The twenty-first Yeats International Summer School was held in
Sligo in 1980, and the Yeats Society, wishing to mark the school's
coming of age, asked Professor A. Norman Jeffares to edit a volume
of essays specially com missioned for the occasion. These essays
are by Directors of the school and scholars who have lectured at
it. These essays show the breadth of Yeats studies, indicating
eloquently the tremendous hold that Yeats exerts on scholar and
general reader alike, stressing that he is the greatest poet
Ireland and the twentieth century have produced.
