This innovative volume highlights the relevance of globalization
and the insights of gender studies and religious studies for
feminist theology. Beginning with a discussion of position of the
discipline at the turn of the twenty-first century, the handbook
seeks to present an inclusive account of feminist theology in the
early twenty-first century that acknowledges the reflection of
women on religion beyond the global North and its forms of
Christianity. Globalization is taken as the central theme, as the
foremost characteristic of the context in which we do feminist
theology today. The volume traces the impacts of globalization on
gender and religion in specific geographical contexts, describing
the implications for feminist theological thinking. A final section
explores the changing contents of the field, moving towards new
models of theology, distinct from both the structure and language
of traditional Christian systematic theology and the forms of
secular feminism. The handbook draws on material from several
religious traditions and every populated continent, with chapters

 This book is the first of two volumes that aim to produce something
not previously attempted: a synthetic history of Muslim responses
to the Bible, stretching from the rise of Islam to the present day.
It combines scholarship with a genuine narrative, so as to tell the
story of Muslim engagement with the Bible. Covering Sunni, Imami
Shi'i and Isma'ili perspectives, this study will offer a scholarly
overview of three areas of Muslim response, namely ideas of
corruption, use of the Biblical text, and abrogation of the text.
For each period of history, the important figures and dominant
trends, along with exceptions, are identified. The interplay
between using and criticising the Bible is explored, as well as how
the respective emphasis on these two approaches rises and falls in
different periods and locations. The study critically engages with
existing scholarship, scrutinizing received views on the subject,

Methodism. The literature describing the history and development of
Methodism has been growing as scholars and general readers have
become aware of its importance as a world church with approximately
40,000,000 members in 300 Methodist denominations in 140 nations.
The tercentenary celebrations of the births of its founders, John
and Charles Wesley, in 2003 and 2007 provided an additional focus
on the evolution of the movement which became a church. The book

 The Knowledge of God turns to consider the knowledge of God

 Reform Judaism has been tested by the spiritual torments and
ideological upheavals of the last two centuries. Now, "Reform
Judaism for the Rest of Us" brings into discussion key tenets and
opinions that shape current thinking within the faith and
introduces ideas for its future development. Author Alexander
Maller believes that the core message of Reform Judaism, a modern
faith inspired by the Jewish heritage and the Jewish and American
Enlightenment, is entering a new phase in its history. Free from the defunct extremist ideologies of the last
centuries, American Reform Judaism can expand its reach into the
new millennium if it strengthens its grassroots appeal to be of,

 The volume focuses on the relation between Cusanus and Aristotle or
the Aristotelian tradition. In recent years the attention on this
topic has partially increased, but overall the scholarship results
are still partial or provisional. The book thus aims at verifying
more systematically how Aristotle and Aristotelianism have been
received by Cusanus, in both their philosophical and theological
implications, and how he approached the Aristotelian thought. In
order to answer these questions, the papers are structured
according to the traditional Aristotelian sciences and their
reflection on Cusanus' thought. This allows to achieve some aspects
of interest and originality: 1) the book provides a general, but
systematic analysis of Aristotle's reception in Cusanus' thought,
with some coherent results. 2) Also, it explores how a philosopher
and theologian traditionally regarded as Neoplatonist approached
Aristotle and his tradition (including Thomas Aquinas), what he
accepted of it, what he rejected, and what he tried to overcome. 3)
Finally, the volume verifies the attitude of a relevant Christian

 Practical theology has outgrown its traditional pastoral paradigm.

and lived religion, within and beyond institutional communities,

shifting. The International Handbook of Practical Theology offers
insightful transcultural conceptions of religion and religious
matters gathered from various cultures and traditions of faith. The
first section presents 'concepts of religion'. Chapters have to do
with considerations of the conceptualizing of religion in the
fields of 'anthropology', 'community', 'family', 'institution',
'law', 'media', and 'politics' among others. The second section is
dedicated to case studies of 'religious practices' from the
perspective of their actors. The third section presents major
theoretical discourses that explore the globally significant
diversity and multiplicity of religion. Altogether, sixty-one
authors from different parts of the world encourage a rethinking of
religious practice in an expanded, transcultural, globalized, and
