This volume is the second in the series presenting the histories of
the divisions of the American Psychological Association in
celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the division
structure. The division structure of APA has been a critical
element in its, and psychology's, success - and this series is
devoted to exploring the unique contributions and history of each.
Each chapter in this second volume describes the events behind the
foundation of a division and its subsequent history. The histories
of Divisions 9, 12, 13, 14, 26, 28, 29, 35, 38 and 43 are
presented. These histories go beyond mere chronological
presentations of fact to give a behind-the-scenes look into
defining events of a division's history and the dedicated
individuals who shaped them. Chapters cover such areas as the
overall philosophy and approach of the division, membership
parameters over time, programme presentations at annual
conventions, and controversies. From these engaging accounts emerge
a picture of how the divisions have shaped, and have been shaped
by, the larger events and controversies within psychology. This
book should be of interest to division and APA members and
students.
