The American Dream isn't a thing of the past, but a miracle of the
present. Now more than ever it's easy to focus on the divisions
that plague our nation. It may seem as if our best days are behind
us, but bestselling author and senator Tim Scott believes we have
yet to realize the fullness of our identity. We are in the midst of
a story that's still unfolding. And beautiful opportunities await.
In this powerful memoir, Scott recounts formative events of his
life alongside the inspiring stories of other Americans who have
risen above hardship and embodied the values that make our nation
great. Together these personal and inspirational accounts call
readers to embrace the mountaintops as well as the valleys on the
journey to a more perfect union; a path marked by optimism, hope,
and resolve; and a future characterized by endurance, unity, and
strength. Both a clear-eyed reckoning with our nation's failures
and an ode to its accomplishments, America, a Redemption Story
issues a clarion call for all of us to rise courageously to the
greatness within our reach.
John Foxe's ground-breaking chronicle of Christian saints and
martyrs put to death over centuries remains a landmark text of
religious history. The persecution of Christians was for centuries
a fact of living in Europe. Adherence to the faith was a great
personal risk, with the Roman Empire leading the first of such
persecutions against early Christian believers. Many were
crucified, put to the sword, or burned alive - gruesome forms of
death designed to terrify and discourage others from following the
same beliefs. Appearing in 1563, Foxe's chronicle of Christian
suffering proved a great success among Protestants. It gave
literate Christians the ability to discover and read about brave
believers who died for expressing their religion, much as did Jesus
Christ. Perhaps in foretelling, the final chapter of the book
focuses upon the earliest Christian missions abroad: these, to the
Americas, Asia and other locales, would indeed see many more
martyrs put to death by the local populations.

What a journey! The 366 mariner metaphors were pulled from the
first 60 volumes of the 63-volume New Park Street Pulpit & The
Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, a set of 3,561 sermons delivered
between 1855-1872. We edited freely. More, it seems, than any other
metaphor, Charles H. Spurgeon used the mariner to illustrate the
voyage of the Christian in service to God. As the trade winds
bellow our sails and push us towards our Fair Haven, many spiritual
challenges wash our decks. One masterpiece after another. See

Andrew Fuller (1754-1815), perhaps the most prominent Particular
Baptist of the eighteenth century, has been the subject of much
scholarly interest in recent years. No comparative study, however,
has been done on the two biographies that give us much of our
knowledge of Fuller's life. John Ryland Jr. (1753-1826), Fuller's
closest friend and ministry partner, not only supervised the
publication of Fuller's works, but sought to give a careful
accounting of his friend's piety. But Ryland's volume stood in
contrast with the less-flattering portrait painted by publisher and
pastor, J.W. Morris (1763-1836). This critical edition of Ryland's
1816 biography provides contextual background and comparative
analysis of the two volumes, and shows how Ryland amended his text
for its 1818 republication in light of Morris' work. It also
demonstrates the profound influence of Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)
on Ryland's biographical approach. While Edwards's influence on
Ryland and Fuller is widely known, this volume shows how Edwards's
biographical work, especially that of David Brainerd, influenced
Ryland's aim to promote "pure and undefiled religion" through
recounting the life of his friend.
The ministry of Samuel Howells and the Bible College of Wales (BCW)
have touched the lives of countless numbers of people all over the
world. The author invites us on a lifelong journey with Samuel, to
unveil his ministry at the College, life of prayer and the support
he received from numerous staff, students and visitors, as the
history of BCW unfolds alongside the Vision to reach Every Creature
with the Gospel. The hardback and paperback editions also includes
more than 110 black and white photos, which are interspersed
throughout the book.
In 1950, Samuel became Director of BCW when his father Rees
Howells was taken into glory and he led the work for the next
fifty-two years; living a life of faith and intercession. Samuel
lived through a time of tumultuous change in the world, and oversaw
the work of the Bible College and Emmanuel Grammar School as it
sailed through six challenging decades. Filled with 113 Black and
white photographs, with many from the time of Rees Howells, this
biography remains as a historical record of the life of a great man
of God, Samuel Howells, the Director of BCW, its four estates,
school, and its worldwide ministry.
Richard Maton worked under Samuel's ministry for forty-seven years
and provides us with a firsthand account of Samuel's life and the
inner workings of BCW, with its staff and friends. Richard was
converted under the preaching of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones and was
called to the College in 1956 after hearing Leonard Ravenhill
preaching at BCW. He has served in various roles as teacher,
lecturer, dean, trustee and Principal of the College and worked
closely alongside Samuel for more than twenty years. Richard is
married to Kristine who joined the College family in 1936 and
provides valuable insights and additions to this story. Together
they spent more than 120 years at BCW
"This book is a must read for anyone who is, or has faced
physical or emotional trails in their life. It will not only
encourage you, it will help you find hope." Craig Caster - Founder,
Family Discipleship Ministries
"Tim's book is a journey of loss that is heartbreaking. But more
than that, it's a journey of redemption, hope and salvation. He's
honest about what he's gone through and what it takes to live with
NF2, his particular condition. But Tim has dug deep into his
relationship with God and testifies of the sustaining grace for
life and how God's promises keep him positive and focused. I say
this not only from reading Tim's book, but from seeing him in the
front row at church as I preach, from having coffee at Starbucks
and talking church, Bible and mission.
Tim's deepest desire is to be used by the God he loves to help
people connect with Jesus and develop that kind of faith that he
KNOWS FROM FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE will sustain you through all that
life may bring.
You will enjoy this book. You will be moved by this book. Mostly
you will be challenged by this book." Ed Noble - Lead Pastor,
Journey Community Church
As evidenced by the poignant life story of Victor Baugh, the
Anchor truly has held against overwhelming circumstances. From
birth till the present time, Victor has learned what it means to
overcome. His unique expression sets him apart for Kingdom work,
and he unashamedly gets his message across all ethnic and social
lines, not concerning himself with his own popularity with the
powers that be, but mindful of the One he serves.
I've kept up with Victor through the years since 1996 when he
was a doctoral student at Bethany, and as I read this very special
spiritual success story, I am reminded of just how far he has come
in the Lord's work. Carl W. Warden, D.S.T., Ph.D. Administrative

