Amsterdam based, Brazilian-born producer and vocalist LYZZA is Big Dada’s latest signing since re-launching as a label run by Black, POC & Minority Ethnic people for Black, POC & Minority Ethnic artists. Making waves in the contemporary electronic scene since the age of 17, LYZZA is a force to be reckoned with and has been described by Beatport as “one of electronic music’s most promising young avant-pop producers. With three EPs under her belt, her fourth project “MOSQUITO” strives toshow her range of abilities within sound and interdisciplinary art. The 10 track mixtape draws inspiration from mosquitoes and the psychological associations we have with them. Characteristically, mosquitoes are invasive and take up space, and this is something that LYZZA strives to be as an artist of colour.

Inspired by travelling the world and exploring sounds globally just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic while consuming everything from the likes of Lil Peep to Jammer and Dutch electronic trio Noisia, 'Anomaly' is set to be a cohesive journey of far-off adventures, self-discovery and electronic wizardry. But amongst the enticing tunes, the album is also aligned with What So Not's dedication to important non-music issues, with What So Not recently announced as a finalist for the Environmental Music Prize. Ultimately, immersive adventures overseas not only helped What So Not flex his creative muscles before heading back home to craft his newly-announced full length-album; they also helped shape his ongoing dedication to raising awareness for issues close to his heart, as he concludes, 'Spending time in so many different countries, communities and cultures was such a reality check. We are so fractured and preconditioned to falsities. We have to care about our community and environment, and do what we can in our own circles to collectively protect and benefit everything outside of it. I spent a year travelling the world and exploring sounds. COVID then had me back home, honing in and refining my sonic comprehension. 'Anomaly' is a journey that ruptures reality in order to realise the potential of our own existence. It'll also feature some of the greatest friends and sound experimenters that I've come across in my life'.

Phantasy has always found its artist family in unexpected corners of the world, and the music of Ruby Goon is no exception. The label’s latest signing unexpectedly emerges from a previously bustling underground of live music in Moscow, formed and led by Ivan Solimani-Leznhev, a strikingly independent and self-determined young singer-songwriter. Colourful and vulnerable, the music of Ruby Goon soulfully blends early psychedelia, glam and indie rock. These influences were soulfully crystalised when studying in the United States of America. Accompanying his father, a television cameraperson posted in Washington, D.C. Solimani-Leznhev found himself culturally removed from his native Moscow, Russia, yet suddenly geographically aligned with an earnest, melodic legacy of rock, rhythm and blues. When Solimani-Leznhev eventually returned to his homeland, he set about recruiting seven multi-instrumentalist friends, each tasked with bringing the particular sound in his head to life. Soon, under his visionary direction, Ruby Goon quickly cemented their reputation and popularity as a live band with a unique, magic touch. Brand New Power, the debut album from Ruby Goon, collects these early works into an impressive volume that documents a body of warm-hearted, mature songwriting blessed with the sort of youthful energy that’s difficult to recapture and impossible to resist; that ‘Brand New Power’ that gives the album its title.

Behavior is a band from Los Angeles, comprised since 2012 of Bedros Yeretzian, Evan Burrows, and Justin Tenney. Their collaboration is a shifting ad hoc agreement, organized around a permissive sensibility that is anchored to consistency of image rather than genre myopia. Their music continues to map a line of departure, a stumbling movement in restless hopscotch across a pop music tradition that has tallied an unlivable inheritance of promises. Spirits & Embellishments is their third LP, and their first with the label Post Present Medium, which is newly revived after a short pause. The record is preceded by last year's self-released EP Shithead Apology, and two LPs- Bitter Bitter (2017) and 375 Images of Angels (2016), both of which were released on the seminal West Coast punk label Iron Lung Records. Spirits & Embellishments was written in a small, shared practice space in Los Angeles, rented at a cost of $139.34 per month. The lyrics were compiled and composed collaboratively on a shared document hosted on a proprietary cloud- an assembled repository of original and found language, a record of the intellectual and emotional meanderings of three different people over a limited period of time. Spirits & Embellishments features guest Side A performances by Evan Backer, Sophie Weil, Nicole Antonia Spagnola and Robert Cody. The album was recorded and mixed over roughly five days by Greg Hartunian, Robert Cody and Behavior at Tropico Beauty in Glendale, CA. Spirits & Embellishments is a brush fire, hungry for oxygen, choking the dry air with lavender, sage, and melting plastic. The tools are simple, the atmosphere is stark, the space is literal. These are tactile rock n roll songs, shaped at root by the extreme techniques of punk in all it's groping permutations. These songs are lengths of multichrome climbing rope coiled like snakes, brought to life by way of melodrama, and contemporary in their free association. They were conceived with irreverence for the distinction between Crass and The Rolling Stones, to leverage the evaporating space of antagonism between first wave post-punk and it's commercially unambivalent counterparts. The method was ultimately functional: rounding and smearing over the vacant face of rote angularity, leaning into craft in an attempt to outmode what's simply been accounted for. There's a desire for tension, a desire for fraudulent postures, for both intimacy and dis- tance. A tedious attachment to control and good taste. An invitation to derangements. A principled approach that feels honest. A blood flow, a double-hearted circulation between contempt and care, working the body at an urgent pulse.

What happens when you arrive to a party and everyone is leaving as you are walking in If a bass drum booms in the woods but no one is around to hear it, does it even boom at all Can you build a mansion with playing cards Nick Klein returns to ALTER with the cryptically biographical No Shortage of Rope , his third release for the label and significantly, potentially his first full length album. Consisting of 7 tracks, No Shortage of Rope is a consolidated collection of recordings Klein made after leaving his long-term base of NYC to become a full-time resident of Den Haag, Netherlands. Using some newfound free time post-move, Klein wanted to approach his working process in the studio a little differently to create something long form, something that felt more like an album as opposed to being built with the club music paradigm as a given. Describing his time in the studio, Klein says it was 'the most hermetic studio endeavour I have ever undertaken'. It certainly seems that Klein harnessed this period of productivity to make the most of what his music could offer as No Shortage of Rope is the man in his most pointedly pure form. As an artist Klein has followed his own path around the fringes of the contemporary American underground without much worry of where he may end up as a result. This has led the majority of his work to be best contextualised by the rough beat-music associated with artists like Beau Wanzer, Shane English or Container and the celebratory unpretentious world of noise. Opening track Sitting In Glass sets an irreverent foundation with gratuitous chainsaw-like synth noise that sucks the air immediately out of the room. If this is a record made without the club in mind, then we're made aware fairly quickly. The subsequent tracks are more or less Klein back at the office in beat-based terrain, but with some noticeable differences
