The I Ching or Yi J ng, also known as the Book of Changes, is one
of the oldest Chinese classic texts and is a compendium of ancient
cosmic principles and a divination text. The I Ching was at the
heart of early Chinese philosophical thought, serving as a common
ground for the Confucian and Taoist schools.
The 2,500 year old Yi-jing or I Ching, translated as the 'Book of
Changes', is an ancient Chinese work of divination and prophesy.
Dating from the 4th century BC, it is traditionally consulted by
performing complex routines of dropping bundles of dried grass
stalks. The particular patterns formed when six stalks are dropped
are represented by 64 symbols called hexagrams, which show every
possible combination of broken and unbroken stalks. The Book of
Changes tells how to interpret the hexagrams to decide which is the
best approach or action in a given situation. I Ching: The Ancient
Chinese Book of Changes features the 64 hexagrams and their
successive interpretations, including the Judgment, written by King
Wen in the 12th Century BCE, The Commentary and The Image (both
attributed to Confucius, 6-5th Century BCE), and The Lines, written
by King Wen's son. Accompanying The Lines are present-day
interpretative texts. Beautifully produced in traditional Chinese
binding and with a timeless design, this book will allow anyone
fascinated by the traditional philosophies of the East to follow in
the footsteps of Confucius and use the I Ching to predict their
destiny.
The Classic of Changes (Yi jing) is one of the most ancient texts
known to human civilization, always given pride of place in the
Chinese classical tradition. And yet the powerful fascination
exerted by the Classic of Changes has preserved the archaic text,
widely attracting readers with a continuing interest in trying to
understand it as a source of reflection and guide to ordinary
circumstances of human life. Its monumental influence over Chinese
thought makes the text an indispensable element in any informed
approach to Chinese culture.Accordingly, the book focuses on the
archaic core of the Classic of Changes and proposes a structural
anthropological analysis for two main reasons. First, unlike many
treatments of the Yi jing, there is a concern to place the text
carefully in the context of the ancient culture
The I Ching Oracle - A guide through the human maze is designed to
help the reader find a way through the complexities and challenges
of everyday life. Timothy and Johanna Dowdle show the reader how to
consult the I Ching oracle and receive clear answers to important
questions. They explain the methods used for consulting the oracle
and how the oracle responds to the reader's questions. The authors
also provide a series of examples from their own consultations to
illustrate how the I Ching has guided them through many difficult
situations. All of the descriptions of the I Ching hexagrams are
based on the authors' lives. These autobiographical narratives can
help and support everyone who is living through similar
experiences. For those who are familiar with the I Ching and have
been consulting the oracle, this book offers new methods for
interpreting hexagrams with multiple moving lines and static
hexagrams. These methods have proven to give consistently clear and
accurate answers to the authors' questions over many years of
consultations. Timothy and Johanna Dowdle are an Anglo-Dutch couple
who have lived and worked in many different countries and are
currently living in the Netherlands. Over the years the authors
have studied and practised the art of divination, using divination
as a tool for making important decisions. A red thread running
through their lives together has been The I Ching or Book of
Changes. Their aim is to share the knowledge and wisdom of the I
Ching and make it accessible to everyone.
In this beautiful package readers will find all they need to
consult the time-honoured I-Ching oracle to find love, understand
relationships and mend friendships. Based on the eight natural laws
(or energies) of the I-Ching - heaven, earth, water, thunder,
mountain, wind, lake and flame - this divination system offers
guidance and emotional insight into personal relationships. The
reader simply throws the three coins six times to create a hexagram
and consults the book to determine its meaning. Each of the
resulting 64 hexagrams can be equally read for platonic friendship,
an existing partnership or a new romance. With detailed
instructions on interpreting the hexagrams and consulting the
oracle, this book offers an easy way to rediscover the I-Ching's
ancient wisdom.

"An elegant and comprehensive critical edition of the Dao De Jing."
KIRKUS Review This book examines one of the world's most enduring
and influential literary works through the timeless art of qigong.
In his words, Lao Tzu (or Laozi), author of the Dao De Jing,
embodies qigong principles, advocating the cultivation of mind and
body. Only when we know qigong can we know Lao Tzu-and only when we
know Lao Tzu can we know the Dao De Jing. Lao Tzu's writing has
been read, translated, and discussed around the globe. It deals
with principles that transcend time and culture. That is why this
ancient text has been reimagined countless times in books on
business, relationships, and parenting-but never with a focus on
the art of qigong. This makes the Dao De Jing: A Qigong
Interpretation unique and indispensible. Many chapters in the Dao
De Jing purely talk about qigong, especially the practices of
regulating the body, breathing, mind, qi, and spirit. Dr. Yang, a
renowned author, scholar, and martial artist, devoted decades to
researching and writing this book. He interprets and analyzes the
81 chapters of the Dao De Jing. His commentary will bring new
insight, inspiration, and depth to your understanding of Lao Tzu's
words-and to your qigong practice. This book includes The complete
Dao De Jing in English and its original Chinese text Dr. Yang,
Jwing-Ming's commentary and analysis of each chapter Numerous
illustrations and diagrams The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation
is not a book of instruction. It is about the Way-the path before
us, in qigong and in life, where what you achieve comes through
your own understanding.
