Argentinean Tango originated in the poor neighbourhoods of Buenos
Aires at the end Of the nineteenth century, but quickly became one
of the worlds most popular dance styles. The great innovator Astor
Piazzolla, the King of Nuevo Tango, then rewrote the rulebook in
the 1950s creating a stunning new art form, which the Gotan Project
and other recently embraced for a new generation of chic young
music lovers. Shisha Sound System presents the best of this new
tango style, dubbed eletro-tango in Argentina. There are plenty of
homegrown acts vying for your attention, but also come captivating
hybrid numbers Arabic, Chinese, and Western influences, including a
stunning cover of New Orders seminal Blue Monday.
