The seventeenth edition of Accounting Standards introduces students to the principles of the International Financial Reporting Standards. Changes brought about by new and revised standards have once again been incorporated in this latest edition, mainly relating to the new IFRS 16 on leases. The accounting principles are illustrated through questions that gradually increase in their degree of difficulty. This approach facilitates the students’ understanding of these principles and allows them to get to grips with financial statements in a practical manner. This edition of Accounting Standards is intended to satisfy the students’ requirements while at the same time reducing the lecturers’ workload.

Practical Theology is a growing discipline in its own right, and the latest thinking in practical theology; of how to use theological learning in practical situations, is fully explored in this new edition of an established textbook. They also take the reader through the actual process of developing and carrying out a research project using the author's own research as case study examples. Previous case studies include: the rise in spirituality; the decline in church attendance, evidence-based medicine compared to needs-led assessments, the growth in chaplaincy and how it is understood as separate from parish ministry. The aim of this book is to equip any person working in an office environment with the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes to communicate effectively in the administrative and office environment. To ensure effective communication, it is necessary to have a basic knowledge of communication and this text will enable one to: understand the importance of good communication in an office environment, as well as the elements of the communication process (verbally and written communication); compile business letters, memoranda and reports; use different forms of electronic communication in the office; and organise all aspects of a meeting and take the minutes.
This text aims to differentiate itself from other business statistics texts in two important ways. It seeks: to present the material in a non-technical manner to make it easier for a student with limited mathematical background to grasp the subject matter; and to develop an intuitive understanding of the techniques by framing them in the context of a management question, giving layman-type explanations of methods, using illustrative business examples and focusing on the management interpretations of the statistical findings. This further edition continues the theme of using Excel as a computational tool to perform statistical analysis. While all statistical functions have been adjusted to the Excel (2013) format, the statistical output remains unchanged. Using Excel to perform the statistical analysis in this text allows a student: To examine more realistic business problems with larger datasets; To focus more on the statistical interpretation of the statistical findings; and to transfer this skill of performing statistical analysis more easily to the work environment. Its overall purpose is to develop a management student's statistical reasoning and statistical decision-making skills to give him or her a competitive advantage in the workplace.
People and their effective management are key to sustainable organisations. The authors of Human resource management, now in its fourth edition, combine their respective experience from both academia and the workplace to provide a balanced and useful book that covers the key principles for the effective management of people. The book has a sound theoretical base, which includes a wide range of topics from areas such as the human resource management function, strategic human resource management, organisational behaviour, leadership, labour legislation and labour relations. Furthermore, there are self-awareness exercises to assist readers in applying theory to their own insight. For those wanting to test their knowledge, each chapter contains multiple-choice questions. The five case studies at the end of the book create a further opportunity for readers to develop their ability to practically manage people. As with previous editions, the book has been written and designed in a user-friendly style and format and it available with a slideshow for each chapter.

The main change from the second edition is the addition of a full chapter on research ethics and attention is given to establishing its principles. Chapters relating to data analysis have been slightly revamped to make it easier for the reader to understand the key concepts. Finally, changes and updates have been made to examples, questions and case studies at the end of each chapter, to make them more relevant to current research practices.

Everyone has the right to education. The main objective of any education system in a democratic society is to provide quality education for all learners so that they will be able to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to and participate in that society throughout their lives. With the publication of the Education White Paper 6 in 2001, South Africa proclaimed its policy of inclusive education; however, this policy is not always clearly understood by educators. Addressing barriers to learning provides relevant and in-depth knowledge to prepare educators better to teach all the learners in their class groups. Addressing barriers to learning covers the complete continuum of barriers to learning as reflected in the Education White Paper 6, including the most vulnerable of them: those who are economically and educationally disadvantaged; those with physical, sensory, intellectual, and/or learning impairment; and those displaying challenging behaviour who are at risk of exclusion. Case studies offer practical examples and activities provide opportunities for hands-on experience with classroom practice and management, collaboration with all role players and mobilisation of community involvement, which is at the heart of true inclusion. Addressing barriers to learning is aimed at both prospective and current educators and other support professionals, including psychologists and therapists. The three editors, Emmerentia Landsberg, Deirdre Kruger and Estelle Swart, are acknowledged and experienced academics and practitioners in the field of inclusive education and accommodating diversity in inclusive classrooms. |
