This fun baby book allows children to practice their foundational
literacy and hand-eye coordination skills while identifying the
shapes of various objects. The high-contrast illustrations are
thought to calm babies. These books will concentrate babies'
attention and provide hours of fun. Talking about the pictures
helps to familiarise babies with patterns of speech. Talking and
listening go together and help lay the foundations for language
development.
Babies will love this bright and bold high-contrast book, perfect
for sharing from birth. High-contrast colours are easy for very
little babies to focus on, and along with the fun textures to feel,
Splish Splash will engage and entertain babies as their eyesight
and senses develop. The friendly animal characters will guide you
through the book, and there are lots of extra sounds to make
(swish!) and fun things to spot. Splish Splash aids the development
of early coordination by encouraging babies to reach for and
explore the bumpy, smooth and shiny textures. Babies will react
with delight as they touch and feel the pictures of friendly sea
creatures, while the simple text prompts parent interaction. The
perfect first book to share with your baby! Also available: Moo
Peek-a-Boo, On the Move, Funny Faces, Animal Train, Bath Time

The scientific pedagogy of Maria Montessori informed a revolution
in education that continues today, 100 years later. Montessori
schools focus on hands-on learning with specifically designed
materials that allow students to understand the world through
methodical and self-directed work. According to Montessori, play is
work and the explorations of children are what ultimately lead to
learning and understanding. As with all things Montessori, students
begin with the concrete and move to the abstract. When learning
shapes, students first develop an understanding of the spatial
object, the comparison between shapes and a relevant application
for each shape before learning the names. Inspired by this process
and the associated classroom materials (trays of various shapes,
grouped by family), Montessori: Shape Work will offer readers
die-cut shapes to trace with their fingers, grouped by family for
comparison, and illustrated into a familiar object for relevancy.
Featured shapes: 3 triangles (equilateral, isosceles, right); 3
rounds (circle, oval, ellipse); 3 parallelograms (square,
rectangle, rhombus); 3 polygons (pentagon, hexagon, octagon).
Look for all the shapes that Dog discovers during his day. He gets
out of bed first thing in the morning - a bed that contains one
square blue cushion and one circular red cushion, both of them
equally comfortable. During a trip to the beach, Dog sees the
triangular white sails of the boats on the water. How many can you
spot? When his owner Vicky gets rid of the sand from his fur with a
purple oval brush, Dog's leg twitches and his tail wags with
pleasure! Later, he jumps over a wall of rectangular bricks while
following his friend Frog. Finally, it is time to return to bed,
where Dog falls asleep under the bright stars and crescent moon in
the night sky. With appealing images to look at and talk about,
this book is a wonderful aid to learning that little ones will want
to return to again and again. It is built to last, with sturdy
board pages that will stand up to repeated use.
Early readers will love discovering the animals hidden in this
book. Just turn each page to make the vibrant patterns come to
life! Perfect for developing early perception skills, stimulating
the imagination - and simply having fun!
