Knee Ligament Injuries - Extraarticular Surgical Techniques (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Roberto Rossi, Fabrizio Margheritini Knee Ligament Injuries - Extraarticular Surgical Techniques (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Roberto Rossi, Fabrizio Margheritini
R3,828 Discovery Miles 38 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Knee ligament injuries are very common and are frequently sports related, although they may arise from trauma experienced during everyday activities. This book provides in-depth descriptions of the extra articular surgical techniques that may be employed when performing ligament reconstruction in patients with injuries involving the posterolateral and posteromedial corners of the knee. It is intended as a practical, "how to" manual that will be of value for both the trainee and the more experienced surgeon. Many of the techniques relate to the central pivot of the knee, i.e. the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. For each technique, indications, presurgical planning, postsurgical follow-up and complications are discussed in addition to the surgical details. Numerous tips and pearls are provided and the techniques are clearly depicted in informative high-quality illustrations.

Complex Fractures of the Limbs - Diagnosis and Management (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): E Carlos Rodriguez-Merchan, Juan Carlos... Complex Fractures of the Limbs - Diagnosis and Management (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
E Carlos Rodriguez-Merchan, Juan Carlos Rubio-Suarez
R3,987 Discovery Miles 39 870 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides up-to-date guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of the most important complex fractures of the limbs, including fractures of the proximal and distal humerus, fractures and dislocations of the elbow, fractures of the distal radius, pelvis, acetabulum, distal femur, proximal tibia, tibial pilon, calcaneus and osteoporotic knee fractures. The most complex articular fractures are analyzed, soft tissue coverage is reviewed, and the management of open fractures and nonunions is described and illustrated. Other chapters consider damage control management and immediate bone fixation in the polytrauma patient, skeletal reconstruction and rehabilitation of complex fractures of the limbs. The book offers guidance to orthopaedic surgeons on which treatment options afford the best preservation of fully functional joints around the fractured bone. With this goal in mind, the authors have developed strategies that can restore full articular function of the limbs in both the short and the long term. Complex Fractures of the Limbs will be an invaluable aid to orthopaedic surgeons in treating patients with this very common and important clinical problem.

Deformity Correction in Total Knee Arthroplasty (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Arun B. Mullaji, Gautam M. Shetty Deformity Correction in Total Knee Arthroplasty (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Arun B. Mullaji, Gautam M. Shetty
R4,495 Discovery Miles 44 950 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

With rapid advancement in technology and materials in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), long-term survival and function of the total knee is now more and more dependent on restoring accurate limb alignment, precise component position and optimum soft-tissue balance. Proper technique is key to ensuring this and is all the more crucial and challenging to achieve in arthritic knees with severe and complex deformities. Correction of such knee deformities forms an important part of TKA for orthopedic surgeons working in both emerging and developed nations. Deformity Correction in Total Knee Arthroplasty fills the void that exists in treating severe and complex knee deformities and the use of computer-navigation in TKA. It covers the principles of deformity correction and soft-tissue balancing in primary TKA in an illustrative, step-wise and algorithmic fashion. Starting with the initial key step of preoperative planning, this book goes on to specifically describe how to deal with different types of deformities encountered in patients who undergo TKA - varus, valgus, flexion, hypertension, rotational and extra-articular deformities - as well as the stiff knee, the unstable knee, osteotomies in primary TKA and postoperative pain management and rehabilitation. This focused how-to manual includes plentiful images and clear, concise text from authors who have performed thousands of TKAs, making it a must-have reference for any surgeon unfamiliar or frequently confronted with this type of procedure.

Essentials In Elbow Surgery - A Comprehensive Approach to Common Elbow Disorders (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Samuel Antuna, Raul... Essentials In Elbow Surgery - A Comprehensive Approach to Common Elbow Disorders (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Samuel Antuna, Raul Barco
R5,260 Discovery Miles 52 600 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The idea of this book is very simple. Nowadays, there are many good, very comprehensive, "thick" books available on Elbow Surgery. Although they are useful to obtain discrete information about specific topics, they are too large to be a user friendly for a general orthopedic surgeon facing common elbow problems. The increasing interest among young surgeons on elbow problems is remarkable. It has been our experience throughout the years, teaching our residents and visitors, that there is a real demand for a less extensive book, easy to read, and with practical information about the most commonly encountered problems of the elbow. This text would be enough to understand the common elbow practice for a general orthopedic surgeon and a guide to learn basic elbow surgery during training. There is nothing like this available today. It will be strongly oriented to practice, and all the authors, well known internationally for their expertise on elbow surgery, will be homogeneous in their message.

Minimally Invasive Spinal Deformity Surgery - An Evolution of Modern Techniques (Hardcover, 2014): Michael Y. Wang, Yi Lu, D.... Minimally Invasive Spinal Deformity Surgery - An Evolution of Modern Techniques (Hardcover, 2014)
Michael Y. Wang, Yi Lu, D. Greg Anderson, Praveen V Mummaneni
R5,344 Discovery Miles 53 440 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Contemporary spinal surgeons, whether orthopedic or neurosurgeons, are increasingly recognizing minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) as a valuable option for managing advanced degenerative diseases. MISS techniques minimize blood loss and surgical site pain, while speeding recovery. Thus, the combination of MISS with adult spinal deformity was a natural choice. Currently, the techniques, technologies, and education of surgeons have finally reached a point where MISS deformity surgeries are becoming commonplace. Nevertheless, the field is young enough (and still evolving) that no comprehensive texts have addressed the unique challenges it poses for surgeons. This book fills that gap.

