"Suddenly the thought came into my mind: 'What if this be but
hallucination...' -from "The Arabian Nights in New York" The
philosophical discipline of theosophy enjoyed a flowering in the
late 19th century, a spiritual reaction to the materialism
aggressive scientific exploration and the newly ascendant corporate
culture seemed to be promoting. In 1910, Claude Bragdon published
this overview of the roots of theosophy, and it remains an
important document of this influential movement, key reading for
anyone interested in the origins and aims of early New Age thought.
Though known primarily as an architect and, later, as a stage
designer, Bragdon dabbled in mysticism, and brings his
well-deserved renown as a delightful, charming writer to this
little volume. Other works by Bragdon available from Cosimo
Classics: More Lives Than One, The Beautiful Necessity,
Architecture and Democracy, and A Primer of Higher Space (The
Fourth Dimension). American architect, stage designer, and writer
CLAUDE FAYETTE BRAGDON (1866-1946) helped found the Rochester
Architectural Club, in the city where he made his greatest mark as
a building designer with structures including Rochester Central
Station, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the First
Universalist Church; he also designed Peterborough Bridge in
Ontario. In later life, Bragdon worked on Broadway as scenic
designer for 1930s productions of Cyrano de Bergerac and Hamlet,
among others.

This volume is divided into five sections, the first a series of
articles introducing theosophical concepts which Judge wrote for
'Kate Field's Washington' under the title "Echoes from the Orient".
Sections 2-4 contain tracts and pamphlets issued by Judge including
his highly-esteemed "Epitome of Theosophy" as well as articles in
newspapers and journals other than those in the first two volumes,
and miscellanea (extracts, undated articles, etc.). The fifth and
largest section, comprising nearly half the volume, is devoted to
'Suggestions and Aids' issued to students of the Eastern School of
Theosophy, founded by H P B with Judge's assistance in 1888. These
papers deal with matters more directly pertinent to theosophists,
as well as with the core purposes of the Theosophical Society and
its founders, the Mahatmas. Whatever the subject, Judge's writing
is invariably down to earth, cutting right through rigid thinking
and the nonsense of pseudo-occultism. It is refreshing to read
clear, simply-worded sentences free of the misty sweetness and
light or clever but vague language that characterises much new-age
literature today. As straightforward as Judge is, his perspective
is clearly rooted in a larger philosophic background, oriented
towards universal brotherhood, innate human dignity, and the
inestimable worth of altruistic motive and service. Never
condescending, but always the Esotericist, a student/teacher with
whom we can easily relate, Judge transmits the perennial wisdom in
a way that encourages us to broaden our views and thus to see in
everyone and everything vibrant expressions of the divine force
permeating the universe.
The Author of this volume - an independent student, the result of
whose investigations extending over a period of many years is
embodied in this work - here outlines a system of esotericism
reminiscent in a marked degree of the Rosicrucian School. His
thesis revolves round the central problem of the mystery of birth
and death. Neither spiritualism, psychic research, nor theosophy by
themselves are sufficient, he contends, to explain this 'Fourth
Mystery', although the solution suggested by the author involves
the acknowledgment and appreciation of each in its degree. The
reader will find in this little book a distinctive and interesting
contribution to the literature of esotericism. In this text, C. G.
Harrison's concern is resurrection, whereas in his earlier and more
extensive work, The Transcendental Universe (of which the present
text forms a continuation), the central theme was reincarnation. Of
the earlier book, contemporary author on related topics and
director of Phanes Press, David Fideler, wrote: At sensitive
moments in time, spiritual impulses are released into the world of
human affairs. This work] casts an intriguing light on this
phenomenon, as seen through the eyes of a nineteenth-century
Christian occultist.
Whether you've been a Christian for 20 mninutes or 20 years, this
book will help you learn more about our magnificient God. The
ancient Athenians erected an altar for their unknown god. They
thought that God was far away and beyond knowing. How wrong they
were - but do we possess the same lack of understanding about who
God is and what He has done for us? Scripture declares, "He is not
far from each one of us" (Acts 17:27). Maybe if we would
personalize HIm, calling Him, "My God," as did the apostle Paul, we
could overcome this handicap. Packed with more than 1,100 scripture
references, this book will help you develop the deeper and more
personal relationship with God that you have always wanted.

Isis Unveiled is a master key to the mysteries of ancient and
modern science and theology. With the help of this book you will be
able to make sense of how so many of the world's peaceful and
beautiful religions have been changed by those in charge of said
religions. H. P. Blavatsky's knowledge of religious minutia is
immense and her assertions will challenge the way you look at the
world. She slices through one religious agenda after another in
search of truth. No religion is safe and no beliefs go
unchallenged. Now you can have both volumes of this esoteric
masterpiece in one binding.
