construction of static model sailing ships and the offer to the
beginner of all the information needed to get started in this
fascinating hobby. It also continues to introduce the more
experienced model-maker to alternative techniques, well tried over
many years of model shipbuilding. Significant additions have been
made to the original text as a result of a further twelve years of
model-making experience and developments within the kit producing
trade and the availability of new subjects. Following chapters on
kit selection, tools and material, the emphasis of the book moves
to the practical application of the model-making procedures
involved in producing high quality models. The new models selected
to demonstrate these techniques range form the relatively simple to
the very complex but all are constructed from kits currently
available, without the facility of a sophisticated workshop.
Whether you are a beginner or an old hand, whether you fancy the
graceful lines of a 'J' Class yacht or the intricate detail and
historical accuracy of HMS Victory, there is something here for
you.
The evolution of the compact, or portable, lathe has brought many a
model engineer's life-long ambition to reality. No longer regarded
as the scaled-down variant of the long-established permanent
workshop machine, they are purpose-designed tools of remarkable
ingenuity in their own right. Compact lathes (such as the Unimat
III, Peatol, Shearline and Cowell range) are inexpensive,
self-contained, adaptable to a broad range of machining techniques
and ideally suited for beginners and those with working space
restrictions. Stan Bray's comprehensive introduction to the subject
covers the technology and the components, the machining operations
and facilities which will enable the novice or experienced operator
quickly to reach full proficiency and achieve the highest standards
of lathe work.
Building Revell's most popular models, the 1/12 scale Ford Mustang
Shelby GT500 car kit. This book covers building the kit several
ways, from nearly stock, to doing an an engine swap, to even a
themed project. You will know this car model inside and out, with
tips, examples, and full color images. While the kit is a good one,
offered by one of the Hobbies best known model companies, Revell,
this book will take the assembly of this kit to an even better
level. See what you can do with only a few modifications and
painting ideas. Step by step instructions show you ways you can
make your GT500 even better, but still enjoy the build with a
minimum of fuss.
Although most models of railway locomotives are produced in a
pristine condition, in reality the external condition of most
locomotives quickly deteriorated as operation and weather took
their toll. Of all the skills associated with railway modelling,
that of weathering of locomotives is perhaps one of the most
difficult. It is very easy to spoil an otherwise beautiful model by
the careless application of paint but as increasing numbers of
modellers seek to create an ever more authentic feel for their
layouts, information on the best methods of application becomes all
the more important. This informative new volume provides the
modeller with a guide to the principles and practice of weathering
locomotives, providing modellers of all levels and abilities with a
step by step guide to the skills involved and the pros and cons of
undertaking such work on models. Following the same format as the
rest of the 'Aspects of Modelling' series, the book includes
instructive text alongside detailed colour illustrations. Examples
of weathering include multiple-units as well as steam, diesel and
electric locomotives. As well as the popular 4mm scale, the author
also includes examples of 7mm and 2mm scale models.
A great book on Building Model boats with some new ideas of how to
use Styrofoam in the body of boats and ships. An easy way to build
the model boat of your dreams with new ideas that will take a lot
of guess work out of the drawing boat plans the old fashioned way
so time to get started.
In this issue we have a very spooky '32 sedan by John Teresi, a
large scale '32 roadster and Honda GP car by Ken Leslie, Nathan
"Skip" Perrine shows us a cool gas station. Our ProMod chassis
project continues, and we build a pair of flamed '56 Chevies, plus
much, much more...
The Avro Lancaster, such a stalwart of the skies during the Second
World War, also enjoyed an interesting and surprisingly colourful
post-war career. It is this era that the authors have chosen to
focus on by profiling the type across its many variants. Split into
three primary sections, this book offers a concise yet informative
history of the Lancaster's post-war operational career (from
1945-1965) charting the course of the various alterations and
improvements that occurred during this time and including a
selection of contemporary photographs with detailed captions. A
16-page section features 32 colour illustrations (in profiles,
2-views and 4-views) specially prepared by Mark Gauntlett. The
book's final section provides a list and box top illustrations of
the plastic model kits produced of the Lancaster in all scales plus
reviews and 'how to' construction notes on building a selection of
kits in 1/144, 1/72 and 1/48 scales. As with the other books in the
Flight Craft series, whilst published primarily with the scale
aircraft modeller in mind, it is hoped that those readers who might
perhaps describe themselves as 'occasional' modellers - if indeed
they model at all - may also find that this colourful and
informative work offers something to provoke their interests too.
Building Scale Ferrari Models of Great Italian Sports Cars. Follow
along as several Ferrari scale model cars are built and assembled.
Learn tips and techniques to create your own plastic super cars
from kits. Each Ferrari car is unique on it's own, with technology
and engineering that would rival an F16. Building your own model of
these great cars lets you peek inside and see just how sports cars
were really made This book includes models such as: Hasegawa's
250TR, Revell's 599 GTO, Revell's Enzo, and Monogram's Miami Vice
Testarossa. Each car is very different, and let's you see how these
models can be great projects for you to build.
