A major publishing event--a beautiful, comprehensive collection of
the lyrics of Bob Dylan with artwork from thirty-three albums,
edited and with an introduction by Christopher Ricks.
As it was well put by Al Kooper (the man behind the organ on "Like
a Rolling Stone"), "Bob is the equivalent of William Shakespeare.
What Shakespeare did in his time, Bob does in his time."
Christopher Ricks, editor of T. S. Eliot, Samuel Beckett, Tennyson,
and The Oxford Book of English Verse, has no argument with Mr.
Kooper's assessment, and Dylan is attended to accordingly in this
authoritative edition of his lyrics.
In the words of Ricks: "For fifty years, all the world has
delighted in Bob Dylan's books of words and more than words:
provocative, mysterious, touching, baffling, not-to-be-pinned-down,
intriguing, and a reminder that genius is free to do as it chooses.
And, again and again, these are not the words that he sings on the
initially released albums."
This edition changes things, giving us the words from officially
released studio and live recordings, as well as selected variant
lyrics and revisions to these, recent revisions and retrospective
ones; and, from the archives, words that, till now, have not been
published.
"The Lyrics," edited with diligence by Christopher Ricks, Lisa
Nemrow, and Julie Nemrow. As set down, as sung, and as sung again.
Rhapsody in Blue received its premiere in a concert entitled 'An
Experiment in Modern Music' held on the 12th February 1924 in the
Aeolian Hall, New York, by Paul Whiteman and his band with Gershwin
playing the piano. This version is for piano solo and was made by
the composer himself in 1927.
for soloists, SATB, children's chorus and orchestra with Chinese
flute and erhu This opera in four acts is based on an ancient
Chinese myth about a snake-shaped spirit that attains human form to
experience love. The English libretto by Cerise Lim Jacobs
sensitively adapts the story for modern audiences, and Zhou Long's
music uses both Western and Chinese sounds to create a pioneering
cross-cultural opera. Long was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for
Music for Madame White Snake, and the Pulitzer jury described the
work as 'a deeply expressive opera that draws on a Chinese folk
tale to blend the musical traditions of the East and the West.'
Madame White Snake was first staged by Opera Boston on 26 February
2010 at the Culter Majestic Theatre, Boston, USA, and received its
first Chinese staging at the Beijing International Festival on 10
October 2010, Beijing, China.
Lyrics and guitar chords for nearly 1,200 songs are arranged in a
compact, easy-to-use format in this comprehensive collection. Folk

labor, and the environment are among the types of songs included.
This revised and retypeset large-print version of the enormously
popular songbook makes this essential resource easy to read and
useful in leading large and small groups.

The Viola da Gamba Society Thematic Index of Music for Viols (ed.
Gordon Dodd), 1980-92 (and continuing), is composer-based. The
present volume initiates a companion project to catalogue
manuscripts containing consort music. The editors are all highly
experienced in the field and have newly examined all sources.
Volume 1 features over 50 MSS whose copyists or owners are known:
Bing, Hutton, Jenkins, Le Strange, Lilly, Merro, North. As well as
a detailed inventory of every book (with anonymous work identified
where possible), the descriptions include information on date,
size, binding, paper, rastra, watermarks, collations, scripts,
inscriptions and provenance, together with bibliographical
references. Brief notes on the owners and copyists are provided. Of
particular importance is the inclusion of facsimiles of all hands.
Also included is a comprehensive study and illustration of
watermarks by Robert Thompson (serving for the whole series). With
some printed catalogues such as the British Library and Christ
Church, Oxford, now nearly 100 years old, this new and
comprehensive study will be an invaluable tool for future research.
for CCBar, piano, and opt. alto sax Red Boots On is a funky setting
of a poem by Kit Wright, brought to life by Chilcott's jazzy chords
and groovy syncopated rhythms. The melody begins in unison and
grows in texture throughout the piece, and is accompanied by a
characterful piano part. This new arrangement for cambiata voices
also includes an optional alto saxophone part. Also available in a
version for upper voices and piano.

for SATB and organ Setting a section from The Blessed Virgin
Compared to the Air we Breathe by Gerard Manley Hopkins, this
Marian piece opens with an extended soprano passage, underpinned by
soft yet characterful organ writing. Several hallmarks of Jackson's
style are evident, including soaring, melismatic soprano lines,
sonorous harmonies, and repeated organ motifs. The result is a
captivating and emotive work for church and concert use.

With a voice that Pitchfork has called "as scratchy as a three-day
beard yet as supple and pliable as moccasin leather," former
Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age vocalist Mark Lanegan
draws frequent comparisons to wounded masters of doom like Tom
Waits, Nick Cave, and Leonard Cohen. But Lanegan's talents aren't
limited to his vocal skills. His lyrics are on par with the best of
them, exploring with Blakeian insight the stark and scorched
emotional terrain that exists somewhere beyond sadness, addiction,
trauma, and spiritual longing. Now, for the first time ever, the
reclusive singer presents a comprehensive look at his lyrics, the
stories behind them, and the making of his albums as well as
photos, insights, and ephemera from a long career in rock 'n' roll,
I Am the Wolf gives fans a rare and candid glimpse into the inner
workings of a living-and singular-rock legend.
