THE ARRIVAL of Esteban Felix Granero Molina from Real Madrid represented yet another significant coup the R's.

The 25 year-old midfielder, who joined Madrid as an eight year-old, arrives at Loftus Road just months after helping Real win the La Liga title.

After coming through the ranks at the Santiago Bernabeu, Granero made the step up to Madrid's C squad at the age of 17, standing out for his talent and passing skills, and going on to receive the Numeros 1 Don Balon award as the 'Most Valuable Player' of the fourth division Group 7 in 2005/06.

Granero - who is also known as El Pirata (the pirate) in Spain owing to his outlandish hairstyle- spent the 2008/09 campaign on loan at Getafe - also based in Madrid - making 27 appearances and scoring three goals.

At the end of the season, which included a run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, Granero returned to Madrid.

However, Getafe came back in for the midfielder in July 2008, with Granero penning a permanent deal. Under the terms of the deal, Madrid agreed a re-buy option, which after making 35 appearances and scoring five goals in the 2008/09 season, was exercised in July 2009 in a deal reported to be worth four million euros.

Granero's first Madrid goal at senior level arrived in the opening game of the 2009/10 season away at Espanyol, and he went on to make 31 appearances in La Liga.

The arrivals of Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil in 2010 restricted his starts the following season, but Granero was still a valuable squad player, scoring a crucial goal from the bench in a 1-1 draw versus Almeria, as well as playing his part in their Copa del Rey triumph over Barcelona.

Last season, Granero played a vital role in the Madrid squad that clinched the La Liga title. He made 17 La Liga appearances, as Jose Mourinho's side saw off the threat of Barcelona to win their first league crown in four years.

John Michael Nchekwube Obinna, commonly known as Mikel John Obi, John Obi Mikel or John Mikel Obi, is a Nigerian footballer, who plays as a midfielder for English club Chelsea and the Nigeria national team.

Chelsea
2011-12 season
Before the start of their league campaign, Mikel's father was abducted in his native Nigeria on 10 August; despite this, Mikel started in the club's opening fixture against Stoke City at the Britannia. Mikel came close to claiming his first Premier League goal for Chelsea in an inspired game as the sides played out a 0-0 draw in new coach Andre Villas-Boas's first game in charge.

Due to Michael Essien's long term knee injury, Mikel found more playing time, but around Christmas time he lost his place to Chelsea's new signing Oriol Romeu. Following a run of disappointing fixtures including a catastrophic 3-1 loss to Napoli in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg and a 1-0 defeat to West Brom, Villas-Boas was sacked by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. In both of these matches Mikel was an unused substitute for The Blues. Following the appointment of former Chelsea midfielder Roberto di Matteo, Mikel appeared in 16 of the club's last 20 games and started in 14 of them, and began to play some of his best football for the club.

Mikel played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup final on 5 May 2012, picking up a yellow card in the 36th minute. The Premier League campaign saw Mikel appear in 22 league fixtures, starting 15 of them, as well as playing in eight fixtures leading up to the team's appearance in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

In the final in Munich on 19 May, Mikel played the full 120 minutes as the sides played out a 1-1 draw. Chelsea played a tough defensive battle and Mikel was hailed by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp as playing an excellent game putting in "in a performance that I didn't think he had in him; he was putting out fires everywhere," as Chelsea claimed a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout. Following his performance Mikel told reporters that it was "best night of our lives." Mikel's strong performances in the final stages of the season and his impressive display in Munich helped Chelsea secure Champions League football next season despite finishing in sixth place, knocking London rivals Tottenham Hotspur into the Europa League.

2012-13 season
Mikel started all of Chelsea's first five games of the new Premier League Season, and also played in the Community Shield against Manchester City and Super Cup against Atletico Madrid.

Sergio Ramos Garcia is a Spanish footballer who plays for Real Madrid and the Spain national football team. Mainly a central defender, he can perform equally as a right back.
After emerging through Sevilla's youth system, he went on to be a defensive mainstay for both Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, gaining his first cap at the age of 18.

Sergio Ramos was trained in Sevilla's youth system and made his first team debut at the age of 17 and under the tutelage of manager Joaquin Caparros. The Andalusian has always stood out for his grit, determination, and self-confidence and is well on track to becoming the most prolific Spanish defender of all time -UEFA named him Newcomer of the 2004/05 Liga-. Real Madrid saw Ramos as the perfect centre-back to fill the hole left by Fernando Hierro and signed him in 2005.

Since his arrival in the Spanish capital, Sergio has been an example of hard work, dedication, and potential. Once on the pitch, he showcases drive, leadership, excellent defensive skills, great speed, a powerful shot, and a phenomenal goal-scoring instinct. Ramos joined the Club as a centre-back but established himself as a right-back during the 2006/07 and 2007/08 campaign; his amazing versatility makes him a great asset for any coach.

Sergio Ramos is a key figure on the team, a leader and a captain. The defender from Seville is also a regular on the Spanish national team. At 19, he became the youngest man to make his debut with Spain in 55 years. He made history with Spain again by being in the second squad to win the European Championship in 2008 (Spain previously won the title in 1964) and by helping the team win its first ever World Cup trophy in South Africa 2010.

Ale Faurlin joined the Club in the summer of 2009 from Instituto de Cordoba and has since made his mark on the QPR faithful, becoming a pivotal player in our push for the Championship title two seasons ago, as well as our return to the Premier League last term. Faurlin was arguably one of the QPR's standout players of last season despite suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in January that signalled an abrupt end to his season.

