The interest in piano and the desire to play, has increased
tremendously in the past few years. Especially is this noticeable
among adults who have either had some elementary piano instruction
in their youth or have been denied this study for various reasons.
This increased interest is partly due to the widespread influence
of radio. Hearing music almost daily has become an integral part of
our lives and it is this constant influence which has awakened a
keen and natural desire to become an active participant. it is to
the furtherance and stimulation of this natural desire that this
course was planned. The adult approach has been kept constantly in
mind, however not to the exclusion of certain basic principles
which are necessary in order to make rapid and satisfactory
progress. The logical and stepwise manner of progression in this
course should prove of inestimable aid to both the student and
teacher.
Music and arts education have a long-standing orientation of
seeking a practice where everyone interacts and communicates in,
and through artistic activities. However, an overspecialized and
professionalized stance in arts education diminishes the spirit of
playing music together, and leaves little room for creativity
during teaching and learning activities. In order to gain a richer
and deeper knowledge of music and the arts, interaction and the
meaning of creative and humanely kyosei interactions between and
among individuals, groups, and institutions must be emphasized.
Cases on Kyosei Practice in Music Education is an essential
reference source that discusses the meaning and significance of
music making as a human and social practice, as well as reflecting
creative inquiry into practical aspects of music and arts teaching.
Featuring research on topics such as multicultural music, community
music, and sociological perspectives, this book is ideally designed
for P-12 educators, pre-service and in-service teachers,
administrators, principles, music instructors, administrators,
caregivers, and researchers.
A comprehensive step-by-step course specifically designed to suit
the needs of all children beginning the piano. Includes: characters
and illustrations * writing exercises * sight reading drills *
review work * accompaniments * and more. Contains worksheets,
reading-aloud exercises and accompaniments for teacher or parent.
Originally published in 1924, this book is the result of many
years' quiet thought and observation in connection with the authors
own teaching. It focuses mainly on the essential skills of violin
playing, rather than on the peculiarities that all players adopt to
suit their own requirements. The book contains broad common-sense
views, preferring not to concentrate on any particular "school" or
"method." It is also written with some humour and in a very
colloquial style. Complete with detailed diagrams and photographic
plates. Contents Include: Part 1 - Explanation - Argument - Tone -
Advice to Beginners - The Left Side of the Body - The Right Side of
the Body, (The Bow Arm) - Left Hand Technique - Finger Action - The

Originally published in 1920, this neat little book is the result
of the authors desire to tabulate in a concise form, his own ideas
on violin playing, with regard to both the technical and the
interpretive aspects of the subject. The authors views are placed
before the reader in as clear a manner as possible. This little
work should prove valuable to a wide circle of violinists - both
amateur and professional. Many of the earliest books, particularly
those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce

Music performance anxiety has long frustrated the artistic
community and, while tricks and folk remedies abound, a
comprehensive plan to solve this problem has remained elusive.
Accomplished violinist Casey McGrath combines her experiences with
the research of Karin S. Hendricks and Tawnya D. Smith to provide a
resource guide to the most current solutions and therapies, as well
as educational applications, for both individual and classroom use.
Divided by area of therapeutic interest, Performance Anxiety
Strategies presents relevant and noteworthy research and insight
into some of the most popular and many lesser-known
therapies-including holistic, exposure, cognitive, behavioral, and
medicinal treatments. Each chapter also features self-guided
activities and exercises, words of wisdom from established
performing artists and athletes, and suggestions for music
teachers, as well as first-person narratives about the authors'
personal journeys with music performance anxiety both onstage and
in the classroom. Including a wealth of offerings and approaches,
this book is an invaluable resource for anyone who has ever
experienced performance anxiety, from the aspiring classical
musician to the garage band guitarist.
Designed for the Christian student, this course incorporates the
appealing music and activities from Alfred's All-in-One Course with
lyrics and illustrations that reflect spiritual and inspirational
themes. Students will be exposed to Christian values and principles
as well as Biblical lessons while learning basic musicianship
skills. This course is most effective when used under the direction
of a piano teacher or experienced musician.
Originally published in 1930, this little book is not an exposition
of the art of violin-playing, nor does it claim to teach a system
of technical study. The authors aim was to help students and less
experienced teachers through some of the more frequent problems
from which they will, almost inevitably, be faced. Many of the
earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and
before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