Arthur Osborne has packed into this small volume all of the
essential information relating to the life and teachings of
Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi (1879-1950). The extraordinary
teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi continue to bless the lives of
countless seeking souls, and his life fills us with wonder. As a
teenager-hardly seventeen-he realized the Self through a
spontaneous act of Self-enquiry without conscious effort or special
training imparted by a teacher. He left his home (at Madurai) in
1896 and came to Arunachala (Tiruvannamalai), where he lived as an
all-renouncing sage in a state of continuous Self-realization for
fifty-four years-until his mahanirvana in 1950. The author includes
in this volume instructions given by Sri Ramana to early devotees,
such as Sivaprakasam Pillai, Frank Humphreys, Kavyakanta, Natesa
Mudaliar, and others, as well as the experiences of Paul Brunton
and other later devotees. Sri Maharshi's central message is that
Self-knowledge is not something to be acquired afresh. It is only
becoming aware of one's own natural state of Pure Being, through
Self-enquiry. Arthur Osborne (1906-1970) was an ardent devotee of
Sri Ramana Maharshi and particularly well known as founder-editor
of The Mountain Path, the spiritual journal of Sri Ramanasramam.
After completing his studies at Oxford, he moved first to Poland,
then to Bangkok, where he lectured at Chulalonghorn University and
through a friend learnt about French metaphysician Rene Guenon,
whose works dealt comprehensively with Hindu metaphysics,
eventually translating into English his Crisis of the Modern World.
He later spent four years as a prisoner of war of the Japanese
before being united with his family, who were waiting at Sri
Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamalai. He spent the remainder of his life
there, writing about Sri Ramana and related subjects. He died in
1970, his body much weakened by the effect of his years in the
concentration camp.
European Pentecostalism was fortunate in having the wise and
balanced leadership of the evangelical Anglican Alexander Boddy at
its disposal during the formative years of the early 1900s. This
wellresearched and vivid book tells the story of how Boddy helped
to define the doctrine and stance of the first generation of
Pentecostals. Wakefield brings to life the vigorous discussion of
charismata that occupied the minds of early Spiritfilled believers.
He charts Boddys training, explains his beliefs and his
spirituality, records his personal and pastoral work in
northeastern England and explains the style and direction of his
leadership. Boddy was an important figure, even a great man and now
for the first time a fulllength biography of his life and work is
available.
Gertha Rogers is a multi-talented woman who gave her heart to
prison inmates and staff for 25] years in the Texas prison system,
earning the title, Queen of Prison Ministry. This timeless
heartwarming story will surely become a classic in the literature.
How much we need her and her kind is also placed inside the context
of the state and national literature on in-prison programming,
re-entry, and rehabilitation - where she has helped pave the way. A
jewel of a story.
