E. and H. Heron were the pen names of Hesketh Pritchard and his
mother Kate. Their Flaxman Low stories were first published in
1899, and have been reprinted a number of times since. Flaxman Low
himself is a psychic detective in the mould of Sherlock Holmes. He
investigates psychic mysteries using his immense knowledge of
supernatural phenomena and powers of observation. The tales have a
dark and macabre mood. Do not read these stories before bed if you
