Forging Freedom is the first full-length biography of Cerf Berr of Medelsheim (1726-1793), the formidable eighteenth-century emancipator of the French Jews. His early business providing forage for thousands of horses of the French military garrisoned in Alsace grew into a huge military supply business that earned him the profound respect of French Kings Louis XV and XVI. After receiving his French naturalization papers from Louis XVI as a reward for his service to the French Crown, Cerf Berr worked tirelessly on behalf of his Ashkenazi co-religionists to win their political emancipation in France on September 27, 1791.
This book is a disarming look into one man's faith journey that will penetrate your heart and infiltrate your concept of God, whatever that currently is, to show the unmistakable, the famous Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah, El Shaddai-the presence of the Almighty God-still alive and at work today in the life of one very ordinary man. The author shares the rawness of his journey with Christ through one of his life's great valleys and winds up following God eight thousand miles from home-only to find that God was up to more than he could have imagined. His story tugs at the heart of obedience in the small things, what it means to surrender your life to Christ, and what God might wind up doing with that through the process.

Much has been written about the miners who responded to the discovery of Gold in California, yet little has been said of the church and community leaders who came along with them. The life of William Brier is a forgotten story of one pioneer and Presbyterian minister who came to California to change the newly emerging society. This biography begins with his neglected tombstone, and works backward to recreate his colorful and controversial life history. He founded over 27 churches, shaped the California school system, stood up for law and order, and protected the rights of Chinese workers.
Using the backdrop of such far-flung places as the west coast of South Africa, the Highlands of Scotland, and the Eiffel Tower, the author introduces the reader to three people who entered and exited his life over twelve years: a gigantic Zulu he befriended during military training, a six-year-old African war orphan he sponsored in memory of that friend, and a twenty-four-year-old woman he met in Scotland. Follow the gripping and moving story of one man's search for God as well as his personal reflections on finding answers to the mysterious. Some say God moves in mysterious ways, but what the author reveals in this book is that God moves-period
Allow God to Heal Your Soul God is still in control in spite of the pains of the past. A-Nu-You is about letting go of the guilt, pain and unforgiveness of yourself and others. Finally you can be free from its bondage because God is still in control. He has a plan for your life. The pain is apart of the process. I lived a promiscuous life and had an abortion. It led to numerous complications and surgeries. Desperately needing God I surrendered and accepted Him as my Lord and Personal Savior. It is my desire that through my real life stories you are healed. It is my prayer that you would accept God as your Lord and Personal Savior. Forgiveness is what opens the door for God to come in. Philippians 1:6 "He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;"
Growing up in the Tennessee hills, Alvin York was equally renowned as a marksman and as a hard-drinking brawler. A dramatic New Year's conversion convinced him that killing was against God's will, and yet this shy, big-boned mountaineer singlehandedly dispatched two dozen Germans and captured 132 in the closing days of World War I. He earned the Medal of Honor and a ticker tape parade but refused to cash in on his fame, insisting "Uncle Sam's uniform ain't for sale." This succinct and gripping new account of Sgt. York's remarkable life includes details from exclusive interviews with the sergeant's three surviving children and information drawn from battlefield eyewitness reports and original film studio archives: fresh reminders of the legacy of one of America's great Christian patriots. We learn about life through the lives of others. Their experiences, their trials, their adventures become our schools, our chapels, our playgrounds. Christian Encounters, a series of biographies from Thomas Nelson Publishers, highlights important lives from all ages and areas of the Church through prose as accessible and concise as it is personal and engaging. Some are familiar faces. Others are unexpected guests. Whether the person is D.L. Moody, Sergeant York, Saint Nicholas, John Bunyan, or William F. Buckley, we are now living in the world that they created and understand both it and ourselves better in the light of their lives. Their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires uniquely illuminate our shared experience.
