So you had a stroke was berthed from my own stroke. While I was
still in rehabilitation, I wanted to produce something to help both
stroke victims and their families. I have taken some years to get
this written; I believe it will be a great source of help to those
people. Actually, I think every adult should read this book,
because our knowledge of Brain Injuries only comes when someone has
suffered; It is my hope to help prevent stroke.
The world is changing every day. It's not the relaxed, safe place
we once knew when we were children. These days, it is wise to
understand your surroundings, have better awareness and be able to
defend yourself if needed. Those who say, It always happens to
someone else, never me may regret those words if and when a tragedy
strikes. Having the confidence to face our new culture is important
for a happy and healthy life. The book includes: Effective
self-defense techniques explained in simple terms Easy to follow
pictures to help you practice at home Practical tips that can keep
you out of trouble Identification of vital targets and pressure
points to maximize effectiveness Master Mike Andrus has learned and
developed effective techniques from many years of training in
multiple styles of martial arts. For this book he has selected what
he feels to be the most effective practical self-defense techniques
for women to use to defend themselves against an attacker that may
be bigger and stronger. His book, seminars, classes and workshops
teach self-defense for individuals and their families. The training
includes practical techniques designed to properly defend against
attackers in a home invasion, car invasion and other scenarios
related to real-world violence. His street-proven self-defense
techniques also include awareness drills and tips to keep you out
of trouble. Keen awareness, practical self-defense techniques and
the confidence to protect yourself are necessary in today's world.
Staying in the Moment The concept of staying in the moment came
about from his research of how women generally respond to danger
events and why. Women have a flinch mechanism and usually close
their eyes and turn away from danger or perceived danger. This
reaction can cause a big problem, as you can guess Turning away
from something coming toward you can be very dangerous. You can't
see what is happening, and you won't be able to respond properly to
the situation. By understanding the reactions, Mr. Mike was able to
design his program to educate women and help them change the way
they respond and react to external encounters. The result is that
by using the principles he teaches, women are more confident and
more aware of their surroundings. They can also respond properly
and focus by staying in the moment to resolve the conflict. The
training involves some meditation, awareness drills, education,
self-defense and the element of surprise techniques, as well as
discussion about applying what you learn. Being able to apply what
you learn is KEY The results have been amazing. We are finding that
these principles and techniques can be used successfully in every
area of our life. Women (anyone for that matter) can utilize these
principles during medical exams, conversations with their boss or
coworkers, when traveling and even at home with family and friends.
The principles allow you to concentrate quickly and focus on what
needs to done at that very moment. The result could be the
difference between life and death What is interesting is that
staying in the moment is not always about conflict resolution. By
doing things with intent you can change the moment, the rest of
your day, or the rest of your life These principles help you focus,
do things with intent and get the results you desire. Wishing
everyone a Safe Day
This is a unique safety and self-defense book. Zombie Safety and
Self-Defense Handbook is designed to entice people, especially
young people, to read it BEFORE they run into trouble. It includes
a wide range of very practical ideas on how to avoid real monsters
in today's world. And people in college and beyond may actually
read it because it's not too melodramatic or morbid. High school
students can benefit too, if they are not easily offended by
references to alcohol, drugs, fighting, weaponry, and dating. It is
brief, readable, up-to-date, and appropriately irreverent. The
self-defense portion of the book is also different from other
books. It is intentionally designed to be very simple and very
practical. A person who practices the techniques is likely to
actually remember them and use them if trouble presents itself.
Research has shown that an effective way to reduce impaired driving
is to increase the perceived risk of being stopped and arrested by
law enforcement if driving while impaired. One of the most
successful strategies for doing this is the coupling of intense and
highly visible enforcement with publicity about the enforcement
campaign. The term "high-visibility enforcement" (HVE) is used to
describe law enforcement efforts aimed at deterring unsafe driving
behaviour by increasing the public's perception of being caught,
arrested, and prosecuted. Two common enforcement strategies of HVE
operations are sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols.
Checkpoints concentrate law enforcement officers at the roadside to
identify impaired drivers passing through. Saturation patrols
involve an increased number of officers patrolling a limited area
where impaired driving is prevalent. Both use highly visible
elements (such as a concentration of law enforcement officers,
bright lights, signs, and marked patrol cars) to heighten their
visual impact. Enforcement efforts must be supported by an equal
amount of publicity and communications. Publicity regarding the
operations also raises awareness, and the perception of increased
likelihood of detection of impaired driving. Research has indicated
that HVE operations that are well-publicised, conducted frequently,
and have high visibility deter impaired driving. This book presents
case studies of HVE programs currently operating in the United
States and includes discussion of the HVE program's history,
enforcement strategies, visibility elements, operation, resources,
use of media, educational components, funding, support from
political leaders and the community, barriers encountered, and
strengths of the program. This book is intended to provide
information on impaired driving HVE programs for regional, state
and local agencies considering incorporating HVE strategies into
their efforts to curb impaired driving or to modify existing HVE
programs.

