The author looks at the formation of the Tory or Loyalist party in
the American Revolution, its persecution, the banishment (or death)
of over 100,000 of these most conservative and respectable
Americans, and the consequences of their banishment. In numbers,
historically it is only comparable to the fates of the Moors of
Spain and the Huguenots of France. This was the first book by the
famous historian Claude Halstead van Tyne (1869-1930), who was a
Michigan and Pennsylvania professor and author who wrote
extensively on the American Revolution.