A deeply personal true story of one man’s spiritual odyssey and the unflagging faith which enabled him to survive the ordeal that wrenched his body and spirit to near collapse. Captured by a Russian army during World War II and convicted of being a “Vatican spy,” Jesuit Father Walter J. Ciszek spent twenty-three agonizing years in Soviet prisons and the labor camps of Siberia. Only through an utter reliance on God’s will did he manage to endure the extreme hardship. He tells of the courage he found in prayer—a courage that eased the loneliness, the pain, the frustration, the anguish, the fears, the despair. For, as Ciszek relates, the solace of spiritual contemplation gave him an inner serenity upon which he was able to draw amidst the “arrogance of evil” that surrounded him. Ciszek learns to accept the inhuman work in the infamous Siberian salt mines as a labor pleasing to God. And through that experience, he was able to turn the adverse forces of circumstance into a source of positive value and a means of drawing closer to the compassionate and never-forsaking Divine Spirit. He Leadeth Me is a book to inspire all Christians to greater faith and trust in God—even in their darkest hour. As the author asks, “What can ultimately trouble the soul that accepts every moment of every day as a gift from the hands of God and strives always to do his will?”
St. Thomas More, the light-hearted but heroic Chancellor of England, comes to life in this biography by Elizabeth M. Ince from the acclaimed "Vision Books" series of saints for youth 9 - 16 years old. Raised in the London of the late 1400's, Thomas was a bright student eager for knowledge. When serving as a page for Cardinal Morton, the Archbishop of Canterbury noticed his bright wit and sent him to Oxford. There young Thomas became a scholar of great repute, and later one of the greatest lawyers that England had ever seen. Going on to serve his King, Thomas More soon became one of Henry VIII's most trusted advisors. But then the unthinkable happened. King Henry VIII defied Rome and set himself up as the head of the Church in England, commanding all of his subjects to acknowledge him as such. Sir Thomas resigned as Chancellor rather than betray his faith, but his defiance came at a price. King Henry had him arrested and charged with treason. On July 6, 1535, Sir Thomas More was beheaded for high treason and became a martyr for the Church.
As a young African boy, Moroba, was called by God. He grew to adulthood, recognized the call from God on his life. Made several promises to serve God full time. Instead, he was content to work for the government of Kenya in the city of Kitale. But though Jefferson might have forgotten his promise, God did not. "The Turning Point" tells the remarkable story of Bishop Dr. Jefferson Nyatuka, a simple man who became God's catalyst for change in Africa. After Jefferson finally accepted God's call, he went to Bible college and became an ordained pastor. But his challenges didn't stop there. He suddenly found himself homeless and had no way to provide for his family. Yet God did not abandon him. Pastor Nyatuka kept the faith and waited for God's timing. Soon, he was able to build a church in Kayole, Calvary Covenant Centre. The church grew and Pastor Nyatuka witnessed several wonderful miracles. He traveled to the United States and preached in several churches, spreading the Gospel wherever he went. When he returned to Africa, he eventually became ordained as a bishop and continued to follow God, a calling he still follows to this day. Uplifting and full of hope, "The Turning Point" shares the intimate life of one of God's most faithful followers.
Once a skeptic of "Holy Encounters," Heidi Hollis shares her true story of four unexpected journeys with Jesus, which led her deep into the reality of His Presence among us today. Hollis shares how Jesus and His angels revealed glimpses of Heaven and Hell, even healing her physically of an incurable disease, leaving her with the utmost passion to share His inspiration with the world As humanly as possible and lacking a religious tongue, Hollis pours out her raw emotions with all of the errors, yet new understandings, which came with meeting someone she highly misunderstood when she heard claims of Jesus appearing to people around the world today. Hollis once thought that Jesus had traversed these lands long ago, never to be seen or heard from again-now, in admitting her error, she encourages others to hold their "J" for Jesus up in the air for all to see: Jesus Is No Joke "A raw outpouring of pure emotion from someone who is hardly a member of the clergy. She explains what she saw and pours out real, true emotion - with little political motivation that one so often hears from the ordained clergy. An inspiring and encouraging tale for spiritual people, "Jesus is No Joke: A True Story of an Unlikely Witness Who Saw Jesus" is a must for community library spirituality and Christian studies collections." James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief Midwest Book Review "Heidi's writing style simply drew me in-it's natural, refreshingly "real," and enthusiastic. Best of all, she has something to say. Her encounters with Jesus were riveting and inspiring and they conveyed, above all, the feeling of Jesus' reality. Heidi writes from her heart, her soul, and after reading this book, I felt that I knew her, appreciated her, and admired her courage. A must-read for those who seek the Light." Robert Becker/Editor, Pure Inspiration Magazine About the Author: Heidi Hollis has been heard by millions as an internationally known speaker on intriguing phenomena, from angels to aliens. She is also the author of Picture Prayers, The Secret War and is an occupational therapist, advice columnist and radio talk show host.
