Splines are the fundamental tools for fitting curves and surfaces
in computer-aided design and computer graphics. This volume
presents a practical introduction to computing spline functions and
takes the elementary and directly available approach of using
explicit and easily evaluated forms of the spline interpolants.
Spath outlines the conditions under which splines can be best
applied and integrates into his presentation numerous formulas and
algorithms to emphasize his concepts. He also includes FORTRAN-77
subroutines which can be applied to the abundant problems
illustrated and treated in the book which in turn allows the reader
to assess the performance of various spline interpolants based on
the configuration of the data. A program disc is available to
supplement the text and there is also a companion volume, One
Dimensional Spline Interpolation Algorithms.
