Geometry with Trigonometry Second Edition is a second course in plane Euclidean geometry, second in the sense that many of its basic concepts will have been dealt with at school, less precisely. It gets underway with a large section of pure geometry in Chapters 2 to 5 inclusive, in which many familiar results are efficiently proved, although the logical frame work is not traditional. In Chapter 6 there is a convenient introduction of coordinate geometry in which the only use of angles is to handle the perpendicularity or parallelism of lines. Cartesian equations and parametric equations of a line are developed and there are several applications. In Chapter 7 basic properties of circles are developed, the mid-line of an angle-support, and sensed distances. In the short Chaper 8 there is a treatment of translations, axial symmetries and more generally isometries. In Chapter 9 trigonometry is dealt with in an original way which e.g. allows concepts such as clockwise and anticlockwise to be handled in a way which is not purely visual. By the stage of Chapter 9 we have a context in which calculus can be developed. In Chapter 10 the use of complex numbers as coordinates is introduced and the great conveniences this notation allows are systematically exploited. Many and varied topics are dealt with , including sensed angles, sensed area of a triangle, angles between lines as opposed to angles between co-initial half-lines (duo-angles). In Chapter 11 various convenient methods of proving geometrical results are established, position vectors, areal coordinates, an original concept mobile coordinates. In Chapter 12 trigonometric functions in the context of calculus are treated. New to this edition: The second edition has been comprehensively revised over three years Errors have been corrected and some proofs marginally improved The substantial difference is that Chapter 11 has been significantly extended, particularly the role of mobile coordinates, and a more thorough account of the material is given

Clear explanations, an uncluttered and appealing layout, and examples and exercises featuring a variety of real-life applications have made this book popular among students year after year. This latest edition of Swokowski and Cole's ALGEBRA AND TRIGONOMETRY WITH ANALYTIC GEOMETRY retains these features. The problems have been consistently praised for being at just the right level for precalculus students. The book also provides calculator examples, including specific keystrokes that show how to use various graphing calculators to solve problems more quickly. Perhaps most important--this book effectively prepares readers for further courses in mathematics.

R2,118 Discovery Miles 21 180 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Beecher, Penna, and Bittinger's Algebra and Trigonometry is known for enabling students to "see the math" through its focus on visualization and early introduction to functions. With the Fourth Edition, the authors continue to innovate by incorporating more ongoing review to help students develop their understanding and study effectively. Mid-chapter Mixed Review exercise sets have been added to give students practice in synthesizing the concepts, and new Study Guide summaries provide built-in tools to help them prepare for tests. MyMathLab has been expanded so that the online content is even more integrated with the text's approach, with the addition of Vocabulary, Synthesis, and Mid-chapter Mixed Review exercises from the text, as well as example-based videos created by the authors.

Margaret Lial, John Hornsby, David Schneider, Callie Daniels
R2,102 Discovery Miles 21 020 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Trigonometry, Tenth Edition, by Lial, Hornsby, Schneider, and Daniels, engages and supports students in the learning process by developing both the conceptual understanding and the analytical skills necessary for success in mathematics. With the Tenth Edition, the authors recognize that students are learning in new ways, and that the classroom is evolving. The Lial team is now offering a new suite of resources to support today's instructors and students. New co-author Callie Daniels has experience in all classroom types including traditional, hybrid and online courses, which has driven the new MyMathLab features. For example, MyNotes provide structure for student note-taking, and Interactive Chapter Summaries allow students to quiz themselves in interactive examples on key vocabulary, symbols and concepts. Daniels' experience, coupled with the long-time successful approach of the Lial series, has helped to more tightly integrate the text with online learning than ever before.

Learning Trigonometry By Problem Solving (Hardcover): Alexander Rozenblyum, Leonid Rozenblyum Learning Trigonometry By Problem Solving (Hardcover)
Alexander Rozenblyum, Leonid Rozenblyum
R1,720 Discovery Miles 17 200 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In this book, trigonometry is presented mainly through the solution of specific problems. The problems are meant to help the reader consolidate their knowledge of the subject. In addition, they serve to motivate and provide context for the concepts, definitions, and results as they are presented. In this way, it enables a more active mastery of the subject, directly linking the results of the theory with their applications. Some historical notes are also embedded in selected chapters. The problems in the book are selected from a variety of disciplines, such as physics, medicine, architecture, and so on. They include solving triangles, trigonometric equations, and their applications. Taken together, the problems cover the entirety of material contained in a standard trigonometry course which is studied in high school and college. We have also added some interesting, in our opinion, entertainment problems. To solve them, no special knowledge is required. While they are not directly related to the subject of the book, they reflect its spirit and contribute to a more lighthearted reading of the material.

Generalized Trigonometric and Hyperbolic Functions (Hardcover): Ronald E. Mickens Generalized Trigonometric and Hyperbolic Functions (Hardcover)
Ronald E. Mickens
R4,628 Discovery Miles 46 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Generalized Trigonometric and Hyperbolic Functions highlights, to those in the area of generalized trigonometric functions, an alternative path to the creation and analysis of these classes of functions. Previous efforts have started with integral representations for the inverse generalized sine functions, followed by the construction of the associated cosine functions, and from this, various properties of the generalized trigonometric functions are derived. However, the results contained in this book are based on the application of both geometrical phase space and dynamical systems methodologies. Features Clear, direct construction of a new set of generalized trigonometric and hyperbolic functions Presentation of why x2+y2 = 1, and related expressions, may be interpreted in three distinct ways All the constructions, proofs, and derivations can be readily followed and understood by students, researchers, and professionals in the natural and mathematical sciences