For more than 3,000 years, people have used the famous I Ching
oracle, otherwise known as the Book of Changes and it permeates
every aspect of Chinese culture, including Feng Shui, Taoism,
Buddhism, and Confucianism. Based on the divination of the Yin
(masculine) and Yang (feminine) through 64 six-line figures, these
hexagrams represent all possible changes in the universe and
mankind. The I Ching has influenced the lives of millions; and now
you, too, can be blessed by the dragon (Yin) and peacock (Yang)
symbolizing good luck. By simply turning eight interconnecting I
Ching wheels containing 8 hexagrams each, read the associated
meanings. Discover an understanding of your past, present, future,
ambitions, desires, hopes, dreams, strengths, and your question
outcomes. A center piece including eight special figures used in
Feng Shui gives you instant results in the Art of Placement.
Attaining the fortunes of the I Ching has never been easier.
The Mandate of Heaven was originally given to King Wen in the 11th
century BC. King Wen is credited with founding the Zhou dynasty
after he received the Mandate from Heaven to attack and overthrow
the Shang dynasty. King Wen is also credited with creating the
ancient oracle known as the Yijing or Book of Changes. This book
validates King Wen's association with the Changes. It uncovers in
the Changes a record of a total solar eclipse that was witnessed at
King Wen's capital of Feng by his son King Wu, shortly after King
Wen had died (before he had a chance to launch the full invasion).
The sense of this eclipse as an actual event has been overlooked
for three millennia. It provides an account of the events
surrounding the conquest of the Shang and founding of the Zhou
dynasty that has never been told. It shows how the earliest layer
of the Book of Changes (the Zhouyi) has preserved a hidden history
of the Conquest.

Heaven, The Classic of Changes or "I Ching," is one of the oldest
books in the world. In this revisioning of the "I Ching," retired
Jungian analyst Peggy Jones explores the processes of change and
balance as reflected in the hexagrams for the contemporary reader.
This book deals with harnessing the ancient powers of the oracle
for divination and interpretation, that is shown in over 150
photographs. It is an accessible guide to an ancient Chinese art,
offering a more harmonious approach to life, with an awareness and
a respect for the influences acting upon us. It provides
interpretations of the trigrams, giving spiritual guidance for all
kinds of questions and dilemmas. It features over 250 beautiful
photographs and specially commissioned illustrations accompany the
text, aiding interpretation of the I Ching. In its original form,
the I Ching was devised by the ancient shaman of China over 4,000
years ago. Developed by the legendary first emperor of China and
then the venerable philosopher Confucius, it evolved into a
sophisticated oracle that has bought wisdom and guidance to
generations in both the East and the West. The I Ching, or 'Book of
Changes', is believed to be a complex reflection of the natural
world. Each of the eight fundamental forces of nature - heaven,
earth, fire, water, thunder, wind, mountain and lake - are
represented by trigrams. These are matched together to make
hexagrams, and in a reading the hexagrams that you make as you
throw the symbolic coins will give you spiritual guidance to deal
with your question or dilemma. This book provides all you need to
call upon the wisdom of the Sage, and will help you to intuitively
find the right path to follow.
In a radically new translation and interpretation of the I Ching,
David Hinton strips this ancient Chinese masterwork of the usual
apparatus and discovers a deeply poetic and philosophical text.
Teasing out an elegant vision of the cosmos as ever-changing yet
harmonious, Hinton reveals the seed from which Chinese philosophy,
poetry, and painting grew. Although it was and is widely used for
divination, the I Ching is also a book of poetic philosophy, deeply
valued by artists and intellectuals, and Hinton's translation
restores it to its original lyrical form. Previous translations
have rendered the I Ching as a divination text full of arcane
language and extensive commentary. Though informative, these
versions rarely hint at the work's philosophical heart, let alone
its literary beauty. Here, Hinton translates only the original
stratum of the text, revealing a fully formed work of literature in
its own right. The result is full of wild imagery, fables,
aphorisms, and stories. Acclaimed for the eloquence of his many
translations of ancient Chinese poetry and philosophy, Hinton has
reinvented the I Ching as an exciting contemporary text at once
primal and postmodern.
The Yijing (I Ching) or "Book of Change" is one of the oldest of
the Chinese classic texts and has held a key place in the Daoist
tradition for thousands of years. Explaining the ancient Yijing
system of prediction based on the Xiang (symbolism) and Shu
(numerology) knowledge of Bagua (the eight basic trigrams), which
have not previously been written about outside China, this book
makes the Yijing accessible to the Western world in a new and
fuller way. In the space of eight days' teaching, Master Zhongxian
Wu leads the reader towards a deep understanding of the Eight
Trigrams of the Yijing and shows how to apply this knowledge in
practical ways in daily life. Master Wu explores the numerology and
symbolism of Yijing and clearly explains how the reader can use the
Yijing divination system for themselves. Many real life examples
show the system in action. This remarkable book provides a
user-friendly eight day program that will be a fascinating read for
anyone with an interest in learning more about the Yijing or
Chinese philosophy and culture as a whole, as well as those who
wish to learn how to use the Yijing for practical purposes.
