This book is a reverent and interactive homage to David Bowie, with
dense illustrations of the many real and imagined universes of his
own making. Hidden somewhere on each of these double page spreads,
a Bowie is patiently waiting to be spotted by the well-trained eye
of a fan. As the chameleonic Bowie took on so many iconic personas
across his illustrious career, each moment is celebrated
chronologically in this book. You will have to find young and
dapper David Jones in 1960s Brixton; look for Ziggy Stardust in
spaced out Outer Space, crawling with Martian spiders and nestled
between the stars; then search for glam Bowie among the revellers
at Studio 54; and ask yourself, "is that the Thin White Duke
outside Hansa By the Wall in late-70s Berlin?" Each page of this
book is so laden with Bowie references that you might even pick up
a factoid or two in your search. With fun, detailed illustrations
that explore Bowie's world - and that of his influences - Where's
Bowie is the perfect guide to the cultural icon for both adults and
children. Plus, who doesn't want to raise their kid as a Bowie
super-geek? No one - that's who.

Part of an exciting series of sturdy, square-box 1000-piece jigsaw
puzzles from Flame Tree, featuring powerful and popular works of
art. This new jigsaw will satisfy your need for a challenge, with a
popular masterpiece of post impressionism, The Starry Night by Van
Gogh. This 1000 piece jigsaw is intended for adults and children
over 13 years. Not suitable for children under 3 years due to small
parts. Finished Jigsaw size 735 x 510mm/29 x 20 ins. Now includes
an A4 poster for reference. Van Gogh's famous painting was created
from memory during his extended term at the Asylum in Saint-Remy,
towards the end of his life, in 1889. Unlike many of his
masterpieces, very little is known about the motivations for this
piece because it is barely mentioned in the correspondence with his
brother Theo. The surviving letters from this period discuss, and
include preliminary sketches of, so many of his other works, but
there remains an air of mystery about its absence, perhaps
contributing to the success of the work in more recent times. The
Starry Night does capture the essence of Van Gogh's style, with its
strong, textured strokes, sweeping lines of movement, and the
exaggerated detail, all of which point to the anxious turmoil of
the artist's incarceration. The dark towering cypress tree to the
left of the painting overpowers the quiet settlement below, but is
itself dominated by the glowing orbs in the sky. The Starry Night
retains the impression of the world around us, but hints at the
emotions beyond and behind.

From New York magazine, a spiral-bound collection of fifty recently
published crosswords--plus a bonus one created by beloved American
composer Stephen Sondheim, the magazine's original puzzle
constructor, for its first issue in 1968. Every year, millions of
people attempt to complete a crossword puzzle, whether in print or
online. Recent studies have even shown that the actual number is
growing, owing to a rising public desire for less screen time and
more activities that keep brains active. A number of research
trials have found that regular crossword activity is among the most
effective ways to preserve memory and cognitive function, and a
recent trial from the NIH found that these benefits can last as
long as ten years. For fifty years, New York magazine has published
some of the most entertaining, addictive crossword puzzles in
America. This spiral-bound book collects fifty New York puzzles by
master puzzle creator Cathy Allis; adds a classic from the New York
archives, created by Stephen Sondheim in 1968; and puts them
together with a covered spiral binding for easy, stay-flat solving
and portability.
