This is the fifth book in the series of photographs of British
combat aircraft of the 1970s and 1980s and covers the RAF
helicopters in service during those two decades and their part in
the latter stages of the Cold War. The Westland Whirlwind was used
in the air-sea rescue (ASR) role before being replaced by the
Westland Sea King, both aircraft being prominent around the British
coastline with their bright yellow colouring. The Westland Wessex
was used by the RAF in a variety of roles including search and
rescue. The A rospatiale Puma was introduced to service with the
RAF in 1968 and is still being flown today while the Boeing Chinook
came into service in 1981, just in time to take part in the
Falklands War, and is still in service today. Containing 180
photographs, this book is a pictorial compendium of these iconic
machines.
