Incorporating exciting new material that has come to light since
the last German edition of 1980, Herwig Wolfram places Gothic
history within its proper context of late Roman society and
institutions. He demonstrates that the barbarian world of the Goths
was both a creation of and an essential element of the late Roman
Empire.

This is a fantastic and comprehensive volume containing all fragments and information we have about the history of the Goths .
My only criticism would be that the author ends his discussion about the Visigoths and the Ostrogoths too soon. The Visigoths he ends with their defeat by the Franks in 507. However, they continued to survive in Spain for more than 200 years until the eventual takeover by the Muslim Umayyad empire in 718. The Ostrogoths he do end with their final defeat by the Byzantines in 552, but then he just ends. I suppose I just wanted an aftermath of both groups.
It must also be noted that it is a revised version from the original 1979 German publication, but there are still quite a few points (especially in the pre-history) that today may be considered outdated.
Having said that, it was still a fantastic read that still ties the Gothic history neatly together.
