Cave Dance is inspired by Flamenco dance performances the author
experienced while in Malaga, Spain. The dramatic, flamboyant, and
virtuosic performances take place in the Sacromonte district caves
which have been converted into Romani entertainment venues. This
piece is derived from recordings the author made featuring various
combinations of folk dances that are strung together into a
performance. Hence, the constantly shifting tempos and feels that
occur within the piece. Some of the dances featured female dancers
and some male; some were with instrumental accompaniment and others
just with hand claps or castanets.
This book is a catalogue of the idiophones acquired by the
Department of the Near East of the British Museum since the
mid-nineteenth century. It includes clay rattles principally from
Ur, dating from the third millennium BC; shell clappers; copper and
bronze clappers and cymbals from Nimrud and from other prestigious
locations and a remarkable collection of bronze bells mainly from
Nimrud, unearthed by Layard around 1850. The book gives an accurate
description of the objects along with former references and a
comprehensive bibliography.
Starts with basics like how to set up the drums, hold the sticks
and read music. Teaches rock and jazz beats that make use of the
whole drumset, and covers improvisation, playing "time," and using
fills to connect ideas. The DVD provides every example in the book
performed by a live drummer. 48 pages.
This is the new official rudiment list as adopted by the Percussive

This programmatic percussion piece is a musical depiction of an
encounter between a woodpecker (woodblock) and a lumberjack

falling in a forest before introducing some simple call/response
figures between the woodblock and guiro. As the piece moves on,
these rhythms become more complex and involved with each other.

This book is designed to supplement any beginning percussion
method. It follows the same sequence of introduction of musical
concepts as most popular courses and therefore can be used with
equal success regardless of the core method being used. All
exercises can be played as solos, duets, and/or trios.
This unique collection of original sight-reading duets features a
challenging teacher's part as well as a simplified student part.
The teacher and student alternate playing the top line, enabling
the student to become familiar with a wider range of the instrument
without becoming accustomed to always playing one line or the
other. Mallet Duets for Student & Teacher is the ideal way to
teach sight-reading!
(Drum Instruction). Maracatu for Drumset and Percussion explores
the traditional Brazilian rhythms of the Maracatu de Baque Virado,
which originated in the Candomble religion but have expanded to
provide the rhythmic framework for a particularly exciting style of
music. Author Scott Kettner explores every aspect of this dynamic
genre, including: instruments of Maracatu de Baque Virado, changing
traditions of maracatu, traditional and contemporary maracatu
manifestations, drumset applications, New Orleans mambo, and more.
Master percussionist, bandleader, producer, and songwriter Scott
Kettner is the guiding force behind Nation Beat, a band whose
teeming, vibrant rhythms find common ground in the primal maracatu
rhythm of Brazil's northeastern region, the Big Easy's funky,
hypnotic second-line and strolling Mardi Gras Indians, and the
unfettered freedom of big-city downtown jazz. After graduating from
New York's New School University, Kettner moved to Brazil to learn
more about maracatu. With this book, he shares an accessible and
pragmatic approach to learning and understanding the instruments
and basic rhythms of Maracatu de Baque Virado and how to apply
these rhythms to drumset. (a href="https:

The simple setting of this well known tune was done in my first
year of working with the percussion ensemble at a Junior High
School. I had quite a few problems finding music suitable for their
level of development, so I wrote a simple arrangement for them for
the Holiday Season. We were lucky enough to have an Elementary
School as a feeder school that had hand bells, so the optional hand
bell introduction was written. It is arranged for 2 Bells parts,
Chimes and percussion.
A basic step-by-step method and study for the younger player:
including hand and foot independence studies, rock and roll beats,
and fill-in studies.
