As a young African boy, Moroba, was called by God. He grew to adulthood, recognized the call from God on his life. Made several promises to serve God full time. Instead, he was content to work for the government of Kenya in the city of Kitale. But though Jefferson might have forgotten his promise, God did not. "The Turning Point" tells the remarkable story of Bishop Dr. Jefferson Nyatuka, a simple man who became God's catalyst for change in Africa. After Jefferson finally accepted God's call, he went to Bible college and became an ordained pastor. But his challenges didn't stop there. He suddenly found himself homeless and had no way to provide for his family. Yet God did not abandon him. Pastor Nyatuka kept the faith and waited for God's timing. Soon, he was able to build a church in Kayole, Calvary Covenant Centre. The church grew and Pastor Nyatuka witnessed several wonderful miracles. He traveled to the United States and preached in several churches, spreading the Gospel wherever he went. When he returned to Africa, he eventually became ordained as a bishop and continued to follow God, a calling he still follows to this day. Uplifting and full of hope, "The Turning Point" shares the intimate life of one of God's most faithful followers.

'A sickly child not expected to survive, a chubby teenager and a binge-eating bride? The unlikely beginnings of a health and fitness legend.' Daily Express 'A story of glamour, success and achievement, mixed with vulnerability, near-despair and searing honesty.' Rob Parsons OBE The doctor's voice is sad but firm: 'I'm very sorry, but I have to tell you that your little girl is unlikely to reach her 10th birthday.' Years later, having defied the odds and become a teenager, the same girl discovers a medical report that tells her, to her horror, she is overweight. That was the moment the young Rosemary Conley decided to change her life. After leaving school at 15, training as a secretary and working as a Tupperware dealer, Rosemary started her own slimming classes in 1972 with an investment of just GBP8. In 1983 she published the first of 36 books that were to sell in their millions around the world, alongside millions more of her fitness videos, while also starring in her own TV shows on BBC and ITV. She became, in short, one of the most popular and successful diet and fitness experts the world has seen. But Rosemary's life was not to be one of unbounded achievement and success. As well as the good times there were dark and distressing times, and here she tells of the sorrows and setbacks that were to come - as well as the joy she found, and still finds, in helping people live longer, healthier and happier lives.
James Rendel Harris (1852-1941) was one of the most prolific and influential New Testament scholars of his time. He opened new paths in textual criticism, brought to light hitherto lost early Christian writings and gathered major collections of Syriac manuscripts and Greek papyri. An introductory essay sketches Rendel Harris's life and works, while the rest of the book collects published essays and unpublished lectures and letters written by Rendel Harris over a span of 50 years, providing an essential picture of his scholarship. The papers include a lively and first-hand account of the controversies over the Hort-Westcott Greek New Testament; the suggestion of using mathematical devices for reconstructing New Testament autographs; the finding of the only known Diatessaronic reading in a Greek New Testament; the account of Rendel Harris's initial 'discovery' of testimonia collections and his two last daring essays on the topic; one of the first proposals of a wisdom hymn lying behind John's prologue; and, finally, an entertaining guide for the manuscript hunter. The personal correspondence at the end of the volume throws light on the driving forces of Rendel Harris's scholarship and on his own assessment of his work on the testimonia. The goal of his studies was to draw attention to new or little-explored topics and to provoke his colleagues to carry out fresh research on what they had overlooked. This collection aims at the same goal.
The black heart of human exploitation and the brave few seeking change A child is sold for sex every ten miles on Brazil's BR-116 motorway. This 2,700-mile road is "The Highway to Hell" for the thousands of children, some as young as nine, who are trapped in sophisticated child prostitution rackets organized by businessmen and politicians. An experienced journalist, Matt Roper has witnessed the extent of the trafficking firsthand. Highway to Hell documents his journey on this road. He meets the girls and hears their stories; he interviews truck drivers, pimps, brothel owners, and traffickers; and talks to the brave souls who are trying to make a difference. Part documentary, part personal memoir, Matt honestly shares his struggles to understand what his Christian faith has to say about the things he encounters and how God wants him to respond.
Once a skeptic of "Holy Encounters," Heidi Hollis shares her true story of four unexpected journeys with Jesus, which led her deep into the reality of His Presence among us today. Hollis shares how Jesus and His angels revealed glimpses of Heaven and Hell, even healing her physically of an incurable disease, leaving her with the utmost passion to share His inspiration with the world As humanly as possible and lacking a religious tongue, Hollis pours out her raw emotions with all of the errors, yet new understandings, which came with meeting someone she highly misunderstood when she heard claims of Jesus appearing to people around the world today. Hollis once thought that Jesus had traversed these lands long ago, never to be seen or heard from again-now, in admitting her error, she encourages others to hold their "J" for Jesus up in the air for all to see: Jesus Is No Joke "A raw outpouring of pure emotion from someone who is hardly a member of the clergy. She explains what she saw and pours out real, true emotion - with little political motivation that one so often hears from the ordained clergy. An inspiring and encouraging tale for spiritual people, "Jesus is No Joke: A True Story of an Unlikely Witness Who Saw Jesus" is a must for community library spirituality and Christian studies collections." James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief Midwest Book Review "Heidi's writing style simply drew me in-it's natural, refreshingly "real," and enthusiastic. Best of all, she has something to say. Her encounters with Jesus were riveting and inspiring and they conveyed, above all, the feeling of Jesus' reality. Heidi writes from her heart, her soul, and after reading this book, I felt that I knew her, appreciated her, and admired her courage. A must-read for those who seek the Light." Robert Becker/Editor, Pure Inspiration Magazine About the Author: Heidi Hollis has been heard by millions as an internationally known speaker on intriguing phenomena, from angels to aliens. She is also the author of Picture Prayers, The Secret War and is an occupational therapist, advice columnist and radio talk show host.
Why has Billy Graham, more than any other person, left his imprint on the religious life and history of our times? Why has a man who always cherished quiet conversations with ordinary people made international headlines as perhaps the world best-known "religious celebrity"? And how did Billy Graham stay free of the tarnishing Elmer-Gantry-type temptations of money and women? David Poling asks these and many other questions critics have often asked--and he offers answers as one who was an outspoken critic in the past but changed his mind and attitudes. Placing Billy Graham's life and ministry under the journalist's microscope, Poling examines the personal qualities and unchanging message that characterized the great evangelist. He also chronicles the triumphs and struggles of the Graham Crusades and other far-reaching ministries. Evaluating the man in the context of the global society of which Graham still remains so prominent a figure, Poling traces his ministry and its effects from the early days to his position of leadership and reveals why Billy Graham won his abiding respect and admiration and remains a shining example to be followed in his private and public life and conduct. DAVID POLING is author/co-author of fourteen books. He has been pastor to Presbyterian congregations in New York, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. His weekly syndicated column on faith and ethics appeared in 600 newspapers, with an audience of 17 million. Married to Ann Reid Poling, a Wooster College classmate(and known to others as "his favorite theologian") the couple has four grown children and eight grandchildren. Next book: "The Gospel According to the Apaches." |
