Anhand der Symbolphilosophie Ernst Cassirers und anderer Ansatze zeigt er, dass wissenschaftliche Subjektbeschreibungen auf zwei Ebenen kontextuell sind: Sowohl das Subjekt - als Gegenstand der Forschung - als auch die neurowissenschaftliche Theoriebildung sind in einen kultur-historischen Kontext eingebettet. In der vorliegenden Schrift werden die Notwendigkeit eines ausgleichenden Dialogs zwischen Philosophie und Neurowissenschaften sowie die Kontextualitat herausgearbeitet.
