Continuing in the groundbreaking format of "Lessons from Armed
America" (co-written with Mark Walters and Kathy Jackson) "Lessons
from UN-armed America" brings everyday self-defense stories to
life. Mark Walters tells the story and Rob Pincus (one of the
world's greatest personal defense trainers) follows it with
analysis and commentary. You will learn from the experiences of
others and, with the benefit of hindsight and many years of study
and experience, the lessons you take away from this work may one
day save your life.
Distracted driving is a behaviour dangerous to drivers, passengers,
and non-occupants alike. Distraction is a specific type of
inattention that occurs when drivers divert their attention from
the driving task to focus on some other activity instead. Of those
people killed in distraction-affected crashes, 408 occurred in
crashes in which at least one of the drivers was using a cell phone
(13% of fatalities in distraction-affected crashes) at the time of
the crash. Use of a cell phone includes talking/listening to a cell
phone, dialling / texting a cell phone, or other cell-phone-related
activities. In keeping with the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration's distraction plan (Overview of the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration's Driver Distraction Program, April
2010, DOT HS 811 299), the agency continues to refine collection of
information about the role of distracted driving in police-reported
crashes. This book examines data gathered on specific distracting
activities to support the development of safety countermeasures and
to conduct improved data analysis.
Self-Defense is more than kicking and punching; more than "stranger
danger." It's also awareness, self esteem, body language and
emotional boundary setting. Most of the attacks on women are not by
strangers, but by someone they know. This unique approach to self
defense, along with the author's own experiences, will give women
and teen girls awareness skills to avoid a physical confrontation,
as well as valuable tools to defend themselves physically should
they be left with no alternatives. Rhonda Payne, a 7th Degree Black
belt, will take you on a journey from naive and vulnerable, to
confident and empowered. Find your own strengths and enhance your
everyday life by reducing your anxiety associated with interactions
with the outside world. Discover your inner black belt

the book equips readers to plan for and manage a multi-disciplinary
safety and emergency response team, including police, security,
medical, military, and fire and civil protection personnel.

scenarios, explaining what to do and what not to do for effective
emergency planning and response to CBRN and hazmat incidents. These
scenarios also set the foundation for preparedness training and
exercises.
Throughout the book, sidebars summarize the author's extensive
operational and managerial experience, helping readers focus on the
core tested and proven strategies and techniques needed to prevent
or mitigate the impact of a CBRN or hazmat incident. With its

It was a rough couple of years for the NBA's Minneapolis Lakers.
But at least the 1959-60 season had a promising start. Team owner
Bob Short had drafted college standout Elgin Baylor the year before
and was rebuilding his team around this future superstar. Adding a
new coach in the form of Jim Pollard along with a dose of hometown
enthusiasm had fans looking up. The team even bought an airplane so
they could play teams further away in the newly expanding NBA. Then
something happened, completely out of anyone's control, that almost
changed everything. On January 17, 1960 after a game in St. Louis,
the Lakers boarded their DC-3 for the flight home. Perhaps the
memory of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper perishing
in an Iowa cornfield only 11 months earlier had faded. In any case,
this flight would be like no other. For the first time in print,
the co-pilot of that flight, Harold Gifford, tells the real, full
story of what happened that almost wiped out the Lakers before that
NBA dynasty even had a chance to really get started.
Ever wonder how easy life would be if you didn't get suffocated
with anxiety, your heart didn't pound in your chest, and your
thoughts didn't race a mile a minute every time you had to step
onto a plane? Think you have no control over your fear of flying?
Think again. "Mindfulness Meditations for the Anxious Traveler
"reveals how you can calm your anxiety about traveling, cultivate
self-compassion, and gain control of your fears by quieting the
emotional brain and tapping into the rational brain. You can
approach your traveling challenges with greater ease. The secret is
in the spaces.
A leader in mindfulness psychology, Dr. Elisha Goldstein
demon-strates how to use the space between stimulus and response to
break free from habitual beliefs and thoughts that don't serve you.
These techniques will allow you to connect to the present moment to
make deep, permanent life changes. In essence, this book teaches
the foundation for how the now--this very moment--can change the
rest of your life.
To enhance and ease your experience, the text also contains links
to simple instructional videos.

It may start with a chance meeting or a casual smile. It could
begin at work, on a blind date, or at the end of a relationship or
a marriage. Every year, 3.4 million Americans are stalked by former
partners, by co-workers, by strangers. Despite these epidemic
numbers, all too often victims' complaints continue to be ignored.
Meanwhile, both the stalking dynamic and the toll it takes continue
to be misunderstood. National journalist, bestselling writer and
stalking expert Linden Gross provides all the necessary tools
readers need to know to handle inappropriate obsessive attention.
Readers will discover how to control their natural reactions (which
often put victims at a disadvantage), how to stop feeding the
obsessive interaction that perpetuates stalking situations, and how
to protect their privacy and safety. Gross explains how these
dangerous obsessions begin, the patterns they take, how targets can
protect themselves, and what potential victims can do before the
nightmare becomes a reality. Knowledge is power. Armed with
information and perspective, stalking victims can make the
decisions and choose the course of action that makes sense for
them. If you're a victim, Surviving a Stalker will teach you: How
to recognize and control actions and reactions that put you at risk
How to handle inappropriate attention online and off How to protect
your privacy and safety as well as the privacy and safety of your
loved ones How to break the stalking cycle and regain control of
your life If you're a professional who deal with stalking, the
multitude of case studies in Surviving a Stalker will provide you
with a clearer understanding of the crime and the devastating
impact it has on its targets. In addition to profiling stalkers and
their victims, Surviving a Stalker delves deeper into the subject,
offering critical insights on how best to handle stalking while
also covering police and legal issues, behavioral and psychological
patterns that lead to an escalation of violence. The author was
aided in her research by the prominent Los Angeles security
advisor, Gavin de Becker, who wrote the book's foreword. De Becker,
author of the national bestseller The Gift of Fear, is widely
regarded as our nation's leading expert on stalking. His work has
earned him three Presidential appointments, as well as a position
on a congressional committee on stalking.

If you want to be an effective leader--at any level--you should pay
attention to vision. Leaders who communicate a strong vision are
seen by their bosses and coworkers as more effective in several
important areas than those who do not. The content of your vision

articulation of the vision affects their perception of your
leadership effectiveness. Taken together, vision content and vision
articulation give your employees, colleagues, and other
stakeholders a powerful image of how good your organization is how
skilled you are as a leader.

Members of the genus Vibrio are natural habitants of the marine
environments. Many of them are human pathogens and can cause
illness associated with seafood consumption. Infections caused by
pathogenic vibrios are consistently reported in countries around
the world, which is a major food safety concern for consumers and
the food industry. Understanding the characteristics, virulence
factors, methods for detection, and strategies for prevention is
critical to minimize infection caused by vibrios. This book is a
comprehensive guide to the understanding of infectious vibrios and
application of control measures to prevent food-borne Vibrio
infections.
