Les Pugh is well known in the Stroud area for his absorbing
memories that have appeared over the years in the Stroud News &
Journal. Recalling life from the early 1900s, these columns have
now been collated into this fascinating book giving a glimpse of a
life few now remember. Ninety-three-year-old Les vividly recollects
his childhood, particularly his schooldays at Eastington C of E
School before he moved on to Marling Grammar School in Stroud.
After leaving school he worked at R.A. Lister in Dursley for
forty-nine years and recounts his fellow workers with admiration
and kindness. Included are fond memories of his marriage to
childhood sweetheart Peggy, their life together with daughter,
Rosemary, and the hardship and community spirit of the war years.
