A Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year pick for 2023! With the mystery of Maureen Johnson and Brittany Cavallaro and the historical intrigue of Romanov, this genre-bending YA will pull readers into one girl’s journey of discovering the impossible tale of a long-lost aunt—and through her, the importance of being true to yourself. It’s not every day you discover you might be related to Anastasia…or that the tragic princess actually survived her assassination attempt and has been living as the woman you know as Aunt Anna. For Jess Morgan, who is growing tired of living her life to please everyone else, discovering her late aunt’s diaries shows her she’s not the only one struggling to hide who she really is. But was her aunt truly a Romanov princess? Or is this some elaborate hoax? With the help of a supremely dorky but undeniably cute local college student named Evan, Jess digs into the century-old mystery. But soon Jess realizes there’s another, bigger truth waiting to be revealed: Jess Morgan. Because if she’s learned anything from Aunt Anna, it’s that only you can write your own story.
Inside the land of Miradel lies the Kingdom of Petroset, where a little boy tried to hide a horrible secret from everyone. Yet even as Tyson endures an unjust nightmare in the king's court, he is strangely comforted by the warm eyes of the king's daughter, Annaliessa. Tyson realizes that he and the beautiful girl share something in common- a father that never loved them. More than a decade later, Miradel is a land steeped in a witch's curse that binds Princess Annaliessa to five princes. Forced to choose one to marry even though she is not in love with any of them, Annaliessa knows she must produce an heir to the throne soon or be forever bound to her father's violent tendencies. As all five princes compete for her affection, Annaliessa secretly hopes for a miracle that will carry her away forever. When an earthquake strikes Petroset, Annaliessa thinks her wish is coming true as she escapes in the arms of her hero, Tyson, who saves her from certain death. Oblivious to what is happening around her, Annaliessa is about to become trapped in revenge's web of lies and betrayal. Is one man's love enough to save her from the scars revenge leaves behind? In this fantasy tale, temptation, sacrifice, and the power of unconditional love fuel a journey of self-discovery for a young woman who only wants one thing-true happiness.
'Uteless' is a coming of age story that follows Bran Kelleher and his friends from the age of 14 to 18. The story begins in New Zealand where Bran is a pupil at a famous boarding school with a reputation for producing top athletes. He's on course to become a junior All Black rugby player and even has his own ute (utility vehicle), a gift from his car-dealer dad. But when his mother falls ill and has to return to England, Bran's circumstances change dramatically. He finds himself living on his wits in another country. It doesn't help that he's assigned a place on the school bus in a row of seats called 'rehab' with three other so-called 'losers'. They include David, an obese and apparently lazy boy whose claim to fame is having 21 half-siblings thanks to his absent, loose-living, criminal father. There is Yasmin, of Iranian descent, immensely shy but formidably bright. Also a member of a single parent household is Bel (Belinda), a budding poet, who offers occasional commentary in verse. The teachers at Bran's new state school are divided about his character and abilities. Some jump to conclusions and constantly mark him for behaviour, not achievement. Others see a boy with potential struggling with a family background that is only gradually being revealed to him. The big question for Bran is how to navigate his way through the rest of his schooling. Will the values and work ethic he learned in New Zealand see him through relative poverty and social discrimination? Can he hold on to his earlier dreams of sporting prowess? Will the kids in 'rehab' be more of a hindrance than a help? What effect will this boy from a different culture have on their lives? Will he survive the family secrets that slowly emerge and re-shape his identity?

All magic comes at a price, but love was never part of the bargain . . . The look he was giving her. Serilda had never been looked at like that before . . . The intensity. The heat. The raw astonishment. He was going to kiss her. Cursed by the god of lies, a miller's daughter has developed a talent for storytelling - but are all of her tales as false as they appear? When one of Serilda's stories draws the attention of the devastating Erlking, she finds herself swept away into a world of enchantment, where ghouls prowl the earth, and ravens track her every move. The king locks Serilda in a castle dungeon and orders her to spin straw into gold, or be killed for lying. In despair, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious young man to her aid. And he agrees to help her, for a price. But love wasn't meant to be part of the bargain. A compulsive read, and as bewitchingly good as you'd expect from a YA bestselling author. You will stay up all night reading this. 'Gilded glitters as brightly as the stories and gold that Serilda and Gild spin.' Kate Corr (The Corr Sisters), authors of The Witch's Kiss trilogy and A Throne of Swans duology 'Forget spinning straw into gold, Meyer can spin words into magic and worlds into reality.'
