material known at the present time in a unified manner. Topics
discussed include: applications of Birkhoff interpolation to
approximation theory, quadrature formulas, and Chebyshev systems;
lacunary interpolation at special knots; and an introduction to the
theory of Birkhoff interpolation by splines.