Hypermobility of Joints (Paperback, 4th ed. 2012): Peter H Beighton, Rodney Grahame, Howard Bird Hypermobility of Joints (Paperback, 4th ed. 2012)

Practical Urology in Spinal Cord Injury (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1991): Keith F. Parsons, John M.... Practical Urology in Spinal Cord Injury (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1991)
Keith F. Parsons, John M. Fitzpatrick
R1,530 Discovery Miles 15 300 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In keeping with the aims of other books in this Series the Editors have concentrated on the practical aspects of management -in this case of the urinary tract in patients with spinal cord injury. It is well accepted that the management of such patients is best done by those with special experience in this field. Nevertheless, it is essential that urologists should be well informed on matters relating to the neuropathic urinary tract since not all patients will be managed in special centres and, whether their problems are acute or chronic, the wrong clinical decision can lead them into a lifetime of problems. The plan of this book is directed towards examining particular problems and providing definitive answers. Even in this enlightened age of medical progress there are many clinical situations where there is often a choice of treatment. Readers of this Series will be aware that, despite an apparent abundance of information on a topic, it is sometimes not possible to reach a firm conclusion on a management problem. Keith Parsons and John Fitzpatrick are to be congratulated on ensuring that for this subject there are good clear guidelines. The data in the book are up to date and the excellent approach to the subject makes it a valuable addition to Clinical Practice in Urology.

Developing Insights in Cartilage Repair (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Pieter J. Emans, Lars Peterson Developing Insights in Cartilage Repair (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Pieter J. Emans, Lars Peterson
R5,876 Discovery Miles 58 760 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This comprehensive book discusses cartilage repair and all its aspects. These aspects vary from basic insights in cartilage biology and regeneration via MRI, to results of existing cartilage repair techniques and upcoming novel approaches. Fundamental cartilage biology is the topic covered within the first chapters of the book. These chapters not only provide an insight in healthy, damaged and regenerative cartilage but also describe developments in gene therapy and methods to enhance chondrogenesis of stemcells and prevent hypertophic differentiation. There is a huge progress in the possibilities of MR imaging of both healthy, damaged and regenerative cartilage. These developments not only enable better monitoring of cartilage repair but may also unravel the pathophysiology of the development of cartilage defects. Different cartilage repair techniques (e.g. allografts, autologous chondrocytes transplantation [ACT], microfracture), there technical aspects (e.g. developments towards an total arthroscopic approach), pitfalls, and outcomes are reported in the following chapters. In these chapters factors important for the results of cartilage repair such as meniscal repair, patient factors are described. Finally, an overview of novel cartilage repair techniques such as minced cartilage, denovo cartilage and more areas are discussed in this comprehensive addition to the literature.

The ACL-Deficient Knee - A Problem Solving Approach (Hardcover, 2013 ed.): Vicente Sanchis-Alfonso, Joan Carles Monllau The ACL-Deficient Knee - A Problem Solving Approach (Hardcover, 2013 ed.)
Vicente Sanchis-Alfonso, Joan Carles Monllau
R5,414 Discovery Miles 54 140 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book approaches the ACL deficient knee from a different perspective than those of the previous classical ways. The common approach is the analysis of closed compartments; anatomy, biomechanics, physical findings, imaging, surgical treatment and rehabilitation. The approach of this book is completely opposite, focusing on questions, controversies, problem analyses and problem solving, besides analyzing the possibility of prevention. Therefore, in each chapter, the biomechanics, anatomy, and other areas that are relevant to the topic are reviewed. There are chapters where highly specialized surgical techniques are presented (acute ACL repair, double bundle reconstruction, chondral lesions treatment or meniscal transplant). These chapters are written by internationally renowned specialists that are pioneers in the topic analyzed. Another interesting aspect of this book are the step by step surgical techniques videos, that will allow a knee specialist to perform the technique presented by the author. Moreover, the videos will include anatomy and physical therapy techniques.

John Charnley - The Man and the Hip (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1990): William Waugh John Charnley - The Man and the Hip (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1990)
William Waugh
R3,732 Discovery Miles 37 320 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Hip replacement operations have become commonplace during the past ten years, but none the less it is well to remember the struggle to overcome the initial difficulties before the achievement of the successful results which are confidently expected today. Certainly, in the 1950s attempts to relieve pain and restore movement to an arthritic hip frequently failed. Such operations which were practised often involved a prolonged period of immobilisation which would now not be tolerated. For progress to be made orthopaedic surgeons had to rely on the loyalty and stoicism of their patients who allowed untried procedures to be carried out on themselves, often without appreciating the possible outcome. These surgical experiments resulted in progress being made, and the failures led to a greater understanding of the problems involved. The importance of collaboration with bio-engineers was also recognised, and the search began for suitable materials with which to make an artificial joint. Progress was made in many centres throughout the world, and surgeons in the United Kingdom were at the forefront in devising original techniques. Although others also produced new models, John Charnley was a pioneer and an innovator who influenced the development of hip relacement more than any other individual. In telling the story of his life this book is inevitably also the story of the operation, but it is not intended to be a scientific evaluation of his work.
