However, Amanda's parents don't approve of Dawson and their relationship is short-lived due to a number of unfortunate events outside of their control. Twenty years later, the pair are reunited at a mutual friend's funeral and it doesn't take long for their romance to rekindle. But although it seems the universe is conspiring to bring them back together after all this time, it seems there are still other forces at work which are determined to keep them apart...

One of the seminal American films of the 1970s, Roman Polanski's detective yarn sees murder and scandal emerge from the drought of 1930s Southern California. Private eye Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) is hired to follow water commissioner Hollis Mulwray (Darrell Zwerling), only to see him turn up dead at the bottom of a reservoir. Realising he has been used, Gittes confronts Mulwray's widow, Evelyn (Faye Dunaway), a woman who seems to have plenty of secrets of her own, not least her ambiguous relationship with her father, Noah Cross (John Huston).
Carlos Saura's exquisite Cria Cuervos...heralded a turning point in Spain: Shot while General Franco was on his deathbed, the film melds the personal and the political in a portrait of the legacy of fascism and its effects on a middle-class family (the title derives from the Spanish proverb: "Raise ravens and they'll peck out your eyes"). Ana Torrent(the dark-eyed beauty from The Spirit of the Beehive) portrays the disturbed eight-year-old Ana, living in Madrid with her two sisters and mourning the death of her mother, whom she conjures as a ghost (played by an ethereal Geraldine Chaplin). Seamlessly shifting between fantasy and reality, the film subtly evokes both the complex feelings of childhood and the struggles of a nation emerging from the shadows.
Live action feature based on the Bratz toys and TV cartoon series. The story centres on the tween-queen best friends, Jade (Janel Parish), Cloe (Skyler Shaye), Sasha (Logan Browning) and Yasmin (Nathalia Ramos) as they start high school together at Carry Nation High. Along the way, they have to navigate their way through the rigid clique system at the centre of high school politics, which threaten to break apart their friendship. The girls, of course, realise that nothing gets between true friends, not even scheming student-body president, Meredith Baxter (Chelsea Straub). The messages are 'shop till you drop', 'fashion is a passion', 'be faithful to yourself', 'be true to your friends' and 'guys are so cute'.
Sci-fi film noir filmed in a unique style in which real actors are transformed through motion-capture animation to create a black and white comic-strip style. Set in a near-future Paris, the film depicts the city as a menacing place dominated by the vast and all-seeing Avalon Corporation, which has insinuated itself into every aspect of modern life through its sales of the ultimate commodities: youth and beauty. When a beautiful young scientist, Ilona (Romola Garai) is kidnapped, police officer Barthélémy Karas (Daniel Craig) is assigned to solve the case. His investigation leads him down a deadly path, and he eventually discovers that events that took place back in 2006 have irrevocably affected the future of humankind with dire consequences.
Thought-provoking political documentary by Canadian filmmakers Jennifer Abbott and Mark Achbar. In the mid-19th century, American corporations began to be legally recognised as individuals, a move that has given them unprecedented rights. In collaboration with novelist Joel Bakan, the filmmakers pose the question: if a corporation was a person, what sort of person would it be? Applying psychiatric principles and social research, they come to the conclusion that this 'person' would be a power-hungry, egocentric and highly destructive psychopath. The film won Best Documentary World Cinema Audience Award at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

Lauded 1936 documentary, showing the various stages and procedures of the operation of the Royal Mail train delivery service, that remains one of the most instantly recognised films in British film history. It begins with a voiceover commentary describing how the mail is collected for transit. Then, as the train proceeds along the course of its journey, we are shown the various regional railway stations at which it collects and deposits its cargo. Inside the train the process of sorting takes place. As it nears its destination there is a sequence - the best known in the film - in which WH Auden's spoken verse and Benjamin Britten's music are combined over montage images of racing train wheels.