After playing an impressive part in QPR's Championship-winning season of 2010/11, the Argentinean was, unsurprisingly, one of the first names on the team-sheet come the start of the following campaign. Inspired performances in Rangers' opening few games were instantly enhanced with an influx of new recruits following Tony Fernandes' takeover of the Club in August.

Undoubtedly one of the most technically-gifted players at QPR, Faurlin also showed a keen eye for goal, scoring at Wolverhampton Wanderers in September. His left-footed drive past Welsh international Wayne Hennessey helped the R's to a second away victory - and clean sheet - of the season.

Faurlin's performances then continued to go from strength to strength, with excellent displays against would-be Premier League champions Manchester City and Stoke City. His season, however, was cruelly cut short by that cruciate ligament injury picked up during Rangers' FA Cup third round fixture at MK Dons. Despite that, the cultured midfielder couldn't keep away from Loftus Road and was frequently spotted cheering on his team-mates for a difficult - but ultimately successful – run-in.

Jose Bosingwa da Silva, known as Bosingwa, is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, as a right defender.

An attacking fullback, his pace and ability to get up and down the flanks creates problems for the opposition. He spent most of his professional career with Porto and Chelsea.
A Portuguese international in the 2000s, Bosingwa represented the nation at Euro 2008.

Chelsea
On 19 June 2009, FC Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge conceded defeat in his club's attempt to sign Bosingwa, who remained at Stamford Bridge. He sustained a knee injury in October, being rendered unavailable for the rest of the season. The club announced in early March that he required further surgery, ruling him out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

On 24 April 2012, Bosingwa played a vital role in Chelsea's match against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals. He replaced injured Gary Cahill after only 12 minutes, and helped his side record a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou and a 3-2 aggregate win; for most of the match he had to play as centre-back, as John Terry was also sent off before half-time.

In his natural position, Bosingwa played the full 120 minutes in the Champions League final against FC Bayern Munich, as the Blues won 4-3 on penalties and became the first club from London to win the tournament. With Chelsea's back four being commended for their ability to keep the strong opposing offense at bay, Bosingwa himself received plaudits for his efforts against French winger Franck Ribery; Shortly after, however, along with teammates Drogba and Salomon Kalou, he was told he could leave once his contract expired the following month.

Queens Park Rangers
On 17 August 2012, Bosingwa signed a three-year deal with Queens Park Rangers. He scored his first goal for his new club on the 28th, netting against Walsall in a 3-0 home win in the season's Football League Cup.
In December 2012 Bosingwa was fined two weeks' wages, for refusing to sit on the bench for a league game against Fulham.

Portugal
Bosingwa's consistent performances at club level earned him his first call-up to the Portuguese national team in May 2007 for a UEFA Euro 2008 qualifier in Belgium. Bosingwa made 24 appearances for Portugal as first choice right back including all four matches at Euro 2004 in Austria and Switzerland.

Angel Fabian di Maria Hernandez is an Argentine footballer who currently plays as a winger for Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid and the Argentine national team. He is nicknamed El Angelito, Di Magia, El Flaco, El Pibito and Fideo, Spanish for noodle.

Real Madrid 2011-12 season
During the start of the 2011-2012 season, di Maria endured a tough series of matches as he struggled to adapt to the pace of the league following the summer break. As a result, di Maria's early performance for the season were mixed with moments of genuinely good play interspersed with moments of sheer madness by the Argentine. This point was well illustrated during Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Levante, a match which saw a clearly out of sorts di Maria commit a horror foul on Levante's Juanfran during the match. Di Maria caused the two teams to clash and an on-field incident ensued. After this, however, di Maria's performances improved, including opening up a significant gap at the top of the assists table. From October 2011, di Maria was being picked by Jose Mourinho ahead of Kaka and Mesut Ozil, a sign of his improving form.

On 27 November 2011, di Maria played 60 minutes in a league game against city rivals Atletico Madrid, in which he scored a goal for Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho's team won the game 4-1. On December 3, 2011, Di Maria scored Real's first goal from a sharp angle in a 0-3 defeat of Sporting de Gijon in the La Liga.

Playing style
Di Maria is renowned for his ability to assist goals from his left-wing position, assisting 20 goals in his first Real Madrid season alone. He is known as a quick player and a very good dribbler. In the national team he has occasionally taken on a more defensively responsible role. In the beginning of his European career, Di Maria was not famous for his goal scoring, but improved this aspect of his game, scoring six goals in his debut La Liga season.

Andrew Thomas "Andy" Carroll is an English footballer who plays for West Ham United, on loan from Liverpool, and the England national team as a striker.

Carroll started his professional career with Newcastle United in 2006, before spending a brief period on loan with Preston North End, during which time he scored his first league goal. He established himself as a regular in the Newcastle first team by 2008, and following Newcastle's relegation from the Premier League to the Championship in 2009, scored 17 goals in 39 appearances to help Newcastle finish first in the league, earning immediate promotion back to the Premier League in the process. He continued to play for Newcastle in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals in 19 appearances.

Carroll signed for Liverpool on the last day of the transfer window on 31 January 2011 for a fee of 35 million, which to date represents both Liverpool's most expensive ever signing, and the highest amount ever paid by one club to another for a British footballer.

Carroll was bought to replace Fernando Torres, who moved from Liverpool to Chelsea on the same day for a fee of 50 million, making Carroll the secondmost expensive player currently playing for a British club, behind Torres. An injury sustained in December delayed his Liverpool debut until March 2011, and he scored his first two goals for his new club in April 2011 in a 3-0 victory over Manchester City. In August 2012, Liverpool agreed a deal that would see Carroll spend a season-long loan at West Ham.