It may start with a chance meeting or a casual smile. It could
begin at work, on a blind date, or at the end of a relationship or
a marriage. Every year, 3.4 million Americans are stalked by former
partners, by co-workers, by strangers. Despite these epidemic
numbers, all too often victims' complaints continue to be ignored.
Meanwhile, both the stalking dynamic and the toll it takes continue
to be misunderstood. National journalist, bestselling writer and
stalking expert Linden Gross provides all the necessary tools
readers need to know to handle inappropriate obsessive attention.
Readers will discover how to control their natural reactions (which
often put victims at a disadvantage), how to stop feeding the
obsessive interaction that perpetuates stalking situations, and how
to protect their privacy and safety. Gross explains how these
dangerous obsessions begin, the patterns they take, how targets can
protect themselves, and what potential victims can do before the
nightmare becomes a reality. Knowledge is power. Armed with
information and perspective, stalking victims can make the
decisions and choose the course of action that makes sense for
them. If you're a victim, Surviving a Stalker will teach you: How
to recognize and control actions and reactions that put you at risk
How to handle inappropriate attention online and off How to protect
your privacy and safety as well as the privacy and safety of your
loved ones How to break the stalking cycle and regain control of
your life If you're a professional who deal with stalking, the
multitude of case studies in Surviving a Stalker will provide you
with a clearer understanding of the crime and the devastating
impact it has on its targets. In addition to profiling stalkers and
their victims, Surviving a Stalker delves deeper into the subject,
offering critical insights on how best to handle stalking while
also covering police and legal issues, behavioral and psychological
patterns that lead to an escalation of violence. The author was
aided in her research by the prominent Los Angeles security
advisor, Gavin de Becker, who wrote the book's foreword. De Becker,
author of the national bestseller The Gift of Fear, is widely
regarded as our nation's leading expert on stalking. His work has
earned him three Presidential appointments, as well as a position
on a congressional committee on stalking.
It was a rough couple of years for the NBA's Minneapolis Lakers.
But at least the 1959-60 season had a promising start. Team owner
Bob Short had drafted college standout Elgin Baylor the year before
and was rebuilding his team around this future superstar. Adding a
new coach in the form of Jim Pollard along with a dose of hometown
enthusiasm had fans looking up. The team even bought an airplane so
they could play teams further away in the newly expanding NBA. Then
something happened, completely out of anyone's control, that almost
changed everything. On January 17, 1960 after a game in St. Louis,
the Lakers boarded their DC-3 for the flight home. Perhaps the
memory of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper perishing
in an Iowa cornfield only 11 months earlier had faded. In any case,
this flight would be like no other. For the first time in print,
the co-pilot of that flight, Harold Gifford, tells the real, full
story of what happened that almost wiped out the Lakers before that
NBA dynasty even had a chance to really get started.
How safe is aspartame? Found in packets of NutraSweet(r) or
Equal(r) in most restaurants, the artificial sweetener is ingested
by an estimated 200 million worldwide. It is found in more than
6,000 consumables, including sodas, juices, candies, coffees, teas,
pharmaceuticals, vitamins, and dairy products. Concerned about the
health of family members drinking large quantities of diet soda,
author Victoria Inness-Brown took a remarkable step. She raised 108
rats, giving 60 of them NutraSweet-laced water for 2 1/2 years.
While the majority of her 48 controls stayed healthy, the
aspartame-drinking group suffered grossly observable tumors,
thinning fur, paralysis, and eye and skin disorders. Even more
shocking, this addictive additive, meant to curb weight, actually
caused weight gain in two of the rats The content of Are Your Diet
Sodas Killing You: Results from My Aspartame Experiment are
extracted from Inness-Brown's ground-breaking book: My Aspartame
Experiment: Report from a Private Citizen, where she discusses and
exhibits photos from her experiment that show the synthetic
sweetener to be harmful. An astonishing 20 out of 30, or 67%, of
her females on aspartame developed grossly observable tumors This
provocative work contradicts everything the FDA and aspartame
industry have been reporting regarding the safety of the sweetener.
Power packed with personal stories from aspartame sufferers and
supported by scientific research and painstaking documentation, My
Aspartame Experiment: Report from a Private Citizen targets the
scientific community. It provides full details about her protocol
and how it compares to those of aspartame industry safety studies;
a complete analysis of her rats' environment; exhaustive
references; a comprehensive index; and all steps of her
calculations. In comparison, Are Your Diet Sodas Killing You?
Results from My Aspartame Experiment is a slimmed down, more
affordable color version of Inness-Brown's report aimed at those
most interested in her photographic results. If you or anyone you
care about is addicted to aspartame, this book is for you.
According to Inness-Brown, we are the rats of the pharmaceutical
and chemical companies that liberally spread their synthetic
chemicals worldwide. No one fully understands the long-term
effects-especially the complex interactions from intermixing
thousands of toxic chemicals within the plant and animal kingdoms
